Known for its village atmosphere, period architecture and excellent transport links (Hammersmith, Goldhawk Road and Shepherds Bush stations are all within walking distance), this pocket of West London suits families, business travellers and those craving a quieter neighbourhood. Yet it's still close to excellent restaurants, cosy gastropubs, green spaces and plenty of shopping, with Westfield London (fifteen-minute stroll), Kensington High Street (twenty-minute walk) and Holland Park (thirty minutes on foot) all just a stone's throw away. This bright apartment in a picturesque mansion is the perfect place to rest your feet and recharge after a long day exploring. The fully-stocked kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up a meal, while the cosy living area has a comfortable sofa, Freeview channels and DVD player for chilled nights at home. There's also a desk if you need to do some remote working, though we'd probably get distracted watching the world pass by outside the window. But our favourite feature is the sumptuous rolltop bath. We can't think of a better way to end the day than with a glass of wine, a good book and a relaxing soak. Pure bliss.

It's located on a charming street close to the Thameside towpath and the area's pubs and restaurants, so there's plenty to do if you decide to stay local. Families and friends will have ample room to stretch out here. We love the cosy lounge, the light-filled kitchen, and the two comfortable bedrooms. Remote workers can get down to business in the separate study, which has a sofa bed for guests five and six. Factor in the sun-kissed patio, balcony, and private parking, and it's no surprise it caught our eye.

Feather Quill is a comfortable and cosy home located in a picturesque grove area but still close to the bustling office area of Hammersmith. An eclectic selection of paintings and objects contrast with the minimal white aesthetic of the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, which is part of a brand new extension. The quirky nature of the books and artworks around the desk area might not suit everyone, although it creates a relaxed, homely feel. We really liked the remote control blind system, which is excellent for a peaceful sleep.

Though it's small, the kitchen is stylish and still has enough cookware and counter space to rustle up a quick bite to eat. Plan your route around the dining table, using the helpful Tube map above the sofa as a guide. Then, set off and explore. This is a residential neighbourhood, right down the street from Olympia London. A seven-minute stroll will take you to Kensington High Street, where you'll find cosy coffee shops, international eateries and stores ripe for browsing. Kensington Palace and Hyde Park are about a thirty-minute walk away, or just hop on the tube at Shepard's Bush Station – ten minutes on foot – and be in central London in no time.
