In the popular South Coast resort of Southsea, Portsmouth, you will find this fantastic home which boasts easy walking distance to the beach, a games room, a cinema room, and an outdoor terrace complete with a hot tub. So, whether the sun is shining during the summer or it’s a typical British day filled with rain, there is always something fun to do here. 

Spend your days on the beach or explore the vibrant city of Portsmouth with its fantastic outlet shopping at Gunwharf Quays – reachable in less than ten minutes by car. Enjoy a game of pool before dinnertime, and listen to songs from the jukebox as a backdrop to your family competition. Then, after dinner, snuggle up in the cinema room and watch a film. When the little ones are all tucked up in bed, what could be a better way to end the night than with a glass of wine in the hot tub?

Pier I Am

Surrounded by woodland with beautiful views across the River Meon, this home is ideally placed for a relaxing rural retreat. You can enjoy the views while sitting on the deck next to the water. Children will love exploring the grounds while everyone can enjoy cosy nights by the fire-pit. Inside, the rooms are simple, fresh and family-friendly. Your host provides a welcome pack with basic essentials and you’ll find plenty to explore in the surroundings. Follow the South Downs Way or adventure further afield to the villages of Meonstoke and Droxford.

Days by the River

Set on a farm in West Sussex, this charming cottage is the perfect couple’s retreat or solo getaway. The interiors are bright and fun, with pops of block colour punctuating each room. Downstairs there’s a cosy living area with a wood burning stove, which you can put a log on and curl up in front of a film in the evening. The modern kitchen is well stocked for cooking up homely meals, or on warm days fire up the barbecue and enjoy lunch alfresco at the wooden table outside. Look out the kitchen window and you might spot Nellie and Maggie, the shaggy Shetland ponies whose paddock is twenty feet away. Feel free to give them a carrot or two! 

The cottage is on a farm run by your hosts. You are surrounded by the great outdoors here, and you’ll have direct access to footpaths and bridleways which take you through the farm and out into the picturesque countryside beyond. As you walk out, stop by the Stud house, where you can say hello to the native ponies in their stable. The village of Billingshurst is a four-minute drive away, where you’ll find a supermarket and some local country pubs. Pay a visit to the Nyetimber vineyard, a fourteen-minute drive away, and pick up some of their excellent sparkling wine. After a day of exploring, there’s nothing better than enjoying a glass of bubbly back at home as the sun sets over the fields. 

Stud Cottage

The world is your oyster at Head Over Hills. Nestled into the rolling hills of the South Downs by Amberly Wild Brooks, this home blends rustic living with an incredible range of modern luxuries to create a unique space that inspires you to slow down and spend time with your loved ones. Boasting 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape, a meditation pod, a sundeck, and private bluebell woods, we can’t think of a better place to unwind. Head out to the hills to explore the impressive sceneries (host Jemma also offers bike rentals), then come home and soothe your aching muscles in the wood-burning hot tub. Jemma also offers a menu of wellness retreat packages at an extra cost (think along the lines of yoga and pilates classes, sound baths and meditation instructors). And if you want to learn a new skill, you can also book vegan and raw food cookery courses – there are even creative tutorials in things like art and photography. At night, we recommend cooking up a storm in the bespoke kitchen (or hiring a private chef to do the honours), socialising with friends, and taking in your stunning surroundings.

Head Over Hills

They say that first impressions are everything and we defy anybody not to be wowed upon laying eyes upon this Georgian property close to the West Sussex – the handsome brickwork, large sash windows and manicured front garden give off a real air of grandeur.

We're happy to report that this attention to appearance continues inside. The design treads the fine balance between heritage and modernity rather adroitly, with antique furnishings and decorative items sitting quite happily alongside more contemporary artworks and a smart kitchen. As well as looking the part, you won't struggle to get cosy in the pair of living rooms, complete with shelves packed full of books, a fireplace and a grand piano next to the bay window.

Nor will there be any difficulty in finding somewhere to unwind in the large garden during bursts of warm weather. Little ones will love bouncing about on the trampoline, while there's a large alfresco table that is the perfect setting for an alfresco dinner party – as well as a barbecue to help make that a reality.

If you're ever in need of ingredients, there's a farm shop just next door to the home. You don't have to go far to find distractions, either. The seaside village of Selsey is just over five minutes' drive away and there's a great choice of beaches in the local area, including West Wittering about twenty minutes away in the car. The cathedral city of Chichester takes a similar amount of time northwards, too.

Dashing Gentleman

If it’s a relaxing, seaside getaway that you seek, you’ve hit the jackpot here. Simply step outside of your home and find yourself in front of the glittering south coast, breathing in the fresh sea air. It doesn’t get much more coastal than this. Here, you can start your days with invigorating walks along the beach, take early swims, or simply spend time by yourself on the pebbles.

Inside, you’ll find a warm and homely interior that’s been thoughtfully designed for you to feel at ease. There are subtle nods to the seaside surroundings, taking inspiration from the natural beauty, with earthy tones, blue hues, and atmospheric artwork. Not that you need reminding – the sparkly blue sea is in full view. 

If you’re not admiring the view with a cup of coffee or curled up in the conservatory with a good book, you’ll love spending your mornings in the sunny garden. Gather around the outdoor table for a hearty breakfast, letting the morning drift into the afternoon while you unwind on the sun loungers. 

If you get itchy feet, there are plenty of ways to fill your days. When you’re not relaxing on the beach, you can find a spot for surfing, paragliding, kite surfing, and more. West Sussex is full of fun watersport activities, or you can explore Selsey and the nearby towns on land. After a fun-filled day, be sure not to miss the sun dip into the English Channel at dusk. 

Channelling the Sea

Cosy and compact yet still packing a punch, this contemporary cabin is ideal for a romantic retreat for two. Inside, you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay, while outdoors, you can relax around the firepit after a day of exploration. With views across the Swanage countryside to the beach, you’ll soon be eager to explore. Head to the coast to enjoy dolphin spotting, wildlife watching, or a walk along the South West Coast Path, or hop on the historic Swanage Railway for a six-mile trip through picturesque countryside. 

Dorset Serenity

A timber cabin surrounded by meadows and woodland might sound like a back-to-basics retreat, but at this home in rural Sussex, guests will have a wealth of luxuries at their disposal.

This is before you've even entered the home, as well. Out on the decked terrace, there's a hot tub from which you can enjoy the tranquillity of the local area, as well as a sofa and swing seat. When the sun goes down, there are festoon lights to turn on, plus a charcoal barbecue and fire pit to keep you fed and warm.

If the temperature dips a little too low, there's a wood-burning fireplace inside the home, as well as plenty of cosy blankets and board games. Inside, the design is rustic in places, as with the weathered wood dining table, but the sleek black kitchen and stylish bedrooms are nothing but modern.

When it comes to filling up your itinerary, there's so much to see and do nearby. The sprawling South Downs National Park starts a minute's drive to the north, while the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sits a similar amount of time in the opposite direction. The town of Bognor Regis and its beach can be reached in twenty-five minutes.




Teddy Bear's Picnic

Modern-day Gatsbys should feel right at home at this glorious art-deco manor. You'll find it in the south of the Isle of Wight, with an unbeatable clifftop location and extraordinary views down to the wind-whipped coastline. It has a number of striking original features including ornate stained-glass windows, period lampshades, a grand spiral staircase, polished wood panelling - and even an old boot cleaner. Throw a 1920s-style party in the dining room (the table seats 22) with drinks until dawn before retiring to your lavishly appointed bedroom. Go outside and you'll find things are just as spectacular, thanks to the shimmering water feature, glamorous terrace and immaculately landscaped garden. And if you run out of champagne don't fear, you're only a short walk from the shops and restaurants in lively Shanklin. 

The Colour of Glass

Come for the countryside, stay for the drama. Set in the sprawling Wiltshire estate that once belonged to the twelfth Earl of Shaftesbury, this former riding house exudes the spirit of the original stables thanks to a meticulous restoration – modern comforts meet ancient artefacts and authenticity. It's one of those homes that takes your breath away from the second you open the front door. The owners have made no effort to cover up the fact it's from a bygone era – and that's why we love it, true to the past with period artwork, original features, beamed ceilings, even a banqueting hall for grand feasts (which feels very extravagant when you're having your cereal). The velvet furnishings and exposed brick only add to the step back in time. An honesty bar is housed in a secret cupboard by the billiard table, and there are floor-to-ceiling bookshelves where you can select a novel to lose yourself in. Each bedroom comes with a luxurious roll-top bath, and the wooden dividers that once separated horses have been cleverly repurposed to create privacy screens. Outside, vast acres of the manor's parkland are yours to explore, so remember to bring your welly boots. This home is a fine example of outstanding restoration – countryside lovers may never want to leave.

The Riding House

With an outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, and a games room, this countryside home has plenty to shout about. Located in the picturesque village of Hascombe, surrounded by hills and woodlands, you’re perfectly placed for hiking and birdwatching here. And while you’ll benefit from the rural location, when you want to stock up on supplies, the town of Godalming is just a ten-minute drive away. After a day exploring the surrounding villages, you’ll find plenty of sofa space in the two living rooms for relaxing. Or you can tuck into a sociable meal around the dining table, while enjoying countryside views. We think this home is a great choice for a memorable group getaway with family or friends.
