You'll be treated to views across Westonbirt Arboretum, best enjoyed in the sunny garden or from the cottage's panoramic window seat. Perfect for a multi-generational family stay, alongside two double bedrooms, there's a single bedroom that's ideal for a child or single grandparent. It's worth noting a home of this heritage does have its quirks. Expect steep staircases, low beams in places and a compact kitchen. But that's all part and parcel of characterful cottage living.

Escape to the Cotswolds with this converted coach house dating back to 1865. It has an idyllic setting surrounded by communal lawns and countryside views. Located in the village of Chalford in the Frome Valley, this Cotswold stone cottage is just over 4 miles from the market town of Stroud. It’s perfectly situated for exploring the Cotswolds AONB and the nearby trails for walking, hiking or cycling. Sitting in the grounds of the owner's home, a wisteria frames the front door and there’s a warm welcome as soon as you enter from the cosy lounge with its wood-burning stove. Step outside and there’s a lawned garden and decking area, where you can soak up the peaceful surroundings and enjoy alfresco dining. This place is a home away from home.

The Chalford Cottage

Planning a special event? Consider this grand mansion house, whose nine bedrooms - plus special highlights like juke box, maze, large terrace and extensive parklands - make it quite the place for a gathering of family or friends. The grade II-listed Regency building has no less than five indoor living spaces including a banquet-worthy dining room, which seats up to 20, a library packed with books, and sitting room with open fire and plenty of overstuffed chairs and sofas. The surroundings are impressive, part of the 28-acre Matara Estate, where rewilding projects and formal gardens have been in progress for the past 20 years. A private tour can be arranged – just ask the caretaker on your arrival. If you can manage your way out of all that (or even want to) you’ll find yourself in a charming part of the Cotswolds - with Stroud, Tetbury and Westonbirt’s National Arbotoreum nearby and Jane Austen’s beloved Bath just a 35-minute drive away.

As well as having Tetbury’s antique shops and cafes on your doorstep, you’ll also be within easy reach of Westonbirt Arboretum, Gatcombe Park, and Malmesbury. 

Quaint Courtyard Cottage

Seemingly plucked straight from a fairytale, this secluded, idyllic thatched cottage, originally built in 1624, makes a romantic nesting place for couples looking for a rural escape. Cosy up on the velvet sofas by the wood-burning stove and relish in the home's comforting character. We love the stunning countryside views from the large garden – we can imagine sitting here on warm summer days with a glass of wine in hand. Another favourite of ours is the gorgeous bedroom with its characterful beams, chandelier and free-standing bath, the perfect place for a soak after a long countryside walk. There are several gastro pubs within a ten-minute drive, or if you fancy exploring further afield, Cirencester and Tetbury are under fifteen minutes in the car. Alternatively, marvel at over two thousand different species of trees at the stunning Westonbirt Arboretum, just over a twenty-minute ride.

Nestled within a 19th Century water mill, this home is a great option for those seeking a cosy getaway in the heart of historic Malmesbury. From here, you can enjoy riverside walks as well as easy access to nearby restaurants, shops and cafes. Private parking is included and two well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you during your stay. It’s worth noting there is no garden here, but you will have a sweet little balcony and plenty of lounging space across the living room and bedrooms. Children’s amenities can be provided, plus your host is on hand to help organise extras like food boxes and local experiences.

When you want to explore, the town of Stroud is around 3 miles away with its farmers’ market and museum, while the local village pub is just over a mile.

Escape to the heart of the Cotswolds at this charming home. It’s located just above Stroud and boasts wonderful countryside views, particularly from the dreamy main bedroom. The cosy sitting room looks across the front garden – a marvellous spot for an alfresco breakfast – and can be merged with the attractive kitchen and dining space.
