This snug, east London flat has bags of charm and comfort. Located on a leafy residential street in the heart of trendy Dalston it’s a perfect base for those wanting to explore the city. A short skip to the buses and you’ll be in town in less than 20 minutes, or else it’s a 10-minute stroll to overland stations and the tube. Dalston is a lively neighbourhood with cafes, restaurants and boutique shops but happily the apartment is a haven of calm and tranquillity. Wood-panelled flooring, large windows and soothing green and white tones predominate while personal touches include a wood burner, heaving bookshelf and neat kitchen stocked with teas, herbs and spices. In the evening, clubbers can take advantage of the nightlife in nearby Hoxton and Shoreditch but the lounge is so appealing that the mood might just take you to curl up on the cosy sofa with one of the well-thumbed books instead.

Surrounded by characterful pubs and fine eateries, this home is nestled between the lively neighbours of Islington and Dalston. The open-plan living area has plenty of space and natural light, especially for a flat – thanks, in part, to skylights and bi-fold doors allowing sunlight to bounce off the white walls. When the weather is nice, the terraces and garden beckon, offering perfect spots for a glass of wine after exploring the city. And for the drizzly days that London is a little more known for, we can't imagine anything better than turning on the underfloor heating and curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea.

In the main living space, every piece looks to have been carefully selected for maximum impact, from the statement light fitting and the metallic Warren Platner dining chairs to the lacquered sideboard. The bedrooms keep it simple with walls painted in neutrals and pastels, plus characterful rugs.

The home has a secret weapon and that's the back garden accessed through bi-fold doors. Out here, you'll find a set of swings for youngsters, as well as a barbecue and an alfresco table for long summer evening suppers.

If it inspires you to see more of the UK capital's green spaces, you're in an excellent position to do so. Less than five minutes' walk from your front door is London Fields, where you can go for a swim in the heated lido, play tennis or simply read on the grass. This is a soulful space for those after a more alternative place to stay when they're visiting the UK's capital. Part of a converted former piano factory, the interior is instantly uplifting thanks to the array of bold modern artwork, statement wallpaper and house plants dotted about. You can tell it's been put together by somebody with an artistic disposition. It's up on the second floor with views from the Juliet balconies over the rooftops of Stoke Newington, a quiet neighbourhood with a great village vibe. If you want to explore, the host has left their Dutch bike and guests are free to borrow it. Alternatively, you can rent her car, which is parked in the on-site car park. Clissold Park is only two minutes' walk up the road and is home to a small deer farm. Likewise, Church Street takes only six minutes to reach on foot and offers cosy restaurants, traditional boozers and vintage shops.

This attractive apartment is a great choice of base in London, whether you’re in the city for business or leisure. This no-nonsense apartment in Highbury and Islington is ideal for business travellers, couples or solo visitors. Restaurants, shops and cafes line the bustling Holloway Road, only a five-minute walk away. If you’d like to head into the heart of the city, it’s twenty minutes to Tottenham Court Road via the tube. Inside, the fully equipped kitchen comes in handy for those planning an extended break, and the bedroom’s king-size bed encourages long lie-ins after busy days spent exploring London.

Back in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, this corner of East London was a thriving industrial hub, but today it's the sort of highly coveted neighbourhood where luxury flats such as this one are springing up. You can get a sense of this transformation from the home's balcony, which gives guests a view of the canal and former warehouses that have been transformed into studios, bars and nightclubs — Hackney Wick, where many of these can be found, is only twelve minutes' walk away. Back inside, the long open-concept living space benefits from the huge floor-to-ceiling window at the end, which brings in copious amounts of natural light. The blue kitchen is as sleek as they come, with stone-composite work surfaces and in-built lighting, while the underfloor heating is sure to be appreciated in the winter months, too. The cherry on the cake is the building's communal gym, which guests are free to visit should they wish.

Behind a beautifully renovated townhouse facade lies an interior that is bright and beautiful in equal measures. The living room has the feel of a contemporary art gallery, with high ceilings, parquet flooring and striking pieces on the wall. Although saying that, we haven't been to a gallery with such cute pastel-pink, tufted furnishings. 

The kitchen is just as striking, thanks to the large windows, the flurry of house plants and handsome marble surfaces. So striking in fact, that we crowned it 'kitchen of the year' on Instagram. As well as letting in copious amounts of natural light, the French door also leads out to a charming garden space with some seating for warm evenings. 

Upstairs, the bedrooms are both large and equipped with regal beds, while there's even a balcony space looking out over the rooftops of East London and the distant skyscrapers in The City. However, you don't even have to go far to find things to do in the neighbourhood. Just around the corner, there's the Castle Cinema — an Art Deco building reopened after a local crowdfunding campaign — and Chatsworth Market, which runs every Sunday with a great range of independent stalls.

The Knowledge

Ideal for couples or solo travellers visiting for business or pleasure, this third floor duplex apartment is situated in the very heart of London. With Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Soho's assorted delights just minutes away, you'll be able to explore some of the most vibrant and historic parts of the capital without even needing public transport. The apartment itself is an excellent find, too – there's a large and bright double bedroom, a kitchen equipped with good quality appliances, and a comfortable living area boasting designer furniture. With some of London's very best restaurants, museums and theatres on your doorstep, there are few better places to set down for your stay.

And when it comes to explorations further afield, it’s just a short walk to local shops, pubs and restaurants as well as Regent’s Canal.

Wondering how London’s young and stylish live? Find out in this beautiful Bloomsbury apartment, one of the most complete one-bedroom homes we’ve come across. Sleepily located between Kings Cross St Pancras station and the British Museum, it includes a dining table, living area, kitchen and raised back patio, yet never feels remotely cramped. It also boasts real romantic style: host Lucy is a photographer, and her visual flair is evident throughout – from dark-wood floors to a huge all-white bedroom.

Sleek, modern, and practical, this home is an excellent base to explore London from. The immediate area is filled with things to do – we recommend going for a walk in Inner and Middle Temple Gardens or seeing an exhibition at Somerset House. If you don’t feel like cooking at home, Covent Garden’s lively restaurant scene is only about fifteen minutes away on foot, and you’ll also find lots of places to eat along the Strand. Though the kitchen hides myriad appliances and crockery behind slick, white cupboards if you want to dine in. Settle in from the smart TV on the stylish mid-century velvet sofa for a quiet night in after a long day exploring everything central London has to offer.

Tucked between Covent Garden and Holborn, this contemporary duplex apartment offers a restful retreat in the city. Sleek and set up with everything needed for a comfortable stay, it’s an ideal base for a family or group of friends. But the main reason it caught our eye? It’s all about the location. With many iconic London hotspots within walking distance, such as the British Museum, the Royal Opera House, Leicester Square and Soho, there’s plenty to keep you entertained while you’re away. And for trips further afield, Holborn Station is a mere three minutes on foot.

Exposed brick, bold artwork, and vibrant location – this pad ticks all the boxes for a buzzing stay in East London. It's not the biggest, but we think the space is well-suited to solo travellers and couples. The table doubles as a workspace if you're in town on business. And, even if the views aren't the greatest, the small balcony provides a nice spot to relax in the sunshine. But the best part is the neighbourhood. Bethnal Green is one of the city's coolest postcodes, and hip restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops surround you. The nearest bus stop is right outside and a Tube station is nearby – perfect for exploring more of the city.

And if you're not feeling spoilt enough, you'll have a large balcony to eat your meals on (if the weather obliges). From its large, leather L-shaped sofa to its pendant lights and eclectic posters, this space is made for living it up and winding down, both in equal measure. We love the main room’s loading doors that open up onto a balcony and the steel desk that will make working from home a treat. The kitchen, too, is a masterclass in industrial chic with its AGA Rangemaster double oven, wine cabinet and sleek stainless steel countertops. The bedroom, meanwhile, is calm and understated with a detailed wood headboard and artistic prints adding pops of colour. While we won’t blame you for wanting to chill out in your city pad all day long, there’s plenty of entertainment to be had right outside your door. Walk to lively Shoreditch in fifteen minutes, sample Brick Lane’s world cuisine (twenty minutes away on foot) or stay local in Hoxton to discover its countless boutiques, bars and restaurants.
