Two of the things that the Kent town of Deal is most famous for is its castle and stretch of pebbly coastline. As it happens, both of these things are visible through the big bay window in the lounge of this apartment. Back inside, the decor is simple, but every aspect has been executed so well. Wooden floorboards and white walls provide a classy backdrop against which colourful furnishings and photographic artwork pop off. The kitchen is pretty large considering the address is only for two, so you'll be able to flex your culinary muscles with no trouble. The presence of a bathtub is also sure to be appreciated after a long day frolicking about on the beach, which sits at the end of the street. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance, too.

Taking up the two floors of a Victorian townhouse, this home has a lovely view of Deal Castle out through the window. Inside, there's plenty to hold your attention, too. The white walls and wooden floorboards work very well with the ample amounts of natural light that come in through the windows on either side of the long, open living space. There's a charming collection of nautical-themed pieces of artwork and trinkets dotted about the space, as well as a pair of bathtubs that are sure to tempt you upon coming back through the front door after a long day exploring this quaint seaside town. The pier is eight minutes' walk along the pebbly beach and you'll spot some of the wide array of restaurants and pubs that Deal has to offer along the way.

There's bucket loads of character at this historic home in Deal's pretty Middle Street Conservation Area. Set along a row of pastel-coloured terraced houses, this unique space was once an Ale House, and thanks to its Grade II-listed status, it has maintained plenty of its original features including exposed brick chimney breasts, beamed ceilings and a charming façade with gold leaf signage. Inside, a quirky layout awaits with two separate buildings connected by a central courtyard and a Moroccan-tiled hallway, with two bedrooms in the main house and the living area and a further bedroom in the mezzanine building. It’s a brilliant home for families as the kids will love the multiple levels, the playful attic bedroom and the comfy sofas to curl up on for movie nights. Georgian features mixed with colourful vintage details make it a cheery space to come home to after fun at the beach or days exploring the coast (a five-minute stroll away), and when you’re not out tasting the fresh fish and seafood on offer at one of the nearby restaurants, the cottage-style kitchen and dining room are great for gathering around for meals at the old oak table. Little ones will enjoy sharing the bunk beds in the third bedroom, while we’re certain grow-ups will relish a soak in the tub – perhaps with a glass of wine – after a busy day spent on the coast.

We think the host of this home quite clearly has an eye for design. Inside, the living room has been painted a bold shade of teal and the walls have been adorned with an arty selection of colourful prints. Add to this a couple of antique furnishings and a collection of quirky mementoes peppered about the shelves, and you have a lively space that would liven up any Instagram grid. The rest of the home is far simpler in design, although finished to the same high standard — the marble bathroom comes with both a rainfall shower or a bathtub, for instance. The Deal seafront sits two mintues' walk around the corner, while the town's striking circular castle can be reached in seven on foot. Further afield, the White Cliffs of Dover are just over twenty-five minutes away in the car.

We love this home's thoughtful interior, but it's the delightful roof terrace that's stolen our hearts. The whitewashed walls and beach chairs might not be what you expect from an English getaway, but this is the seaside after all. 

This cottage is so tucked away on a lovely quiet road that you might forget you're just steps away from Deal's buzzing promenade. It's easy to embrace the artsy vibe of this buzzing town – take walks along the pier, explore the craft shops, pick up local goods in the delis, and enjoy a craft beer in the pubs. Deal is wonderful, but this charming part of Kent has lots to offer – the coastal towns of Walmer and Kingsdown are within easy reach and the historic city of Canterbury is well worth the visit, as is Sandwich. 

However you spend your days, you'll love coming home to your quaint cottage. Whether you're soaking up the last of the sun and enjoying a barbecue on the terrace, tucking into family meals around the dining table, or catching up on your book on the plush sofa, it's easy to make this warm space feel like home.

Tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac in Deal's conservation area, this studio is one for the artists. Belonging to Steve Thomas, who created Big Biba and was Sir Paul McCartney’s personal designer, the walls are adorned with Steve's work. Bold and inspiring, it's also cosy for a stay along Kent's coast. The beach and pier are only minutes away on foot, with The Royal St George's Golf Club a short drive from your front door. Though there is no garden, you can always sit out in front of the studio and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

If chocolate box-cute cottages, colourful bunting and traditional boozers do it for you, then a stay in Deal is going to tick all your boxes. Set one street back from the sea - and a five-minute walk to the pier - this converted loft is a romantic bolthole in the heart of the Kent town. It's undeniably small, but good things come in little packages here: with a black metal bed, cosy two-seater sofa, and kitchen all brightened by sunshine from the skylights. There's some Riviera chic in there too; we love the aqua marine bathroom, with a deep tub for soaking, while in the lounge reclaimed wooden furniture and French posters sing of the sea. For sunny days, Deal's beach is a two-minute skip, as are the adorable pubs and restaurants.

Located in the idyllic village of Kingsdown, this home offers up to eight guests the opportunity to escape to the Kentish coast for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. You couldn't be better placed for long walks along the shingle beach with your furry pal – best ended at the dog-friendly Zetland Arms. The interior has been lovingly renovated by your hosts. Every element of this quaint cottage has been designed with you in mind. The highlight of the home is undoubtedly the open kitchen/dining room that looks out onto the garden. Where better to come for culinary inspiration than the 'garden of England'? With splendidly high ceilings, cosy bedrooms and picturesque sea views – what more could you want from a relaxing trip to the coast? 
If you feel the urge to explore further afield, you're just a short drive from the coastal town of Deal with an abundance of beaches and beautiful walks in between, while Folkestone entices visitors with its thriving artist community and a unique selection of independent shops, approximately half an hour's drive away.

This charming home was once a favourite pub for weary fishermen at the end of their shift, right on the pebbles of Kingsdown Beach. If you fancy a real ale or cold pint after a day on the beach, don’t worry, the current local pub is just two doors down. If you want a bit more choice, head to the seafood restaurants and swanky bars of Deal, an hour’s walk along the seaside promenade, or an eight-minute drive.

The home itself is packed with little treats and surprises. There’s the beachside garden out the back, where you can pad barefoot from the outdoor dining terrace straight onto the shingle of Kingsdown Beach for a paddle in the sea. Then there’s the secret sauna, tucked down an old alleyway. The pretty little sunroom is furnished with floral armchairs and a vintage-style radio to listen to the Shipping Forecast while gazing out to sea. We love the kitchen and living room, which is packed with vintage pieces and has the air of an old fisherman’s cottage. Poking about through the extensive vinyl collection and browsing the cookbooks is a particular delight.

Nestled among a cluster of fisherman’s cottages a minute’s walk from Kingsdown Beach, this cosy home is perfect for a family holiday at the coast. Inside, shades of blue and nautical touches are a nod to the nearby sea, while a hand-picked selection of shabby chic furniture adds warmth to the abode. Begin your mornings with brunch around the dining table in the open-plan living area or dine alfresco if the sun’s out. Once the plates are cleared away, sprint down to the pebbled shores for an afternoon of paddling and long walks by the water’s edge. Follow the coastal path for fifty minutes to the pretty town of Deal, where a contemporary art scene and superb collection of bars and eateries draw a cool, local crowd. When the day draws to a close, head back home for mugs of hot tea in the inviting living room – fire up the wood-burner to make it extra cosy.

Mornings here begin with breakfast in the sunroom, tucking into produce from the farm shop in Walmer, while typical Sundays involve bracing dips in the sea and giant roast dinners around the ten-seater dining table. A garden calls for barbecues and picnics when the weather’s right and the bedrooms’ balconies offer quiet moments to watch the tide come in over the horizon. If exploring is on the agenda, Dover is a fifteen-minute drive south and trendy Deal takes no more than ten, due north – you could walk it in just over an hour if you fancy stretching your legs.

With so much to discover about the rich history and nature of Kent, it would make sense to base yourself in a somewhat historic setting. A twelve-minute walk from Martin Mill train station, in a tiny village of the same name, this home is not only ideal for history buffs, but anyone who is a fan of a tipple. Built in 1610, this traditional boozer hosts locals every evening, but can also play host to four guests in its private apartment. Above this working pub, pick up a pint of English ale to sample before making your way around this striking abode. You’ll find rich leather sofas, vintage upholstered armchairs, a gramophone, Persian rugs, and cabinets and shelves full of curios. A truly unique stay, this home really transports you back hundreds of years, steeped in British tradition and exactly the eclectic vibe you’d hope for. Finish your pint in the back garden, with its picnic benches and lush lawns, where you'll probably find yourself chatting to one of the regulars. Surrounded by a beautiful leafy garden, you’ll feel perfectly secluded as you enjoy sunny breakfasts at the outdoor table or celebratory sundowners as the breeze carries birdsong and the perfume of flowers all around you. Set on a sleepy shingle shore on the Kent coast, this modern seaside home is calming and generous. Everyone gets space to breathe over four floors, with outdoor areas and balconies, cinema and games rooms, and en-suite bathrooms (almost) for all. In summer, the beach on the doorstep blooms into a stony carpet of wildflowers. At low tide you can explore rock pools, on clear days you can see France, and on Saturdays, you can cycle an easy fifteen minutes to Deal market for fresh flowers, coffee and a treat or two. There are also three nearby pubs (with the Zetland Arms located right on the beach). Stay put on cooler days with board games, toasty underfloor heating and listen to the sound of the sea or the integrated Sonos speaker system.

Have you ever had a bath under the watchful eye of an albino lioness? Well, us neither, but that's about to change because we can't wait to book a stay at this outlandish beachside home. Once inside you'll find it hard to believe this was once a 19th-century fisherman's cottage - the owners have done an extraordinary job transforming in into an East London-style design palace with statement House of Hackney-style wallpaper, taxidermy animals, sculptural lighting and artwork that you'd expect to see in the Saatchi Gallery (we're talking Tracy Emin and Peter Blake originals). But for all the provocative design choices, this home is wonderfully liveable - style has certainly not been prioritised over comfort. In the bedrooms, King-sized beds are perfected with exceptional Egyptian cotton bedding. In the living room, we loved the butter softness of the velvet sofas - they're an absolute dream to relax on. And that zinc bathtub next to the lioness guarantees the most luxurious - and memorable - soak of your life. With so much going on inside it's easy to forget that this home has an unrivalled location right on the beach at Kingsdown (the sea views from the master bedroom are divine), but for an unforgettable beach escape, this dramatic home is impossible to beat.
