Only a short stroll from West Wittering Beach, this home provides the perfect base for exploring the West Sussex coast. Sandwiched between the South Downs National Park and the Chichester Harbour AONB, it doesn’t get more away-from-it-all country glam than this little Sussex nook. It’s on the edge of a wildlife meadow, so sessions on the private terrace come with the soundtrack of birdsong and a gentle summer breeze. Spot wildlife from the warmth of the private hot tub on the deck, or perhaps from the swing seat, strung up on the porch. 

The interior is a reflection of the wilderness location, with wooden artworks featuring fawns and birdlife on display in the cosy bedrooms. The window seat in the master makes for the perfect reading nook, overlooking the meadow, and there’s a desk in here should you need to work remotely. A timber cabin surrounded by meadows and woodland might sound like a back-to-basics retreat, but at this home in rural Sussex, guests will have a wealth of luxuries at their disposal.

This is before you've even entered the home, as well. Out on the decked terrace, there's a hot tub from which you can enjoy the tranquillity of the local area, as well as a sofa and swing seat. When the sun goes down, there are festoon lights to turn on, plus a charcoal barbecue and fire pit to keep you fed and warm.

If the temperature dips a little too low, there's a wood-burning fireplace inside the home, as well as plenty of cosy blankets and board games. Inside, the design is rustic in places, as with the weathered wood dining table, but the sleek black kitchen and stylish bedrooms are nothing but modern.

When it comes to filling up your itinerary, there's so much to see and do nearby. The sprawling South Downs National Park starts a minute's drive to the north, while the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sits a similar amount of time in the opposite direction. The town of Bognor Regis and its beach can be reached in twenty-five minutes.

Carefully renovated with comfort in mind, this barn opens its doors to a peaceful retreat in Chichester. You’ll need a car to get the most out of your stay, but it’s just a short drive to the South Downs National Park and Chichester Harbour. The grounds are shared with a neighbouring home, but you will have a private terrace – perfect for sipping sundowners, and there are lovely garden views from the living room. The ground floor bedroom makes this home easily accessible for guests with reduced mobility.

Well, there's no mystery why this home has made our collection. The apartment is right on the beach in East Wittering, so as you can see, it has great views of the sea from the private sunny balcony as well as most rooms. Yes, the galley kitchen is a bit compact if there are more than two people in there, but it's modern and well-equipped. If you tire of East Wittering Beach (unlikely we know), West Wittering Beach, with its views of Chichester, is less than a ten-minute drive. Otherwise, Chichester Marina is just over ten minutes away in the car, and Goodwood House is around a thirty-minute ride.

Make yourself at home in this contemporary bungalow just 100 metres from the sea. It's perfect for a family – not only will kids have their own room filled with books and toys, but the playhouse in the garden is sure to be a favourite. While they're playing pretend, parents can kick back and relax at the picnic table, enjoying a refreshing drink and free-flowing conversation as the stars pop out overhead. 

During the summer, fling open the patio doors and effortlessly transition between the sunny garden and the sleek living area. Inspired by the coastal setting, the design features deep blues, crisp whites and lots of natural elements – we're particularly fond of the three-piece octopus print hanging near the sofa. When the weather is chilly, the log-burner will keep things nice and toasty as you wind down with a glass of wine and a Netflix movie.

When you're ready to venture out, it's about ten minutes on foot to Bosham village, where you'll find a waterfront pub, cafe and a few shops. The walks along the harbour are excellent, but most of the action lies in Chichester's historic city centre, a seventeen-minute drive away. For a day at the beach, West Wittering's Blue Flag Beach is a must-visit – it's about half an hour away by car.

Three is also a sweet little garden and private parking is included in your stay. From here, it’s just a short walk into the heart of Funtington, while Chichester and Goodwood are just a short drive away.

This is the kind of place we'd recommend for a longer stay, just because we feel that a one-week booking will barely let you scrape the surface of all it has to offer. The insides are designed for a large family to play, relax, and adventure together, especially as the house is well-equipped with cooking supplies, DVDs, and games. But of course, the real highlight of this house is its beautiful natural surroundings – the mudflats outside offer a unique opportunity for wildlife fanatics and birdwatchers to get their wellies on and reconnect with nature. We love how the whole house is designed with the awareness of the natural beauty just outside, and every room has a stunning view that keeps inviting you to go outdoors. The living space benefits from large picture windows, an intricate fireplace and nautical furnishings that make it as homely as it is bright. Speaking of, the luminous conservatory is a light and airy space to enjoy group meals together while keeping one eye out for the lesser spotted red-breasted merganser. Better still, start your day in the calm fresh air – there's a lovely patio and garden area to enjoy your morning coffee from, complete with an outdoor dining table and chairs. When you're ready to explore the nearby towns, we recommend that you start with Chichester's Cathedrals, then take a twenty-minute drive to West Wittering beach for a day trip. If there are Peppa Pig fans in your party, then a visit to Peppa Pig World at Paulton's Park is also a must. While others may enjoy mooching around the picturesque village of Bosham next door – a six-minute drive. There's so much to see and do here, although we wouldn't blame you for spending most of your time languorously birdwatching, playing games and enjoying the scenic waterfront surroundings at home.

There’s plenty to keep all the family entertained at home, too. Get on the Peloton, bounce around the trampoline, or have a game of table tennis. But it’s not all go-go-go here – sometimes all you want to do is read your book beside the pool, basking in the UK’s beautiful south coast. With a double sofa bed facing the wall-to-wall bi-fold doors, you can wake up to a green view of the shared garden. The kitchen, although not the biggest, has a coffee maker and everything you need for light bites to enjoy alfresco on the terrace. A short drive from Aldwick Beach, Portsmouth and Waterlooville Golf Club, there's a little something for everyone here.

On the ground floor, you'll find a minimalist open layout that's tailor-made for sociable stays, with plenty of space for everyone to sink into one of the comfortable sofas, play board games around the dining table and prepare family meals in the kitchen. Make the most of sunny days and step through the sliding doors and out into the garden, with its wooden deck and stepping stones winding between raised flower beds.

Its four bedrooms are split between the ground and first floors. The upstairs bedrooms are decked out in trendy OSB, which does away with the need for plastering and painting and adds a warm glow that only natural materials can bring.

The nearby beach is the undoubted star of your stay. However, there's plenty more to discover within a short drive. East Wittering is well-catered for when it comes to cafes, pubs and stocking up on essentials. Thrill seekers might like to book themselves a kitesurfing lesson, with kayaking and paddleboarding offering slightly more sedate options.

A little under 10 miles away, the pedestrianised centre of the cathedral city of Chichester is a pleasant place to while away an afternoon. Alternatively, listen to the roar of the engines at Goodwood's iconic motor racing circuit or the shouts of the crowds urging on their picks at Goodwood Racecourse.

The third bedroom, complete with a bunk bed, is aimed at children – we think this makes the home best suited to a family or two couples who want to explore nearby Portsmouth and Chichester, along with the coast.

We love how the garden is a perfect run for dogs, and a fire pit awaits your evening hangouts. Prefer to cosy up indoors? Light the log burner and settle in the sunny window seat.

When we boast that this amazing home is beachfront, we really mean it, with direct access to Bracklesham beach via the garden, you really couldn’t get much closer. Wander along the pebbled shore with your four-legged friend and listen to the crunch of stones beneath your feet, brave a dip in the sea, or even challenge the kids to build sculptures from the stones. 

Built in the 1920s around a classic railway carriage, this home has been extensively modernised, and expanded over the years but still holds much of that original charm. We would love nothing more than to wake up here to the soothing sound of the waves and seagulls calls before enjoying breakfast on the balcony to truly admire the views. 

Spend the day relaxing at home, reading a good book on the terrace while the children entertain themselves in the playroom which is filled with kids’ books and toys, or taking a dip in the swimming pool. 

Head out for the day and visit West Wittering’s stunning Blue Flag Beach – a short six-minute drive away – for a sandy beach experience, and let the children play in the salty waves and build castles on the sand. Visit Chichester Cathedral – a twenty-seven-minute drive away, or spend a day at the races at Goodwood horse racing course or Goodwood Motor Circuit, reachable by car in twenty-nine minutes and twenty-three minutes, respectively. 

In the evening, dine together as a family, and then when the children are all in bed, why not end the day with a cool glass of wine on the balcony as you enjoy the outstanding sea views.
