Enjoy day after day by the seaside with this contemporary beach home, boasting stunning views of the North Sea. There's so much to like here – the northern coast means you get sunset and sunrise on the water, there are plenty of areas to spread out and socialise, including a patio with a barbecue, and the location couldn't be much better, either. The town is a short stroll away, so you won't need to worry about running out of suncream, and Herne Bay is also excellently located for exploring Kent – you'll find Whitstable a few miles west, to the south is Canterbury, and to the east is Margate, all model day trip destinations.

This home in the seaside town of Herne Bay is the perfect getaway for beach holidays, whether the sun is shining or whether you’re caught in the British rain. We would love to start our mornings here with a fresh coffee from the pod machine and enjoy it alfresco on the outdoor decking, breathing in the salty sea air for an invigorating wake-up call. 

Then wander ten minutes to the seafront and pier to spend the day beside the sea. Or if the rain is pouring and you would rather stay cosy inside, why not grab your holiday reading and settle down in the loft-converted lounge space, which even offers incredible sea views?

In the evening, dine on fish and chips on the seafront, fire up the barbecue on sunny evenings and enjoy a family cook-out, or even sit back and relax in the garden while a private chef takes care of everything. Then, unwind, and relax in the soothing bubbles of the hot tub, with a glass of wine in hand, for the ideal end to the day.

With coastal walks on your doorstep, a slipway next door ideal for sailing, and Whitstable just a 2-mile drive west, you couldn't ask for a better location. But there's plenty to enjoy here besides the beachfront position. The hot tub is the definition of relaxing, made even better by its sea views. Indoors, a ground-floor bedroom is ideal for older group members, while the bunk bed upstairs is perfect for little ones. For a family getaway right by the sea, this home is a fuss-free option.

Quite fittingly for a home around five minutes' walk from Herne Bay's coastline, this home is slightly reminiscent of a beach shack. Admittedly, it's a lot bigger than the much-coveted huts you'll see in the local area, but the weathered timber around the fireplace, the bright white walls and the large double doors that open up to let the sea air blow through the space help create the laidback feel. Outside, there's a small yard complete with a picnic table for when you fancy an alfresco supper, but there are several seafront restaurants on Central Parade a couple of minutes away on foot, as well as plenty more on the High Street in the other direction. A lovely walking route through The Downs starts five minutes' walk from the front door, too.

This striking beachfront home was designed by its artist-owner. It boasts expansive views of the North Sea – it’s just 300 metres from a stretch of coastline popular with walkers, cyclists, and swimmers, after all. There’s plenty of outside space where you can breathe in the sea air, with gardens at the front and back of the house and a balcony. Underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove keep things cosy in winter, and there’s a delightful hidden bathtub if you fancy a soak in warmer waters than the North Sea. This charming home is close to the Victorian seaside town of Herne Bay, a splendid spot for fish and chips on the beach.

This former fisherman's cottage has been given a new lease of life as a charming holiday home. Best suited to a couple and up to three kids, it's the perfect place to begin your adventures in the wonderful town of Whitstable. 

Step inside, and you'll feel instantly at home thanks to the cosy furnishings and warm colour scheme. There are quirky details dotted throughout the house – look out for the sweet octopus sketch, patterned tiles, and carefully curated antique pieces. On chilly evenings, you can light up the wood-burner and enjoy a home-cooked dinner of local seafood. Or, when the sun shines, head out to the courtyard and fire up the barbeque for a delicious grilled feast. 

From here, Whitstable Beach is just a five-minute stroll away, where you can paddle in the water and soak up the Kentish sunshine. There are plenty of quaint pubs and tasty restaurants to try – make sure you don't leave without tasting the town's delicacy, fresh oysters. And, if you fancy doing something a bit different, head to the Wildart Trail, a woodland walk adorned with sculptures – it's a fourteen-minute drive away.

It’s rare that a house in Whitstable has a garden this big, but that’s the bonus of being on the outskirts of town. True to any seaside sanctuary, there are deck chairs in the garden to soak up the sun and outdoor dining set up on rattan furniture. A big lawn allows kids to run free. 

Inside, the social space is huge. A mezzanine balcony and double-height ceiling in the open-plan living area created a sense of space and we love the boho and scandi-chic seating for all the family. A breakfast bar and kitchen island of raw wood mean there’s oodles of prep space and dining is at a rustic wooden table with bench-style seating. Bedrooms are massive, and kids will love the higglety pigglety layout of single beds secreted away beneath eaves and on mezzanine levels.

You’re on the outskirts of Whitstable, a twenty-minute walk (or five-minute drive) from the seafront where beach huts line the sand and fishing boats bob in the harbour. Here you’ll find plenty to see and do with fish and chip restaurants and ice cream shops galore. Outdoorsy types should hit the Crab and Winkle Cycle Way, right from the home’s doorstep.

Minutes from the sea, this stylish house is the perfect base for a family holiday in Whitstable. The seafront is lined with beachy cafés, seafood restaurants and good old fashioned fish and chip shops. Build sandcastles and paddle in the sea knowing it’s just a three-minute walk back to this home if you forget the sunscreen. The home itself is pristine white with cosy furnishings. The snug living room is set around a wood-burner and there’s an ample vinyl collection if you want to set the mood with the record player. There are board games a-plenty and books for all ages scattered across the bookshelves. The breakfasting kitchen is big and bright, with glass doors that fold back to reveal the cute back garden where a picnic bench is brightened by stringed lights at night. Our favourite thing about this place is the claw-footed tub, perfect for a bath after a day on the beach.

Grab the home's paddleboard and two-person kayak and head for the sea, or try beachcombing for seashells - the coast goes on for miles. And you can always pop back to rustle up a picnic when tummies start to rumble or stroll along to the acclaimed Sportsman pub to feast on oysters. Back at the sea-facing chalet bungalow, an effortlessly stylish home awaits. Expect vintage mid-century furniture, unique artwork, and a modern kitchen made for action. Ideal for groups of friends and family coming together, you’ll love how spread out the home feels. On the ground floor, there's a cosy sitting room, plus a large open-plan kitchen and dining room that opens out onto a pretty cottage garden via retractable bifold doors, creating a large sociable space that spans inside and out. Head upstairs and you'll catch tantalising glimpses of the sea from the bedrooms on the first and second floors.

Wander less than five minutes from your front door, and you'll find yourself on Whitstable's High Street, lined with cool coffee shops, independent boutiques and sumptuous restaurants, some of which have been serving seafood for over 150 years.

Enjoy safe bathing and sunset promenades along Tankerton's Blue Flag beach, a little over a mile away, while the historic city of Canterbury is just 7 miles away. Further east along the coast, the likes of Margate and Ramsgate offer burgeoning culinary and creative scenes set against a backdrop of endless sandy beaches and Victorian-era tidal pools, approximately half an hour away.

Spread over three floors, this central Canterbury home offers up ample space for you to all relax between trips around the city. We love the largely minimalist design of the home, ensuring it's a great spot for uncluttering minds. In the large main bedroom, the two skylights are a nice touch. Next door you'll find a historic pub, which might cause a bit of disruption at night – that said, if you choose to visit you won't need to worry about finding your way home. You're also just a short walk from several parks and Canterbury's museums and cathedral.

From its stained glass entryway to its wood floors, crystal chandeliers and tall ceilings with their decorative mouldings, this home is as luxurious as it is welcoming. 

We love the living room’s cosy coal-effect gas fireplace and the kitchen’s terracotta floors, while the conservatory beckons sunny breakfasts before making your way out into the garden. A calm and serene space framed by leafy plants, this is the ideal spot for quiet reading while catching some rays and celebrating evenings over an aperitif or two.

The bedrooms, meanwhile, are the definition of boudoir chic, boasting window seats giving way to sea views and a telescope in the main bedroom to let you watch the roll of the waves up close. 

Speaking of getting a better look at the coast, walk just four minutes to Tankerton Beach or stroll along the water’s edge until you reach Whitstable Castle, nine minutes away. With original features blending with elegant yet characterful furnishings, you’ll feel completely at home here after a busy day strolling the quaint streets of Canterbury. Situated in the heart of the city down a tranquil lane, with the countryside and coast within a thirty-minute drive, you really have the best of all worlds here.

An eclectic mix of nautical touches and quirky artwork makes the home a fittingly cheery and colourful space while a selection of tempting sweets line the shelf of your very own little candy store. With Whitstable seafront a five-minute walk away, salty sea air greets you at the front door and neighbouring pastel-coloured side streets are replete with independent shops and places to eat. Oysters, the town's specialty, are a must-try while you’re here. In the summer you can swim at high tide before lunching in the quiet of the cottage garden. During the winter, warm up by the log fire after rosy-cheeked walks alongside the pebbled coastline - just how life by the sea should be.

From its ideal location (only a four-minute stroll from the historic city centre) to its characterful interiors that make for an aesthetically pleasing stay – you'll soon settle in here. While the quirky spiral staircase may not be suited to young children or those with limited mobility, it certainly adds to the home's charms. Meanwhile, this spot gets extra points from us for its cute patio terrace, which provides the perfect setting for perching with a cup of tea after a day of wandering around the ancient city of Canterbury.

If you're dreaming of a coastal getaway, this stylish house in Whitstable is a good starting point for two couples or small families. Within walking distance of Tankerton Beach, Whitstable Castle and the town centre, it gets a big thumbs-up on location. You'll also find the Harbour Market nearby, where you can really embrace the laidback seaside atmosphere. And though the postcode first caught our attention, we also appreciate that the home is well-kept, bold and modern. The rooms may not be the biggest, but they are comfortable, and the living space's layout means maximum socialising.

This charming 16th-century farmhouse is best suited for families. Spread over three floors, this home may not be the best choice for guests who struggle with stairs, but you can't get much better for peace and quiet. The extensive gardens, pool table and hot tub are great for ensuring fun for both kids and grown-ups. For an extra layer of luxury, your host offers in-house spa treatments, dinner party catering and wine tastings. The driveway is shared with the house's owner next door, so you're ensured easy correspondence throughout your stay. 

Fairytail at Perry Farmhouse

A 200-year-old cottage just minutes away from the city centre, this compact home is an ideal bolthole for couples or solo travellers looking to make the most out of Caterbury’s sights. The Dane John Gardens are around the corner and the cathedral is close enough that you can see its towers from the windows here. While there’s no lounge area, you’ll find a desk and a generously-sized bed upstairs, and the well-equipped kitchen is a plus for those looking to enjoy homecooked meals between sampling the city’s food scene.

Once the post office of this quaint village, a hot tub, outdoor seating, and spacious gardens make this home a great spot for a countryside getaway. With all its bedrooms on the first floor, guests who need help with stairs may wish to look elsewhere. But for a big family holiday, you'll find space for up to eight adults, two children, and two pets. The village of Dargate is tiny enough that you can enjoy the peace and quiet, with a friendly pub and Michelin-star restaurant a short stroll away. An easy drive into Canterbury or up to Tankerton beach means some fantastic days out, too.

Located in the picturesque village of Ash, this farmhouse is a gorgeous escape, best suited for a large family or a group of friends who love the Kent countryside. The architecture hasn't changed much since the house was built well over a century ago, and you can still see a variety of period features, even though the home has recently undergone a careful refurbishment. This is most obvious in the homey kitchen with its hanging pots and pans, supported by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, as well as the antique fireplace in the living room. Thanks to the size of the garden, everyone can find their little spot and relax alone, or get together for an alfresco meal freshly cooked on the barbecue. But our favourite space has to be the library, where you can browse the host's wide collection of titles and pretend you're the Lord or Lady of the manor. There's a local pub just a few minutes away if you're in need of refreshment, along with a village shop. Plus, with the medieval town of Sandwich just a ten-minute drive away, along with a nearby golf course and wildlife park, there's plenty to entertain the whole family.

If a sea view is what you're after, this home will not disappoint. Perched on a clifftop in Birchington-on-Sea, the coastal scenery can be admired from most of the rooms. Our favourite viewpoint is the conservatory – we can't think of a better spot to enjoy a cup of tea and watch the tide roll in. Outside, the fuss-free garden offers space for kids and pups to let loose. Ready to explore? Birchington has two tidal shores that are ideal for walking and rockpooling. For a proper day at the beach, we suggest heading over to Margate, just 4 miles away.

One of the main advantages of having the ground-floor apartment is ready access to a garden and this Whitstable home doesn't let down on that front. Throw open the large glass doors in the living room and you'll find a cute little outdoor space, complete with a patio and seating for soaking up the sunshine in the warmer months. Back inside, there's a lovely use of boldly coloured tiles, from the instantly uplifting orange in the kitchen to the patterned blue ones in the master bathroom. This is a testament to the host's attention to detail when it comes to interior design, which can also be witnessed in the master bedroom — here, we'd like to single out the copper bed frame and the industrial-chic metal storage unit for praise. Once you've nodded appreciatively at what lies behind this home's front door, you can head out to explore. Whitstable Beach is no more than five minutes' walk away and the host has been kind enough to provide beach towels and equipment for guests to use. There's also a huge array of seafood restaurants, welcoming pubs and galleries along the High Street, which sits just at the end of your road.


Magic Eight

Set within the medieval city walls of Canterbury and just a two-minute jaunt from the bustling cobbled High Street, the location of this cosy Victorian terrace home is bang-on. An excellent option for a family break in the cathedral city, there’s a bunkbed room which kids will love connected to the king-sized bedroom – handy if you’ve got little ones waking in the night. While the kitchen may be a little dated and small for some, it’s well-equipped for its size. And that suntrap terrace for morning cuppas more than makes up for it.

If you’re looking for a unique stay in the heart of Whitstable, this cosy shepherd’s hut is just the ticket. It’s a compact space that’s best suited to two guests, but two children can share the trundle day bed in the living area if you’re wishing to travel as a family. Due to the size of the home, the kitchenette is appropriately petite, but you’ll find plenty of restaurants nearby. And though this home is located to the back of the owner’s garden, you’ll have a private entrance and your own outdoor space – ideal for morning coffees in the sun before heading out for a day at the nearby beach. 

The Old Shipyard

Style meets comfort in this wonderfully located apartment in Margate. Designed in a chic, boutique-style manner, the whole space feels brilliantly modern while retaining a sense of vintage charm that so aptly reflects Margate’s seaside fame. We love the bright living room with its large windows that provide the most spectacular sunset views across the Winter Gardens and out towards the sea, best enjoyed on the sofa with a glass of wine or through the handy telescope provided. Full of fun decorative details that subtly nod to the coast, this space is made for relaxation and easy-going socialising. Our other favourite spot for sea-sighting is in the beautiful master bedroom where an armchair invites you to curl up on it with a good book and enjoy the rolling of the waves from yet another angle. Factor in the sunny kitchen and the sparkling blue and white bathroom and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful coastal break. Outside of your home, you’re just a six-minute walk from the Turner Contemporary art gallery, an eight-minute stroll from the Main Sands beach, while the Dreamland Margate amusement park is fifteen minutes on foot from your door.

A Grade-II listed, 16th Century townhouse located in the historic city of Canterbury, this home is a perfect base for a couple or solo traveller. Spread across three levels, there is everything you need to guarantee a comfortable stay, including a private terrace furnished with a table and chairs. While the kitchen is fully equipped, if you’d prefer to eat out, you’re conveniently within walking distance of restaurants, bars and cafes. And for day trips in and around Kent, Canterbury West Station is a five-minute walk away.

It's not just the mid-century furniture and muted colour palette in this home that takes influence from the Scandinavians. Out in the garden, there's an electric-powered sauna, as well as a bathtub on the patio that you can fill with cold water for the full authentic experience. Once you've finished flitting between the two, you can rest up in the cosy summer house. The host has put together a list of local therapists and this private space is perfect for treatments. Back inside, there's plenty of equipment to keep those particular about their coffee happy, including an espresso machine, milk frother, percolator, grinder and fresh beans from a local roaster. When you're feeling suitably caffeinated, the charming seaside town of Margate is waiting to be explored. The main beach takes about a quarter of an hour to reach on foot, as does the Dreamland Amusement Park, which often hosts concerts, club nights and events.

Let’s face it – it’s that ginormous indoor private pool and state-of-the-art Swedish sauna taking all the limelight at this barn conversion property, and rightly so. It’s a luxury few expect for a home nestled away in the quiet Kent countryside. In warmer months, slide the bifold doors right back to let the sunshine in and enjoy views of the pristinely manicured gardens beyond. You could easily while away the whole day – in fact, the entire week - padding between the pool, sauna, and outdoor sun loungers, with an occasional barbecue thrown in, to spice things up. And there are more welcome surprises inside this home too. The spacious light-filled lounge and dining area overlooks the swimming pool – handy for keeping an eye on poolside antics even when you’re indoors. And upstairs, there’s a secondary lounge with Juliet balcony doors revealing views of the gardens and distant rolling fields. With such vast countryside views, you could feel a million miles from anywhere here, but you’re not as remote as you first thought. The pretty neighbouring villages all have excellent pubs serving hearty food, and the bustling cathedral town of Canterbury is just over a twenty-minute drive away. And let’s not forget the coast - pack up a picnic, and you can be on the sweeping sandy shores of Folkestone in thirty minutes flat.
