This snug, east London flat has bags of charm and comfort. Located on a leafy residential street in the heart of trendy Dalston it’s a perfect base for those wanting to explore the city. A short skip to the buses and you’ll be in town in less than 20 minutes, or else it’s a 10-minute stroll to overland stations and the tube. Dalston is a lively neighbourhood with cafes, restaurants and boutique shops but happily the apartment is a haven of calm and tranquillity. Wood-panelled flooring, large windows and soothing green and white tones predominate while personal touches include a wood burner, heaving bookshelf and neat kitchen stocked with teas, herbs and spices. In the evening, clubbers can take advantage of the nightlife in nearby Hoxton and Shoreditch but the lounge is so appealing that the mood might just take you to curl up on the cosy sofa with one of the well-thumbed books instead.

Time-Turner is like a time capsule from the early twentieth century that’s just been cracked open (albeit one with very fast wi-fi). The antique furniture is beautiful, as are the vintage kitchen appliances. They’re perhaps not as intuitive as modern counterparts, but there’s so much character locked away in this flat that it hardly matters. Even the small accessories and details are all from the same era, creating a captivating, hodge-podge coherence.

Set in a period townhouse, this first-floor apartment’s good-looking interiors speak for themselves. Although the second bedroom with a Murphy pull-down bed is very compact, we think you'll forgive that when you see the all-too-rare private garden waiting outside. Add to that free weekend and evening parking (practically gold dust in London), and you’re onto a winner.

Much like the surrounding neighbourhood of Hackney, this home is cool without having to try that hard. In the main living space, every piece looks to have been carefully selected for maximum impact, from the statement light fitting and the metallic Warren Platner dining chairs to the lacquered sideboard. The bedrooms keep it simple with walls painted in neutrals and pastels, plus characterful rugs.

The home has a secret weapon and that's the back garden accessed through bi-fold doors. Out here, you'll find a set of swings for youngsters, as well as a barbecue and an alfresco table for long summer evening suppers.

If it inspires you to see more of the UK capital's green spaces, you're in an excellent position to do so. Less than five minutes' walk from your front door is London Fields, where you can go for a swim in the heated lido, play tennis or simply read on the grass. In the other direction, Dalston takes a quarter of an hour to reach and has plenty of bars, restaurants and live music venues to keep you occupied once you're there.

Behind a beautifully renovated townhouse facade lies an interior that is bright and beautiful in equal measures. The living room has the feel of a contemporary art gallery, with high ceilings, parquet flooring and striking pieces on the wall. Although saying that, we haven't been to a gallery with such cute pastel-pink, tufted furnishings. 

The kitchen is just as striking, thanks to the large windows, the flurry of house plants and handsome marble surfaces. So striking in fact, that we crowned it 'kitchen of the year' on Instagram. As well as letting in copious amounts of natural light, the French door also leads out to a charming garden space with some seating for warm evenings. 

Upstairs, the bedrooms are both large and equipped with regal beds, while there's even a balcony space looking out over the rooftops of East London and the distant skyscrapers in The City. However, you don't even have to go far to find things to do in the neighbourhood. Just around the corner, there's the Castle Cinema — an Art Deco building reopened after a local crowdfunding campaign — and Chatsworth Market, which runs every Sunday with a great range of independent stalls.

The Knowledge

When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. Rather pleasingly for a home for two, the cobalt kitchen has a wealth of sleek surface space for whipping up romantic dinners, while the pristinely tiled bathroom has a tub that will surely sing to you after a long day on your feet.

Although the surrounding neighbourhood has a welcomingly quiet residential feel, some of the UK capital's most famous sights are only a short walk away — both The British Museum and St Paul's Cathedral will take you all of twenty minutes to reach.

A little green hiding place in East London, this vintage-lovers paradise manages to mix thrift shop finds with high-end necessities. It’s a sweet spot that feels homely but certainly doesn’t scrimp on quality or comfort. You’ll be sharing the space with an impressive collection of houseplants, but that’s part of its charm. We love the well-equipped kitchen in miniature and the deep, dark blue of the Victorian bathroom, complete with a claw foot bath for taking a long soak. Pop on the Bluetooth Marshall amp or record player, and enjoy some time away from the busy streets of the capital. Outside, there’s a small but no-less-welcome terrace, which brings a tiny bit of nature into the breathable living space. Located in a lively and interesting part of the city, with the weekly Chatsworth Road Market on your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore, including a host of indy shops and eateries. And it’s only a ten-minute walk to Homerton overground station or twenty minutes to Hackney Central if you fancy seeing what else London has to offer.

Enjoy a relaxing weekend escape exploring the trendy area of East London, follow the narrow boats and the smell of hand roasted coffee through street art and beards on bicycles. Have your La La moment on the piano and enjoy the balcony.

This stylish apartment has a prestigious location in Shoreditch, in a landmark building designed by the renowned architects Foster + Partners. We love the ensuite bathroom, beautifully finished with marble. The open-plan living space is flooded with lots of natural light with large windows overlooking London. However, the absolute highlights here for us are the indoor lap pool and spa – perfect for relaxing after a busy day. There's also a residents' lounge, a state-of-the-art gym, and a cinema, so there's plenty to keep you occupied.

If all this wasn't enough, this home has a fabulous address. It's a twelve-minute walk to East London Tech City, otherwise known as Silicon Roundabout, while Spitalfields Market is a four-minute saunter. With its public gardens, bars, and restaurants, Hoxton Square is a seven-minute wander, or art lovers can head to the Barbican Arts Centre, seventeen minutes away on foot.

In the heart of Shoreditch, this industrial-chic apartment sits in a converted warehouse. Contemporary and cool, the apartment combines industrial-style charm with sleek, modern amenities. Think wooden floors, exposed brickwork, and a warehouse window. The open-plan living space is a great spot for entertaining, leading to a fully equipped kitchen. If you’d rather not cook, there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Old Street Tube station is a short walk away, and you can also stroll to Shoreditch High Street.

There’s an air of New York to this warehouse loft with its brick exterior, fire escape stairs and huge Crittall windows. Once inside though, you’ll see this pad is all East London cool. Located in hipper-than-hip Hoxton, this funky flat is full of colourful character and fascinating design elements. From its large, leather L-shaped sofa to its pendant lights and eclectic posters, this space is made for living it up and winding down, both in equal measure. We love the main room’s loading doors that open up onto a balcony and the steel desk that will make working from home a treat. The kitchen, too, is a masterclass in industrial chic with its AGA Rangemaster double oven, wine cabinet and sleek stainless steel countertops. The bedroom, meanwhile, is calm and understated with a detailed wood headboard and artistic prints adding pops of colour. While we won’t blame you for wanting to chill out in your city pad all day long, there’s plenty of entertainment to be had right outside your door. Walk to lively Shoreditch in fifteen minutes, sample Brick Lane’s world cuisine (twenty minutes away on foot) or stay local in Hoxton to discover its countless boutiques, bars and restaurants. After a long day of sightseeing, come back home for a luxurious soak under the rainfall shower, then cosy up for a movie night on the 70-inch LG TV, a glass of wine in hand.


The Ironmonger

Situated on a unique crescent-shaped street of Victorian homes – this apartment in Kings Cross is a great find. There’s an array of restaurants, bars and boutiques at nearby Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard, or have a stroll along the canal close by. The apartment itself has been featured in a variety of films and advertisements and takes its inspiration from a collection of artists and intellectuals known as the Bloomsbury Group. The highlight for us though is the pretty courtyard garden – the perfect spot for reading a book.

This beautiful Victorian home in Walthamstow is a treat for families looking to make the most of the area’s stunning nature and shop-lined streets offering a plethora of cute cafés and cosy restaurants. 

Wonderfully renovated with a keen eye for design, every inch of this home has been curated with calm relaxation in mind. We love the incredible amount of light that flows in through the living room’s bay windows, creating the perfect setting for lazy mornings on the sofa with a mug of tea and one of the many books on the shelves. 

Step through to the stylish open-plan kitchen area with its polished concrete floors and underfloor heating for an even more dazzling display of light with sunlight streaming in through the skylights and the glass doors leading out onto a private leafy garden. This is the perfect spot to enjoy sunny barbecues, lawn games and plenty of fun for little ones on the trampoline. And should the weather turn, there’s plenty to keep all ages entertained inside with toys, books and everyone’s favourite streaming services.

Snuggle up on the sofa with a glass of wine after a day of touring the city or gather around the window-side table for a homemade feast when you’re not out sampling the area’s vibrant food scene.

This is a soulful space for those after a more alternative place to stay when they're visiting the UK's capital. Part of a converted former piano factory, the interior is instantly uplifting thanks to the array of bold modern artwork, statement wallpaper and house plants dotted about. You can tell it's been put together by somebody with an artistic disposition. It's up on the second floor with views from the Juliet balconies over the rooftops of Stoke Newington, a quiet neighbourhood with a great village vibe. If you want to explore, the host has left their Dutch bike and guests are free to borrow it. Alternatively, you can rent her car, which is parked in the on-site car park. Clissold Park is only two minutes' walk up the road and is home to a small deer farm. Likewise, Church Street takes only six minutes to reach on foot and offers cosy restaurants, traditional boozers and vintage shops.
