When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. Rather pleasingly for a home for two, the cobalt kitchen has a wealth of sleek surface space for whipping up romantic dinners, while the pristinely tiled bathroom has a tub that will surely sing to you after a long day on your feet.

Although the surrounding neighbourhood has a welcomingly quiet residential feel, some of the UK capital's most famous sights are only a short walk away — both The British Museum and St Paul's Cathedral will take you all of twenty minutes to reach.

With its riot of colours and marquee style letter lighting, there’s something of a carnival vibe to this converted warehouse. It’s a post-industrial loft space that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We love the tongue-in cheek detailing, from the funky ‘hair hub’ to the dog wallpaper, irreverent cushions and neon letter art. The bedrooms are sexy and sumptuous and the high-spec kitchen will satisfy even the most ardent chef. You’d be hard pushed to find a better location as well. Based in central Soho, between Dean and Wardour Street, you’re in the heart of the action the second you step out of your door. It’s not a place for those seeking a quiet getaway though - don your feather boa and get out into the non-stop Soho fiesta.

Bang in the heart of London’s shopping and entertainment district, this stylish home has so much on its doorstep it's hard to know where to start. On the lively streets below, colourful Chinatown is bursting with great places to eat, Soho's Carnaby Street (an eleven-minute walk away) is filled with independent boutiques and shops, while Covent Garden (a six-minute stroll away) offers fine dining restaurants and swanky cocktail bars. It could be you're here on a business trip, in which case you'll have good wifi and a dedicated workspace. Step into the wizarding world at this home tucked down the narrow lane that inspired Diagon Alley. Harry Potter fans will adore the magical memorabilia scattered about – it's understated but adds to the charm. It's not the biggest home, but having four floors gives the impression of extra space. There's also a sofa bed for guests five and six, but we reckon it's a better fit for four. The street is a popular stop for tour groups, so you'll get passersby on your doorstep. But, with Covent Garden, Leicester Square, and Soho all within strolling distance, we think that’s a worthwhile trade.

You'll find Goodge Street Station a short stroll away, though exploring on foot is also an option – Oxford Street, Soho, and the British Museum are just a few of the things within walking distance. Since this is a super central location, noise is likely, but being within walking distance to all the landmarks is worth the compromise. During your downtime, unwind in the open-plan living area. You'll find everything you need in the kitchen to rustle up a meal, while the table doubles as a workspace if needed. There is no lift in the building, so you'll have to climb stairs to reach the second floor.

From this traditionally-minded yet well-maintained Mayfair apartment, there's a little taste of luxury in every direction. To your east is Liberty department store and there are further designer shopping options to your north on Bond Street. Head south and in two minutes, you could be on Savile Row, while wandering further west along these embassy-lined streets will get you to Grosvenor Square. However, despite this unbeatable location, we found this home to be extremely peaceful and a welcome refuge from the non-stop going-ons of Central London. The chic kitchen was a highlight here, with smart brass finishes contrasting nicely with honeycomb marble tiling, but let's not kid ourselves — with this many renowned restaurants only a short stroll away, don't be surprised if this home's oven remains undisturbed during the duration of your stay.

This attractive home is the perfect choice for couples or a trio seeking a stylish London pad. It’s in Covent Garden, close to Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Chinatown, and the British Museum. There are excellent public transport links nearby, too, so it’s easy to see the rest of the city’s sights. The apartment boasts hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a small private roof terrace. There’s also a workspace, making this a solid option for those working remotely while in London.

While the home itself is compact, it has everything you’ll need for a fuss-free stay. At full capacity, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area, but seeing as you’ll probably spend most of your time out and about, this shouldn’t be a problem.
