When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. Rather pleasingly for a home for two, the cobalt kitchen has a wealth of sleek surface space for whipping up romantic dinners, while the pristinely tiled bathroom has a tub that will surely sing to you after a long day on your feet.

Although the surrounding neighbourhood has a welcomingly quiet residential feel, some of the UK capital's most famous sights are only a short walk away — both The British Museum and St Paul's Cathedral will take you all of twenty minutes to reach.

For those keen on the fancier things in life, you couldn't wish for a better location. The apartment itself is also pleasing. The expansive, open-plan living area is beautifully finished with parquet flooring and tasteful furnishings, while the large dining table is perfect for evening soirées. There's even an outdoor terrace, which is rare for somewhere so close to the epicentre of the UK's capital. If you want somewhere to really stretch your legs, you're close to a triumvirate of parks — Green, St James's and Hyde.

There's a well-appointed kitchen, a desk for remote working, and a bright living room that's perfect for relaxing after sightseeing.

This apartment is located right in the heart of London. Moments from Piccadilly Circus, you'll have the West End, Soho and Covent Garden at your fingertips here. Since this is a super central location, noise is likely, but being within walking distance to all the landmarks is worth the compromise. During your downtime, unwind in the open-plan living area. You'll find everything you need in the kitchen to rustle up a meal, while the table doubles as a workspace if needed. There is no lift in the building, so you'll have to climb stairs to reach the second floor.

From this traditionally-minded yet well-maintained Mayfair apartment, there's a little taste of luxury in every direction. To your east is Liberty department store and there are further designer shopping options to your north on Bond Street. Head south and in two minutes, you could be on Savile Row, while wandering further west along these embassy-lined streets will get you to Grosvenor Square. However, despite this unbeatable location, we found this home to be extremely peaceful and a welcome refuge from the non-stop going-ons of Central London. The chic kitchen was a highlight here, with smart brass finishes contrasting nicely with honeycomb marble tiling, but let's not kid ourselves — with this many renowned restaurants only a short stroll away, don't be surprised if this home's oven remains undisturbed during the duration of your stay.

Bright and functional, this long second-floor apartment is newly renovated with fresh paint, carpets and contemporary furniture. There’s a lovely dining area in the conservatory – optimistically called a ‘‘sun room’ – plus a modern kitchen, good beds, rain showers and Xbox games to play. You’ve even got your own front door, through which both Covent Garden and Somerset House are close by.

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring nearby with Oxford Street a three-minute walk, the British Museum a seven-minute stroll and both Leicester Square and Covent Garden fifteen minutes away on foot. We recommend a stroll around your neighbourhood too where you’ll spy plenty of historic blue plaque buildings, as well as a visit to the famous Fitzroy Tavern (a one-minute walk) where the likes of Nina Hamnett, Dylan Thomas and George Orwell once gathered.

Just moments away from this Mayfair home, you’ll find Regents Street with its flagship stores and award-winning restaurants. For cool art galleries, you can head to Cork Street or there are plenty of boutiques to browse on this home’s street too. Many of London’s key attractions are within walking distance  – we’re talking Buckingham Palace, Leicester Square and the British Museum. There are views out over this Mayfair street from this apartment’s large windows. If you’re looking for a more lived-in feel, we’d say this home is more minimal in its décor and furnishings. Also, at full capacity, the dining room may feel a bit cramped, but with all these eateries on your doorstep, will you be dining in much?

Step into the wizarding world at this home tucked down the narrow lane that inspired Diagon Alley. Harry Potter fans will adore the magical memorabilia scattered about – it's understated but adds to the charm. It's not the biggest home, but having four floors gives the impression of extra space. There's also a sofa bed for guests five and six, but we reckon it's a better fit for four. The street is a popular stop for tour groups, so you'll get passersby on your doorstep. But, with Covent Garden, Leicester Square, and Soho all within strolling distance, we think that’s a worthwhile trade.
