This is elegant, country living at its very best. Set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, this charming cottage is just a five-minute drive from the pretty village of Burley with its quirky shops, pubs, and tea houses and a twenty-minute drive to the coast. Inside this home, a wash of soothing sage and neutral tones blends with slate flooring and quality furniture to create a house full of character and style. Fully kitted out with families in mind, the hosts have thought of every last detail. There's a playroom brimming with toys and books to keep the kids amused, and they'll love the bunk beds upstairs in the light-filled bedrooms. For the adults, a slipper bath is waiting to unwind in, and there's a wood-burning fire for curling up beside in the evenings. The welcome basket is impressive, too – with a cheeky bottle of wine ready to enjoy once little ones are tucked up in bed. Outside at the bottom of the charming garden, there's a gate leading you into the woods with a babbling brook for splashing about with fishing nets. You may even spot wild ponies trotting by. Could anything sound more idyllic? We don't think so.

But should you crave a change of pace, the charming village of Burley, with its cosy pubs and cafes, is just a mile’s stroll away. Back home, there are all the cottage-core essentials, including a wood-burning stove for winter nights and a fire pit and barbecue out on the private terrace for summer evenings. Wisteria House is a beautiful and fully restored farmhouse, neatly tucked into the New Forest National Park. Located just a short walk from the historic town of Lymington in Hampshire, be sure to browse through the charming shops, go for long walks and visit the country pubs of the area. Back at your cosy home, guests have access to the leisure facilities, such as the outdoor pool, hot tub, summer house and table tennis, barbecue area and even a small gym. But all of that is small in comparison to the charming interiors that make Wisteria House so special. Get comfortable in front of the fire, prepare wonderful dishes in the country kitchen, and sleep well in the chic bedrooms.

This cosy cabin is the perfect little bolthole for couples wanting to escape to the country. The location right at the heart of the New Forest means you’ll feel miles away from the stresses of daily life – as you fly down country lanes on your bike, you’ll feel your worries melting away. 

The cabin is just outside of Brockenhurst, in an area that feels secluded but isn’t too far from the nearest shops. You can stroll to the pub in fifteen minutes, which is a welcome sight after a day spent hiking the trails. A four-minute drive will get you to beautiful Beaulieu, which is well worth an afternoon strolling around after lunch in a cafe. The abbey is just six minutes from the cabin – the tranquil ruins are always popular with history buffs. 

If you need an ice cream on the beach for it to feel like a holiday, you’re in luck. Fifteen minutes by car will have you on a sandy shore, though we can’t guarantee it’ll be paddling weather. 

For us, the real joy of this cabin is its countryside setting. Walking just five minutes from the front door will see you on walking and cycling trails. When your feet start to feel sore, head back to the cabin to soak in the luxurious claw-foot tub before spending the evening in front of the fire. Absolute bliss.

Perched right in the heart of the Georgian market town of Lymington, the New Forest and coast are both less than a ten-minute drive. And Solent's quayside is even closer –⁠ a six-minute stroll, to be precise.

Inside, every corner of this luxurious home feels like an interior magazine come to life. Oil paintings and antique pieces bring a touch of heritage, while pops of blue accents unify the space and remind us that the Solent is never far away. 

In winter months, curl up beside the crackling fire in the first-floor drawing room –⁠ that chesterfield sofa has your name all over it. Then gather your ensemble in the elegant dining room with a blazing hearth at its heart to host a glamourous dinner party. Everything you need to flex your culinary muscles is in the made-for-action kitchen, and the Sonos speakers will set the ambience. 

On long summer evenings, grab a glass of something chilled and head out through the arched doors into the stunning courtyard garden. Blissfully quiet, it feels like your very own private oasis.

And when it's finally time to bank some beauty sleep, one big hug of a bed awaits upstairs in the three serene bedrooms. Spread out over two floors and offering super king-sized beds decked out in luxurious linens, there's no need to tussle for the best room here. Each room is as beautiful as the next.

This building was once a brickworks, but has since been transformed into a cosy getaway in the New Forest National Park. There's plenty of traditional charm to be found here, from the towering chimneys and beamed ceilings, to the antique furniture and oil paintings on the walls. It has large sitting room and dining area, perfect for parties of family and friends to spend time together over lively brunches and long, indulgent dinners. Outside you'll find a lush garden with green lawns for picnicking and a terrace where you can unwind in the tranquil Hampshire countryside. If you're visiting during the summer months, a yurt is available to fit in even more guests. The peaceful Beaulieu River is right on your doorstep, where you can do some wild swimming or even take a boat taxi downstream. If you find yourself wanting some more action, you can hike, cycle or even kayak through the national park, before stopping off at one of the traditional local pubs for some hearty local fare.

The kitchen boasts all the mod cons you could wish for and blue cabinetry – a colour scheme that’s carried throughout this cottage with distinctive touches that give a nod to your proximity to the coast. For nights in, you can rustle up a delicious home-cooked meals and in the summer months, pour yourself a glass of wine and settle down on the terrace to enjoy your dinner alfresco. 

For days out you’re perfectly placed to wander the High Street's shops, explore the old town quay or even hop on the ferry to head over to the Isle of Wight. With so much to do and your cottage waiting to welcome you home, you’ll enjoy a memorable stay.

A five-minute walk from Brook’s rugged coastal path and golden beach, the fresh sea air is never far from this isolated cottage. In a huge old farmhouse-style building, your quarters have tons of countryside character. Timber beams support the high vaulted ceilings, warm wooden flooring can be found throughout, and original, rustic barn-like doors keep things traditional. That said, every modern convenience is available, although some have a vintage edge like the red Smeg fridge. Leisure certainly hasn’t been forgotten about either, with board games and an outdoor play area to keep the whole family entertained. While the little ones romp in the garden, relax on the patio with a pot of tea. And when dinnertime strikes, you can light up the barbecue to dine alfresco on a balmy summer evening. As the home is located in the Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (one of only forty-six such spots in the UK), the prized landscape is exceptional for walking, fossil hunting, and windsurfing. But if you do fancy something a little more urban, the island’s main town of Cowes is just a twenty-five-minute drive.

Bedrooms are cosy and relaxing, and we love the double doors that open out into the garden from the master bedroom. Outside, make use of the barbecue in your enclosed garden, or take the kids to the communal play area. With a fort, swings and a sunken trampoline, it's bound to be a hit. Walk to some of the area's best beaches from your doorstep, stroll to the local pub and head off on all sorts of adventures around the island by car.

Sitting on the edge of the New Forest National Park, this Grade II listed cottage makes a great base for exploring Hampshire. The local village pub and amenities are a short stroll away, while the beaches of Milford on Sea and Highcliff are within easy driving distance. Guests can enjoy access to the owner’s swimming pool and there is a terrace with outdoor seating. It’s worth noting the decor and furnishings are a little dated, but you will find plenty of space to stretch out and socialise.

This charming 18th-century coastal cottage is the perfect retreat for a couple looking to explore the stunning Dorset coastline. With beamed ceilings and an original feature fireplace, it’s full of character and warmth. Set in the heart of Stanpit village, you’re just a short stroll from Christchurch, Mudeford, and Avon beaches, as well as Stanpit Marsh. Bournemouth, Sandbanks, and the Jurassic Coast are just a short drive away. After a day of exploring, relax with a BBQ in the sunlit garden. It’s not the most luxurious, but its cosy charm and ideal location make it a great base for nature and beach lovers.

Whether you're into coastal strolls, woodland wanders, or a bit of both, you'll be well-placed to explore. Back home, the modern design is bright and breezy. The kitchen is ideal for whipping up family dinners – in the summer, you can enjoy them on the small patio. Upstairs, three comfortable bedrooms await, including a bunk bed for little ones. You're also welcome to bring one well-behaved pet for an additional fee.

This Grade-II listed home's white exterior and large bay windows make this address stand out from its neighbours and it all looks rather palatial, we must say. This impression continues when you head inside and spot the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, the ornamental fireplaces and the lacquer dining table. The kitchen is rather more rustic in appearance, with exposed brickwork working nicely alongside the skylight constructed out of the sail from a boat — a thoughtful nod to the region's nautical culture. Step out of the French doors and you'll find yourself in the home's garden, which comes with tidy plant rows, an alfresco seating area and a hot tub for those warm summer evenings — or even those chilly winter ones if you're feeling hardy. The home's location in the seaside village of Hamble-le-Rice presents a plethora of distractions to keep your guests entertained. It's possible to see the Hamble River rolling on by from the kitchen and bedrooms windows, and if it gives you the inspiration to see it up close, it only takes two minutes to walk to the historic waterfront with its quay and marinas. The port city of Southampton is only a twenty-minute drive away, too.

Five minutes on foot from the rugged Brook coastal path and its picturesque beach, you’ll love coming home to this cosy, cottage-like apartment after a windswept day by the shores. In a rustic, stone farmhouse, this home has a wonderfully rural character from the offset. With original features of the building standing strong, such as chunky timber ceiling beams, wooden floors, and barn-style doors, we love the traditional feel of the home. The soft furnishings make the living space warm and inviting, with natural light streaming in through skylights. Your host has also made sure that you can keep the whole family entertained – the playground outside has a slide and trampoline for the kids, as well as table tennis (which might end up being an activity for ‘big kids’ too). Light up the barbecue and sit out on the patio for a grill and a glass of wine, before a night of stargazing.

Only forty-six spots across the country have achieved the ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ label, and the Isle of Wight plays host to one of them. As your home is set within this highly prized region, the landscapes around you are incredible. Five minutes on foot from Brook’s rugged coastal path and beach, fill your lungs with fresh air from the sea and relax in your country retreat. In a former farmhouse, complete with a rustic stone exterior and original timber beams inside, this apartment mixes traditional elements with modern flair and well-thought-out facilities. Families will love the playground – with swings and a trampoline – as well as the board game collection for rainy days. While the kids keep busy, you can relax in the vast lounge on a plush sofa, with a warm Earl Grey in hand. And with French doors in the master bedroom, you can open up the curtains to the lush lawn on a sunny morning, or make the most of stargazing opportunities at night. Feel free to pour a tumbler of whisky after the kids have gone to bed.

Just steps from Charminster High Street, this ground floor flat is brimming with Victorian character. It's a lovely red-brick townhouse, with plenty of historic charm to admire – think high ceilings and picture rails, ornamental ceiling roses, tall skirting boards and large bay windows flooding the rooms with light. Though it's on the smaller side, it's been well-designed to maximise the space – we think it's perfectly suited to a couple after a romantic escape. Read the morning paper in the plush armchair, help yourself to a selection of cereals and teas at the rustic breakfast bar or unwind after a busy day with a movie night in the cosy living room. The kitchenette is more suited to light bites than extravagant meals, so in the evenings you may want to dine out – there's an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants in Charminster to choose from. Bournemouth town centre and its sandy beaches are a twenty-five-minute walk (though we recommend driving), or venture a little further and enjoy a trip to the Jurassic Coast, famous for its fossils – you can be there in under an hour.

With the preponderance of wood in the walls and furnishings, as well as the chalet-style kitchen and warm lighting throughout, there's a distinct Americana style to this recently converted home. However, it's actually to be found right on England's south coast and the seaside at the village of Milford-On-Sea can be reached in just five minutes in the car. Despite this proximity to the coast, the cabin is more rural in feel. For a start, it's located down a quiet country lane and there's a large garden surrounding complete with fruit trees — which guests are welcome to pick at the right time of year. Out among this manicured outside space, there's also a barbecue and a fire pit that will see you through long summer evenings. When you want to more of the charming locale, there's a pair of bicycles that guests are free to borrow. Hurst Castle takes just over twenty-five minutes to reach if you're feeling like a bit of a challenge and there are plenty of nearby pubs to reward yourselves with well-earned liquid refreshment.

Only a couple of blocks from bars and eateries, this modern home places its guests beside Bournemouth Beach. You'll receive a thoughtful welcome hamper upon your arrival, offering slippers and teatime treats. Don't fancy sipping sundowners on the decking? Hang out in the games room instead. There's even Netflix and a PlayStation here. As for practical bonuses, the twin beds can be set up as doubles. With an EV charger, Dorset road trips are on the cards via the easily accessible A338 dual carriageway.

A historic gatehouse on the grounds of the Shaftesbury Estate in rural Dorset, this petite one-bed lodge has recently undergone a loving refurb by one of the estate owners, Lady Shaftesbury. She obviously has a great eye for design, as her palette of delicious apricot and duck egg blue stylishly updates this vintage cottage into not just a twenty-first-century home, but a home with charm and character. There are plenty of thoughtful touches we found exquisite, from soft dressing gowns to the complementary breakfast hamper – and everything, from Egyptian cotton bedding to the plush sofas, is of boutique hotel quality. The hosts are attentive, meticulously committed to making sure your every whim is met. All in all, this cosy country hideaway is perfect for city escapes, with nearby the great beaches of the Jurassic coast, the New Forest, the National Trust property of Kingston Lacey, cities like Salisbury or Portsmouth and traditional seaside in Bournemouth. And while it feels like one of a kind, a twin lodge and two maisonettes in a neighbouring cottage are also available, so you can bring your friends too (although you might want to keep this little secret to yourself).

This Grade II listed home has bags of charm and a super slick and contemporary feel. In the heart of quaint Christchurch, the home has rich, inviting rooms, with modern and period features in equal measure. Everything about it feels luxurious, from the colour palette to the flawless bathrooms, complete with a freestanding bathtub and gorgeous showers to recharge in. The bedrooms are kitted out with hotel-level beds and superior linens. With its two log burners and plush sofas, the home is set up for cosy winter break and evenings spent together in the lounge with a film, or around the grand dining table with a feast. Head to the balcony in the warmer months and relax on the sofas with a round of cool beers. Spend days on the local Blue Flag beaches, or rent a small boat which you can moor right outside the home seeing that you'll be based on the River Avon. For serious style and luxury in the heart of a pretty coastal town, look no further.

Bright, open and immaculate in every way, it's a place to relax, take a deep breath of fresh, country air and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Set on the owners' farm, and right next to their stables, you'll have a great view of the horses being fed each morning – something that's bound to excite the children. 

Anything but rustic, the interiors here are stylish and high-end, with wide-plank flooring and plenty of fabulous stripped back timber beams. The huge living space, surrounded on three sides by floor-to-ceiling windows, is the heart of the home, with squashy velvet sofas, a dining table for six and a delightful kitchen. Equipped with everything you could need, keen cooks will be in their element.

Set in the South Downs National Park, with views across the rolling hills, here you'll have your own private lawned garden area and you're welcome to explore the rest of the grounds. It's a twenty-minute walk into the pretty market town of Bishop's Waltham, with its shops and pubs, and don't miss a visit to the ruins of its historic abbey. And it's less than a half-hour drive to both Southampton and Portsmouth.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Hampshire, this charming flintstone cottage has sprawling views of the surrounding countryside and easy access to walking trails that take you through fields and woods and into picturesque villages with charming pubs. Roaming around this area (including visiting nearby Winchester) feels a bit like taking a step back in history – the air is fresher, the pace of life slower, and the atmosphere much more relaxed. During our visit, we were blown away by host Victoria's friendly nature and attention to detail. She lives on-site in the main house, and on arrival, she'll greet you with homemade jams and fresh eggs from her free-range chickens. Her quintessential English garden is a truly magical place, filled with herbs, flowers and fruit trees – imagine birds singing, deer munching on apples and stargazing under the clear night sky. On clear mornings, open the French doors and enjoy coffee on the terrace in the sunshine. Though there's not heaps of space – there's no living area, and the kitchenette is on the smaller side – it's still a cosy place for a couple to experience an idyllic stay in the country.
