House of Hemp is a super stylish home with a design that maximises the space. The palette of earthy colours works harmoniously with the abundance of natural fabrics, and cool light fittings smoothly blend the original cornicing with modern design. The home is situated on a busy main road, so street noise can be heard in the street-facing living room. But, the bedroom is definitely quieter and the TV makes it a great space to curl up in after a day exploring with a movie in bed. While there isn’t much storage space, one of the kitchen cupboards actually doubles up as a wardrobe.

Set on the ground floor of a restored Georgian building (Grade II listed, no less), it's a stylish, modern home with period touches like shuttered windows.

With the bedroom and en-suite at the back of the apartment, away from the road, it's a peaceful space to return to at the end of a busy day. And while the en-suite may be a bit of a squeeze for some, there is another private bathroom up half a flight of stairs – a helpful addition.

Located in a beautiful white stucco townhouse, just a three-minute walk from Angel Tube station, this studio flat is a fantastic choice for a solo traveller or couple looking for a stylish space but who don't need lots of superfluous space. Despite the lofty three-metre-high ceilings and large sash window, your host – an experienced architect and interior designer – has really put a lot of thought into the layout and decor to make the most of the compact size. No detail has been overlooked in the pursuit of perfection, and every element must earn its place. As a result, the home manages to be both a chic yet relaxing space for two people to enjoy comfortably. We loved the use of beautiful natural materials, which are mixed with a subtle and mature colour palette. A bonus is a super-smart bathroom, complete with a sumptuous bathtub – perfect for a soak at the end of a busy day exploring the pubs, indie boutiques and antiques shops that dot this corner of North London.

Combing industrial-chic, ethnic influence and attention to detail, this white stucco Islington apartment is all about the design. Soft pink hues cover the walls, and original features such as the polished wooden floorboards and exposed beams are intermingled with modern furnishings like the black metal bookshelf unit and glass coffee table. And we just love the sleek marble kitchen, complete with a sunny dining spot,  that's perfect for whipping up and enjoying home-cooked breakfasts. Come afternoon, enjoy a good book and perch on the rustic window-bench. You'll notice the giant cherry sculpture – another quirky touch that blends old and new in elegant fashion. In the bedrooms, the calming palette, soothing artwork, ethnic adornments and rattan headboard makes for a peaceful morning setting. Stroll across to the en-suite bathroom, open the charming slide and track door, and enjoy a long soak in the rainfall shower. Warm and rustic furnishings like the wooden dining bench bring yet another vintage edge, one of our favourite pieces being the rusty, red velvet sofa. And in the bedroom, the wicker bed frame looks beautifully natural against the pristine white walls and sleek wardrobes. After a peaceful slumber, your host generously provides granola for breakfast, so you can start the day with a wholesome bowl as you plan the day ahead. Head four minutes north to walk along the serene Regent’s Canal, or maybe even hitch a ride on a barge. On your way back, take a detour through Angel’s streets full of high-end restaurants, cute boutiques, and English pubs. Anyone for a pint?

Georgian London survives in this beautiful snug of a home. Sit on the Chesterfield sofa below framed tapestries, warmed by a crackling wood-burner, or stand on the Juliet balcony, sipping whiskey and gazing regally at the neighbouring terraces. Full-height windows, fur drapes and a four-poster bed further the classy feel, while cool Tom Dixon brass lights seamlessly add some modern pizzazz. Though the kitchenette is best for small meals, many excellent restaurants await nearby. We would bear in mind that the home has old walls, so it's not the quietest space.

This two-storey pad is a great spot in the cultural heart of Angel. Though there's no lift in the building, you'll be treated to a balcony and rooftop terrace, which makes the climb all the more worth it. The space is comfortable, with a modern kitchen for whipping up home-cooked meals – if the weather allows, why not tuck in on the terrace? That said, Angel’s restaurants and theatres give you plenty of reasons to go out. Plus, Angel tube station is a short walk away for easy access to London’s sights.

This apartment’s location is ideal for a stay in the centre of London. It’s a short hop on the Tube from Kings Cross Station to the nearest stop (Angel, a five-minute walk away) and an easy saunter into Shoreditch for all the pop-up restaurants, artisan shops and indie boutiques you could want. The rest of London – Covent Garden, Westminster and the South Bank – can be reached within minutes on the Tube.

One of the great benefits of this apartment is the big kitchen, which is well-stocked with all the appliances you need for self-catering. Its position in the open-plan living area means the chef of the group can always have one ear in the conversation. The living area leads onto a small balcony overlooking the street should you want to step out for a breath of air. Bedrooms are comfortable spots and the main bedroom has a laptop-friendly desk by the window should you need to work remotely.

When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. Rather pleasingly for a home for two, the cobalt kitchen has a wealth of sleek surface space for whipping up romantic dinners, while the pristinely tiled bathroom has a tub that will surely sing to you after a long day on your feet.

Perfect for sharing toast and jams in the morning, it expertly blends the living room and the kitchen. If you wanted to invite friends over for dinner, the room has a light, airy vibe that's ideal for a hosting space. 

Of course, when you're in such proximity to London's world-class restaurants, you probably want to sample them. Myriad fine eateries are right on your doorstep, or you can hop on the underground at Liverpool Street to reach Soho in a matter of minutes.

Head in the other direction and you'll find the Olympic Stadium and the beautiful park that surrounds it. Given the array of accessible public transport, you can reach the cool districts of Peckham, Hackney and Dalston in less than half an hour.

If you do fancy a day out of elegant West London, take an eight-minute walk to Hampstead tube station and explore the city with ease.

Plus, there are three tube stations within walking distance, so you'll be incredibly well-connected to the rest of the city.

Start mornings off by making a cup of coffee in the beautiful marble-accented kitchen, then kick back on the sofa while taking in the sights from the living room’s wall of windows. When you’re ready to explore, Covent Garden is just a five-minute walk away while Waterloo Bridge is right around the corner giving you easy access to Southbank’s exciting entertainment options. After a day of sightseeing, come back home for a long soak in the tub (the bathroom has underfloor heating for added cosiness) before sitting down for an intimate meal at home. Alternatively, head back out to discover London’s vibrant food and nightlife scenes, with plenty of restaurants and bars right of your front step. Charles Dickens Museum is a mere four-minute stroll, while the British Museum is just over ten minutes on foot. Top-ranking universities, such as the London School of Economics and Political Science, University College London and King's College, are all under a twenty-minute walk, as is the London Stock Exchange, Covent Garden and St. Paul's Cathedral. Or if you fancy an evening at the theatre, the West End is just over a twenty-minute saunter. Of course, there are plenty of fine restaurants and bars right on your doorstep. Set in a traditional English mews, this place has a chic industrial style. We love the large windows that let light flood in, as well as the engineered oak floors. We were really surprised by how quiet this abode is, given its locale. This home also has that oh so rare outdoor space – the balcony is ideal for having a pre-dinner glass of Champagne. There are various laptop areas for studying or working here too. Perfect for corporate guests, students, small families or friends looking to get the most out of London, this home really delivers.

We love the main room’s loading doors that open up onto a balcony and the steel desk that will make working from home a treat. The kitchen, too, is a masterclass in industrial chic with its AGA Rangemaster double oven, wine cabinet and sleek stainless steel countertops. The bedroom, meanwhile, is calm and understated with a detailed wood headboard and artistic prints adding pops of colour. While we won’t blame you for wanting to chill out in your city pad all day long, there’s plenty of entertainment to be had right outside your door. Walk to lively Shoreditch in fifteen minutes, sample Brick Lane’s world cuisine (twenty minutes away on foot) or stay local in Hoxton to discover its countless boutiques, bars and restaurants.
