This Victorian home right on the coast has several surprises up its sleeve. Recently renovated, it's a listed building bursting with character and quirky architectural features – like the crenellated facade and the Gothic windows – but it's been brought bang up to date with contemporary interiors and every mod con. In a secluded spot down a single-track lane, this contemporary barn is a welcome surprise. Renovated in the style of Caruso St John (the famed architects behind the Tate Modern), it's a striking tribute to modern, eco-friendly design – solar panels and a heat source pump power the heating and hot water. The inside is just as dramatic, with copper light fittings, high-design furniture and large picture windows that make the most of the garden views. All the mod-cons are accounted for, including rain showers, a home-cinema projector and underfloor heating to keep chilly toes at bay. Throw a log on the wood-burner for extra cosiness and snuggle up in the window seat with a good book. Outside there's even more to love, including a private pool, leafy garden and a calisthenic gym space that works as a yoga or kickboxing studio. After a morning workout and a dip in the pool, enjoy a walk around Manor Bottom, or if you want to stretch your legs even more, the seaside town of Ventnor is a forty-minute walk away. But our favourite part were the hosts. The amount of love Steven and Agnieszka put into making their guests' stay extra special is quite something. No detail has been overlooked, be it organic toiletries, a welcome hamper filled with local jams and chutneys or arranging on-site massages. They even go the extra mile to carefully curate books and music for each individual guest – safe to say, you'll be in excellent hands.

Modern-day Gatsbys should feel right at home at this glorious art-deco manor. You'll find it in the south of the Isle of Wight, with an unbeatable clifftop location and extraordinary views down to the wind-whipped coastline. This Grade-II listed home's white exterior and large bay windows make this address stand out from its neighbours and it all looks rather palatial, we must say. This impression continues when you head inside and spot the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, the ornamental fireplaces and the lacquer dining table. The kitchen is rather more rustic in appearance, with exposed brickwork working nicely alongside the skylight constructed out of the sail from a boat — a thoughtful nod to the region's nautical culture. Step out of the French doors and you'll find yourself in the home's garden, which comes with tidy plant rows, an alfresco seating area and a hot tub for those warm summer evenings — or even those chilly winter ones if you're feeling hardy. The home's location in the seaside village of Hamble-le-Rice presents a plethora of distractions to keep your guests entertained. It's possible to see the Hamble River rolling on by from the kitchen and bedrooms windows, and if it gives you the inspiration to see it up close, it only takes two minutes to walk to the historic waterfront with its quay and marinas. The port city of Southampton is only a twenty-minute drive away, too.

This stunning home is tucked away within the grounds of a country club on the outskirts of Titchfield, Hampshire. It’s in a quiet spot next to a paddock and is close to the Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve, a marvellous spot for bird-watching. Portsmouth’s beaches and harbour are only 12 miles away, making it a great spot for a day trip. When you’re not out exploring, you’ll be glad to have such a peaceful home-from-home. The open-plan living and dining space has high ceilings and wooden beams, with a wood-burning stove for chilly weather. In spring and summer, you can open the bi-fold doors and spend time on the patio.

A five-minute walk from Brook’s rugged coastal path and golden beach, the fresh sea air is never far from this isolated cottage. In a huge old farmhouse-style building, your quarters have tons of countryside character. Timber beams support the high vaulted ceilings, warm wooden flooring can be found throughout, and original, rustic barn-like doors keep things traditional. That said, every modern convenience is available, although some have a vintage edge like the red Smeg fridge. Leisure certainly hasn’t been forgotten about either, with board games and an outdoor play area to keep the whole family entertained. While the little ones romp in the garden, relax on the patio with a pot of tea. And when dinnertime strikes, you can light up the barbecue to dine alfresco on a balmy summer evening. As the home is located in the Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (one of only forty-six such spots in the UK), the prized landscape is exceptional for walking, fossil hunting, and windsurfing. But if you do fancy something a little more urban, the island’s main town of Cowes is just a twenty-five-minute drive.

Well, there's no mystery why this home has made our collection. The apartment is right on the beach in East Wittering, so as you can see, it has great views of the sea from the private sunny balcony as well as most rooms. Yes, the galley kitchen is a bit compact if there are more than two people in there, but it's modern and well-equipped. If you tire of East Wittering Beach (unlikely we know), West Wittering Beach, with its views of Chichester, is less than a ten-minute drive. Otherwise, Chichester Marina is just over ten minutes away in the car, and Goodwood House is around a thirty-minute ride.

The house itself is designed to feel like a cabin with the comforts of modern touches. A bright living room and kitchen provide cosy convenience, yet the home comes to life in the cute kitchen garden and sprawling outside space. 

The kitchen garden is where we suggest spending sunrise or sunset. It offers one of the prettiest views on the island, and it's shaped in comfy seats for unbridled luxury. 

Adjacent to the kitchen garden, you'll find a diverse room tailored to all activities. You can fire up the projector on colder nights to watch your favourite film, or use it as a yoga studio in the mornings for a wholesome start to the day.

How you spend that day is all up to you. You're welcome to use the home's four bikes to explore the gorgeous scenery, or mosey over to the vineyards to pick up some wine for the evenings. 

If you prefer your adventures on the water, your host provides access to kayaks and paddle boards so you can traverse the water. There's also a private jetty, an idyllic spot to sit with a slice of pizza from the pizza oven and bask in the serenity. You also have exclusive access to the vineyards – and there's even a helipad should you wish to arrive in style!

And with the welcome addition of a barbecue and pizza oven, summer evening’s can be spent embracing family fun and delicious meals in the garden. 

Back inside, you’ll find the living room sets the tone for cosy movie nights while the snug bedrooms will ensure you awaken feeling refreshed and ready to explore. 

Days can be spent strolling along the seafront, braving invigorating swims, following hiking trails and admiring the beautiful views. You’ll find it's just a short walk (or drive) to the local shops, pubs and restaurants, while the historic city of Chichester is easily reachable by car too.

Five minutes from the city centre, ten minutes from Ocean Village and a couple of minutes from Oxford Street, this modern apartment is in the middle of all the must-see areas. Head in any direction and you'll probably stumble across the vibrant areas of the city in a few minutes. 

For a day of shopping, Oxford Street is the first place on your itinerary. It's lined with all the notable high-street stores and nearby to a huge shopping centre filled with on-trend stores and eating spots. You can spend a whole day perusing the aisles for cool clothing. 

If you prefer to take the day at a leisurely pace, head to the welcoming ambiance of Ocean Village. The marina is shaped by vibrant bars and restaurants offering alfresco dining near the water. Sharing delicious food and drink in the warm evenings by the marina is one of the highlights of the city.

However you spend your days, the apartment is made for putting your feet up and relaxing. A large TV shows your favourite films and TV series, whilst the glass dining table is made for sharing meals. For a treat, sit on the balcony with a glass of wine or beer and enjoy the peace and privacy.

Cities & Villages

This cosy cabin is the perfect little bolthole for couples wanting to escape to the country. The location right at the heart of the New Forest means you’ll feel miles away from the stresses of daily life – as you fly down country lanes on your bike, you’ll feel your worries melting away. 

The cabin is just outside of Brockenhurst, in an area that feels secluded but isn’t too far from the nearest shops. You can stroll to the pub in fifteen minutes, which is a welcome sight after a day spent hiking the trails. A four-minute drive will get you to beautiful Beaulieu, which is well worth an afternoon strolling around after lunch in a cafe. The abbey is just six minutes from the cabin – the tranquil ruins are always popular with history buffs. 

If you need an ice cream on the beach for it to feel like a holiday, you’re in luck. Fifteen minutes by car will have you on a sandy shore, though we can’t guarantee it’ll be paddling weather. 

For us, the real joy of this cabin is its countryside setting. Walking just five minutes from the front door will see you on walking and cycling trails. When your feet start to feel sore, head back to the cabin to soak in the luxurious claw-foot tub before spending the evening in front of the fire. Absolute bliss. 


In The Potting Shed

There's nothing quite like escaping to the country for a few days and this converted stable barn is a million miles away from the stresses of day-to-day life. Bright, open and immaculate in every way, it's a place to relax, take a deep breath of fresh, country air and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Set on the owners' farm, and right next to their stables, you'll have a great view of the horses being fed each morning – something that's bound to excite the children. 

Anything but rustic, the interiors here are stylish and high-end, with wide-plank flooring and plenty of fabulous stripped back timber beams. The huge living space, surrounded on three sides by floor-to-ceiling windows, is the heart of the home, with squashy velvet sofas, a dining table for six and a delightful kitchen. Equipped with everything you could need, keen cooks will be in their element.

Set in the South Downs National Park, with views across the rolling hills, here you'll have your own private lawned garden area and you're welcome to explore the rest of the grounds. It's a twenty-minute walk into the pretty market town of Bishop's Waltham, with its shops and pubs, and don't miss a visit to the ruins of its historic abbey. And it's less than a half-hour drive to both Southampton and Portsmouth.

This enchanting home has more than a hint of the modern fairytale about it. Dating back to the regency period, you'll first notice the bright green wrought iron details and curved walls from the outside, and a grassy lawn that makes the perfect spot for a picnic on a sunny afternoon – jug of Pimms optional. Inside, the living room is decked out in soothing, neutral tones while the kitchen cabinets are a punchy emerald shade. However, the standout feature of this house has to be the magnificent orangery. Just as beautiful in the morning light as it is after dark, this glass room has a long table where you can gather for relaxed breakfasts and formal sit-down dinners. If you'd rather someone else did the cooking during your trip, then there are several options in Emsworth, from cosy pubs to cute cafés. Plus, you'll love strolling down to Emsworth Harbour to watch the boats bobbing in the water – and, if you're feeling brave, there's always the option to try out some water-sports too.

A timber cabin surrounded by meadows and woodland might sound like a back-to-basics retreat, but at this home in rural Sussex, guests will have a wealth of luxuries at their disposal.

This is before you've even entered the home, as well. Out on the decked terrace, there's a hot tub from which you can enjoy the tranquillity of the local area, as well as a sofa and swing seat. When the sun goes down, there are festoon lights to turn on, plus a charcoal barbecue and fire pit to keep you fed and warm.

If the temperature dips a little too low, there's a wood-burning fireplace inside the home, as well as plenty of cosy blankets and board games. Inside, the design is rustic in places, as with the weathered wood dining table, but the sleek black kitchen and stylish bedrooms are nothing but modern.

When it comes to filling up your itinerary, there's so much to see and do nearby. The sprawling South Downs National Park starts a minute's drive to the north, while the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sits a similar amount of time in the opposite direction. The town of Bognor Regis and its beach can be reached in twenty-five minutes.

When we boast that this amazing home is beachfront, we really mean it, with direct access to Bracklesham beach via the garden, you really couldn’t get much closer. Wander along the pebbled shore with your four-legged friend and listen to the crunch of stones beneath your feet, brave a dip in the sea, or even challenge the kids to build sculptures from the stones. 

Built in the 1920s around a classic railway carriage, this home has been extensively modernised, and expanded over the years but still holds much of that original charm. We would love nothing more than to wake up here to the soothing sound of the waves and seagulls calls before enjoying breakfast on the balcony to truly admire the views. 

Spend the day relaxing at home, reading a good book on the terrace while the children entertain themselves in the playroom which is filled with kids’ books and toys, or taking a dip in the swimming pool. 

Head out for the day and visit West Wittering’s stunning Blue Flag Beach – a short six-minute drive away – for a sandy beach experience, and let the children play in the salty waves and build castles on the sand. Visit Chichester Cathedral – a twenty-seven-minute drive away, or spend a day at the races at Goodwood horse racing course or Goodwood Motor Circuit, reachable by car in twenty-nine minutes and twenty-three minutes, respectively. 

In the evening, dine together as a family, and then when the children are all in bed, why not end the day with a cool glass of wine on the balcony as you enjoy the outstanding sea views.

This pretty farm building conversion offers all the independence of a private cottage with its own garden, with the added bonus of communal grounds where children can run free. Ideal for families, it's part of a small complex of similar homes just a five-minute walk from the nearest beach. Comfortable and smart, the single-storey cottage shows off its heritage with a stable door, high ceilings, oak beams and skylights, while the open-plan living space is perfect for keeping an eye on the kids as you whip up meals in the country kitchen. Bedrooms are cosy and relaxing, and we love the double doors that open out into the garden from the master bedroom. Outside, make use of the barbecue in your enclosed garden, or take the kids to the communal play area. With a fort, swings and a sunken trampoline, it's bound to be a hit. Walk to some of the area's best beaches from your doorstep, stroll to the local pub and head off on all sorts of adventures around the island by car.  

Bay Cottage

Situated on England's sunny south coast — well, relatively speaking — this home has plenty of ways for you to enjoy a summer's day. The terrace out through the French doors has a glorious view of the River Hamble where you can enjoy paddleboarding, sailing, riverside walks or use as a base for sailing regattas. You can even arrive by boat and moor at the Elephant Boatyard opposite the house. Elsewhere in the large garden, there's a wooden summerhouse with a log burner that brings a touch of apres-ski glamour to this corner of Hampshire, great for cosy sundowners in the winter and family barbecues in summer.

Inside, the preference for wooden interiors continues in the main house, especially in the open-concept living space with its parquet flooring, roof beams and rustic dining table next to a set of tall windows. As well as a huge corner kitchen complete with a sociable island, there are two reception rooms, one with another wood burner for those autumnal evenings.

In the local area, you'll find it easy to enjoy the great outdoors. The River Hamble Country Park is only ten minutes' drive away and is good for a rural walk finished off with a hot chocolate. You're also opposite the Jolly Sailor pub which has roaring log fires in the winter and a great menu for outdoor dining. The centre of Southampton takes just over twenty minutes in the car whenever you fancy a change of pace.


The Hamble Anchorage

If it’s a relaxing, seaside getaway that you seek, you’ve hit the jackpot here. Simply step outside of your home and find yourself in front of the glittering south coast, breathing in the fresh sea air. It doesn’t get much more coastal than this. Here, you can start your days with invigorating walks along the beach, take early swims, or simply spend time by yourself on the pebbles.

Inside, you’ll find a warm and homely interior that’s been thoughtfully designed for you to feel at ease. There are subtle nods to the seaside surroundings, taking inspiration from the natural beauty, with earthy tones, blue hues, and atmospheric artwork. Not that you need reminding – the sparkly blue sea is in full view. 

If you’re not admiring the view with a cup of coffee or curled up in the conservatory with a good book, you’ll love spending your mornings in the sunny garden. Gather around the outdoor table for a hearty breakfast, letting the morning drift into the afternoon while you unwind on the sun loungers. 

If you get itchy feet, there are plenty of ways to fill your days. When you’re not relaxing on the beach, you can find a spot for surfing, paragliding, kite surfing, and more. West Sussex is full of fun watersport activities, or you can explore Selsey and the nearby towns on land. After a fun-filled day, be sure not to miss the sun dip into the English Channel at dusk.

Inside, tufted leather sofas invite you to sit back as a family amidst the striking equine artworks as a fire crackles in the wood-burning stove. We particularly love the barn-style sliding doors that offer a reminder of the building’s former life as a stable. The indoor kitchen is a delight to cook in, designed country-style with a big range cooker, yet modern feeling in slate grey. If you want to get out and explore the area you’ll find a pleasing mix of rural walking routes in the surrounding hills, and the quaint coffee shops, local pubs and shops of Bosham village a fifteen-minute walk away. The centre of Chichester is just a ten-minute drive away too.
