If you’ve ever dreamed of staying in a typical New England mansion, then this modern home is just the ticket. Only you’re not in the Hamptons – this is Hampshire, in good old Blighty. From the panoramic window walls to the contemporary furnishings, this is a super sophisticated escape to the country. There are rustic touches, with plush sand-coloured sofas in the sitting room, and a soft blue country kitchen, creating a homely feel. Large, stylish bedrooms include two playful children’s rooms, and bathrooms feature luxurious walk-in showers and free-standing tubs. Spend fun times in the games room, or outside on the family-sized football pitch and climbing frame. Or head down to the lower ground floor and slip into the luxurious indoor pool or sauna. Outside, a stunning deck wraps around the back of the home, with an alfresco dining area and loungers for sunny days. While beneath is the lower ground floor patio, with a relaxing lounge area accessed directly from the pool. Beyond that, the lush green grounds offer an idyllic setting to unwind and reconnect with friends and family.

Cory's Retreat

With an outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, and a games room, this countryside home has plenty to shout about. Located in the picturesque village of Hascombe, surrounded by hills and woodlands, you’re perfectly placed for hiking and birdwatching here. And while you’ll benefit from the rural location, when you want to stock up on supplies, the town of Godalming is just a ten-minute drive away. After a day exploring the surrounding villages, you’ll find plenty of sofa space in the two living rooms for relaxing. Or you can tuck into a sociable meal around the dining table, while enjoying countryside views. We think this home is a great choice for a memorable group getaway with family or friends.

 The Surrey Hideaway

Back in the 16th century, this manor home was managed by the Clerk of the Privy Seal to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. And this apartment within the manor extolls all the extravagance of a Tudor era country retreat. Cross the Italian courtyard to enter and, stepping inside, you’ll find a charming living room adorned with oil paintings and set around an old fireplace. Original wood floors run from here into the kitchen, which has plenty of natural light from the sash window.

The jewel in this apartment’s crown has to be the master bedroom. Decked out in Tudor-style splendour, you can drift off to sleep in the hand-carved four-poster bed, swathed with satin curtains. An exposed brick fireplace would have welcomed weary travellers back in the day and the separate seating area is particularly atmospheric when lit by candlelight. Four further bedrooms all have their own character and style in midnight-blue, sage-green and coral, all packed with plenty of old-world charm. 

Rest, Weary Traveller

Nestled in the rolling hills of Hampshire, this charming flintstone cottage has sprawling views of the surrounding countryside and easy access to walking trails that take you through fields and woods and into picturesque villages with charming pubs. Roaming around this area (including visiting nearby Winchester) feels a bit like taking a step back in history – the air is fresher, the pace of life slower, and the atmosphere much more relaxed. During our visit, we were blown away by host Victoria's friendly nature and attention to detail. She lives on-site in the main house, and on arrival, she'll greet you with homemade jams and fresh eggs from her free-range chickens. Her quintessential English garden is a truly magical place, filled with herbs, flowers and fruit trees – imagine birds singing, deer munching on apples and stargazing under the clear night sky. On clear mornings, open the French doors and enjoy coffee on the terrace in the sunshine. Though there's not heaps of space – there's no living area, and the kitchenette is on the smaller side – it's still a cosy place for a couple to experience an idyllic stay in the country.

Cinnamon & Ginger

The world is your oyster at Head Over Hills. Nestled into the rolling hills of the South Downs by Amberly Wild Brooks, this home blends rustic living with an incredible range of modern luxuries to create a unique space that inspires you to slow down and spend time with your loved ones. Boasting 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape, a meditation pod, a sundeck, and private bluebell woods, we can’t think of a better place to unwind. Head out to the hills to explore the impressive sceneries (host Jemma also offers bike rentals), then come home and soothe your aching muscles in the wood-burning hot tub. Jemma also offers a menu of wellness retreat packages at an extra cost (think along the lines of yoga and pilates classes, sound baths and meditation instructors). And if you want to learn a new skill, you can also book vegan and raw food cookery courses – there are even creative tutorials in things like art and photography. At night, we recommend cooking up a storm in the bespoke kitchen (or hiring a private chef to do the honours), socialising with friends, and taking in your stunning surroundings.

Head Over Hills

In a secluded spot down a single-track lane, this contemporary barn is a welcome surprise. Renovated in the style of Caruso St John (the famed architects behind the Tate Modern), it's a striking tribute to modern, eco-friendly design – solar panels and a heat source pump power the heating and hot water. The inside is just as dramatic, with copper light fittings, high-design furniture and large picture windows that make the most of the garden views. All the mod-cons are accounted for, including rain showers, a home-cinema projector and underfloor heating to keep chilly toes at bay. Throw a log on the wood-burner for extra cosiness and snuggle up in the window seat with a good book. Outside there's even more to love, including a private pool, leafy garden and a calisthenic gym space that works as a yoga or kickboxing studio. After a morning workout and a dip in the pool, enjoy a walk around Manor Bottom, or if you want to stretch your legs even more, the seaside town of Ventnor is a forty-minute walk away. But our favourite part were the hosts. The amount of love Steven and Agnieszka put into making their guests' stay extra special is quite something. No detail has been overlooked, be it organic toiletries, a welcome hamper filled with local jams and chutneys or arranging on-site massages. They even go the extra mile to carefully curate books and music for each individual guest – safe to say, you'll be in excellent hands.

The Granaries

This stunning home is tucked away within the grounds of a country club on the outskirts of Titchfield, Hampshire. It’s in a quiet spot next to a paddock and is close to the Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve, a marvellous spot for bird-watching. Portsmouth’s beaches and harbour are only 12 miles away, making it a great spot for a day trip. When you’re not out exploring, you’ll be glad to have such a peaceful home-from-home. The open-plan living and dining space has high ceilings and wooden beams, with a wood-burning stove for chilly weather. In spring and summer, you can open the bi-fold doors and spend time on the patio. 

Titchfield Haven

Get far away from the madding crowd in Thomas Hardy’s Dorset with this beautiful home – it’s the perfect romantic retreat. Surrounded by woodland, relax in the hot tub with a glass of fizz (or whip up a smoothie with the blender in the kitchen), and when the sun sets, cosy up by the fire pit. There’s a hammock to unwind in as well. 

The sylvan setting can be admired through the French doors in the living room, too – keep your eyes peeled for visiting wildlife. At the end of an idyllic day, head up to bed in the treehouse-like bedroom with its honeycomb-shaped, whitewashed wood ceiling before exploring the area the following morning. 

Out and about, the market town of Blandford Forum, with its array of eateries, is a six-minute drive. Alternatively, the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy, a country house and estate near Wimborne Minster, is eight minutes in the car, while Thomas Hardy's Cottage is twenty-three minutes. Further afield, Sandbanks, with its award-winning beach and chic boutiques, is just over a thirty-five-minute ride, so there’s plenty to keep you busy here.

Honey Bee Cottage

Set within 150 acres of private parkland majestically situated along the banks of the River Itchen, make the most of an exceptional opportunity to experience life in a privately owned stately home that includes both Charles II and George IV among its illustrious guests.

With wonderful rooms overlooking the charming Italian garden, this beautiful ground-floor flat has four luxurious bedrooms that offer up to eight guests a chance to enjoy the good life. A gorgeous drawing room faces the quaint floral courtyard, making it the perfect spot to relax with the Sunday papers throughout the year.

Despite the feeling of seclusion, you're actually only around five miles outside the charming cathedral city of Winchester. Here – in England's ancient capital – you'll find great shopping, fantastic food and the country's largest farmers' market. The birthplace of cricket and where Jane Austen was laid to rest, your stay here is guaranteed to be a quintessentially English experience.

Country Courtyard

You'll find this 18th-century cottage in the heart of the South Downs, nestled on the edge of the illustrious Avington Park. Cosiness personified, the snug sitting room has a crackling wood-burner and squishy sofas that beckon for lounging, either with a glass of wine on chilly evenings or a good book on winter afternoons. A separate drawing room is a perfect spot to gather for family game nights, while the rustic kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up Sunday roasts to enjoy around the dining table. Upstairs, the three comfortable bedrooms promise a good night's sleep. Our favourite is the third bedroom, with its exposed beams and vaulted ceilings – it has two double beds, making it a great option for kids. 

If you're in the mood to pick up the pace, Winchester is a fifteen-minute drive and has a wide array of shops, restaurants and museums. Or take it slow and enjoy a ramble through the countryside, stopping for a pint and some pub grub at the country inns.

Autumn's Being

In the heart of Frome, this Georgian home blends period character with a sense of calm. Light streams across tall windows, a roll-top bath invites slow evenings, and every detail is designed for comfort. Outside, cobbled streets lead to artisan markets, bookshops, and cafés where you can spend hours browsing or people-watching. Day trips open up to Somerset’s treasures, from Bath’s Roman spas to the gardens of Stourhead. Evenings are for intimate dinners in town or lingering over a glass of wine at home. It’s a place for romantic getaways or restful escapes, where history, culture, and quiet luxury come together.

Timeless in Frome

Tucked in the woods just outside the village of Cranleigh, this beautiful home welcomes you to a rural retreat at the base of the Surrey Hills.

Located on the grounds of a home that once belonged to an Arborist, this charming Annexe has been thoughtfully designed to fill your stay with luxurious comfort. And just like the natural beauty of its surroundings, there’s an uplifting quality to this space – it’s the kind of home that makes you want to unpack your bags and settle in.
