Though it's still roomy enough for six, we think this works best for a small family or two couples. If you do choose to sleep two additional guests on the sofa bed, you can always find extra breathing room on the terrace. It overlooks neighbours and isn't the most private, but it is a nice bonus – especially in central London.

This has got to be one of the most amazing views in London. Moored near Tower Bridge on the Thames’ south bank, this stunning home is the former 'HMS Harpy’. Once an Edwardian base for customs and excise officers, and a landing stage for King George V, it’s now a unique and beautifully maintained floating home. The oldest and one of the largest homes on the river, The Harpy is unlike purpose-built houseboats – all the cabins are above water level with river views. History fans and nautical nuts will have plenty to get their teeth into, those interested in luxury river living will appreciate the opportunity to sit out on deck, and if vintage furniture is your thing you'll be able to explore pieces from the 1920s, '30s, and '50s. The dining table was even designed for Winston Churchill's home, Chartwell. We love the vast living space on the upper deck – it's bright, comfortable, and full of character. Bedrooms and bathrooms are nostalgic and the kitchen is well fitted out for cooking onboard. There's mains electricity, obviously, as well as mains gas for heating and cooking, and filtered mains water. All the mod cons are present too, from Wifi and Sky Q TV to gate entry phones and Sonos. So well-known that it's been featured in several movies (most notably A Fish Called Wanda), a stay here is an all-round incredible experience and one you'll be talking about for years to come.

Superbly located for a London break, this apartment is in a boutique development in Bermondsey. It overlooks a church and gardens on a quiet leafy street, close to restaurants, galleries, and transport links – you only need to walk two minutes to hop on the Jubilee line. It’s a modern home-from-home, comfortable and convenient. We love the floor-to-ceiling windows in the open-plan living and dining space, which leads to an integrated kitchen. There’s a desk for those working remotely. This is an adults-only home.

Bright, well-appointed and just footsteps from eateries, bars and art galleries, this Southwark apartment is an ideal choice for families or a couple of friends. For those keen to tick off the city’s most famous sights, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London are a twenty-minute walk away. This unique penthouse was the top floor of a chamois leather factory in the 1900s. It’s now been converted into a quirky home-from-home in London, in an excellent location just off Bermondsey Street. The Tower of London is just across the river, and London Bridge station is a short walk away. The apartment boasts double-height ceilings, exposed brick and beams, and large windows that look out over London rooftops. Look out for the original winch that hoisted the leathers up to the third floor. While four guests can be accommodated here – with two sleeping on the sofa bed – we think it’s a more comfortable base for two.

Set opposite leafy Southwark Park, this home might feel like a secluded, albeit ultra luxurious, treehouse, but it’s actually located in a central area of buzzing London. The very definition of the phrase ‘best of both worlds’, this home puts you within very close distance to tourist attractions without compromising on the tranquillity of the space. When you’re after a bit of R&R, sink into the sofa with a good book, or meditate out on the balcony. Roll out your mat in the lounge after you’ve opened the bi-fold doors and practice yoga with only the rustling leaves and twittering birds for company. 

Zipping around London is easily done by public transport or taxi and it shouldn’t take you more than twenty minutes to get to some of the best spots. See the Tower of London, or watch the guard change at Buckingham Palace. If you’re in the mood for some more luxury, cruise down the Thames with a glass of champagne. There are also plenty of galleries, museums, and restaurants to be enjoyed, but don’t forget to head down to the most quintessentially British place possible – the pub.

From here, you’ll have a wealth of shops, bars, and restaurants within easy reach, and excellent transport links to the rest of London. The apartment has a separate kitchen and a comfortable living space with large sash windows that let in a lot of light. One of the bedrooms is considerably smaller than the other, but we think it's cosy and still suitable for two guests – there's also a sofa bed for guests five and six.

The top deck has been converted into a long, open living space with views of St Katharine Docks Marina from the huge windows. We love the semi-outdoor dining room, housed in a glass atrium-style space to the rear of the ship, with seating for ten.
