This apartment sits more or less on the dividing line where central London ends and the east side of the city begins. You'll see that it's a clash of two cultures — in one direction, you have glass skyscrapers housing financial institutions close to Liverpool Street and on the other, it's reclaimed industrial space, street art on nearly every surface and the buzzy bars and clubs of Shoreditch. There's no doubting it's an interesting location, but this penthouse home is equally noteworthy. The standout feature here is the private wraparound balcony — south and west-facing, as well — which offers a wonderful setting for pre-dinner cocktails and even a glimpse of the Shard. Back inside, we're also big fans of the large open living area, decked out with bare wood flooring and fashionable grey furnishings. Prepare for negotiations over the bedrooms — one has direct access to the outdoor terrace, but the other has an inviting-looking bathtub in the ensuite. However, squabbles can wait until you've seen a bit of the city first. If you’re heading out for an evening meal, the famous Brick Lane is just four minutes' walk from your front door and boasts an impressive number of Bengali restaurants, as well as vintage stores and all-night bagel joints.

East is East

This stylish studio apartment is an ideal base for a London break. It’s in Shoreditch, close to co-working spaces and business hubs, as well as theatres and galleries. You won’t need to walk far to find your next great meal – there are countless bars, restaurants, and cafes nearby. If you’d prefer to cook for yourself, this apartment has a fully equipped kitchen. There’s also a desk for those working remotely during their stay. As this is a studio, privacy is limited – all three guests will sleep in the same space. 

Big City Studio

Behind a beautifully renovated townhouse facade lies an interior that is bright and beautiful in equal measures. The living room has the feel of a contemporary art gallery, with high ceilings, parquet flooring and striking pieces on the wall. Although saying that, we haven't been to a gallery with such cute pastel-pink, tufted furnishings. 

The kitchen is just as striking, thanks to the large windows, the flurry of house plants and handsome marble surfaces. So striking in fact, that we crowned it 'kitchen of the year' on Instagram. As well as letting in copious amounts of natural light, the French door also leads out to a charming garden space with some seating for warm evenings. 

Upstairs, the bedrooms are both large and equipped with regal beds, while there's even a balcony space looking out over the rooftops of East London and the distant skyscrapers in The City. However, you don't even have to go far to find things to do in the neighbourhood. Just around the corner, there's the Castle Cinema — an Art Deco building reopened after a local crowdfunding campaign — and Chatsworth Market, which runs every Sunday with a great range of independent stalls.

The Knowledge

Once upon a time, this building was a warehouse for exotic animals, set in the heart of gritty East London. Over a century later, it has a new lease of life as a boutique collection of apartments, complete with a heavy dose of Shoreditch style. Step through the front door of this loft and you'll find a bright space with huge Victorian windows, wooden floors and exposed brick walls, echoing the building's industrial past. There's a blend of contemporary and vintage furniture along with several thoughtful touches, from the collection of board games to the tasty box of chocolates ready for your arrival. Guests also have access to the rooftop garden, a real treat in the inner city, which makes the ideal spot to sip your morning coffee in the fresh air. The surrounding neighbourhood is bursting with restaurants and bars where you can let your hair down, along with an array of independent boutiques full of artisan goodies. And, if you want to tick off your central London sightseeing list, a local bus can bring you into the city centre within half an hour. 

Warehouse Project

Not far from Burgess Park, you'll find easy transport links nearby to take you to the city centre. This colourful home welcomes up to six guests, with two sleeping on a sofa bed in the open-plan living area. While the balcony isn't the prettiest, outside space is a rare bonus in London – this is the perfect spot for sipping complimentary tea and coffee between busy excursions. Like to stay local? There's a wide variety of international restaurants on your doorstep.

The Royal Blue

Nestled in one of East London's quieter areas, this two bedroom apartment has enough amenities and design flourishes to make for a comfortable and dependable stay. Forsaking the bustle of areas like Shoreditch and Hackney Wick, the apartment is ten minutes from Stepney Green, where the District Line can take you to Tower Hill, Trafalgar Square, Sloane Square and other iconic parts of London with speed and convenience. The space itself also fits in two bathrooms – a welcome touch – while the living area and private balcony offer pleasant views across the city.

The Bold Design

Moments from the iconic Borough Market, this apartment sets the tone for a magical city stay. You can pick up fresh local produce, wander towards the River Thames and admire the views across London Bridge. It’s also easy to explore further afield thanks to the public transport links. And when it comes to rest and relaxation, this home hits all the right notes. It’s worth noting the apartment is on the fourth floor with no lift access, but once inside you’ll find a refreshing city sanctuary. There are two balconies for warm weather days and the living room is perfect for cosy gatherings. 

The Hazel 

On the leafy streets of north London, this traditional home has been lovingly restored into a private city sanctuary. 

Spread across four floors, the owners have retained the original period features whilst integrating a range of personal touches and contemporary comforts. From the light-dappled rooms and soft natural tones to the art and objects, every detail has been considered to enrich daily living with joy and ease. And with multiple living spaces alongside a fully equipped kitchen and three snug bedrooms, this is the kind of space that inspires you to settle in and make it your own. 

Wake up to views across the towering trees, savour the tranquillity of the garden, relax in the bath and come together for candlelit meals and cosy evenings by the fire. However you choose to spend your time here, every moment promises to be enriched by the effortless style and calm simplicity of this space. 

From here, stroll along the atmospheric streets of Canonbury to Islington’s vibrant Upper Street. From organic shops, boutiques and markets, to galleries and restaurants, this is the perfect setting to experience the magic of London whilst connecting with a thriving community. There’s also easy access to the New River Walk – bringing a wonderful burst of natural beauty to your city stay. 

Breathe & Flow

Dive right into London living from this smart apartment located just a stone’s throw from the iconic Borough Market and a five-minute walk from London Bridge Underground. A great choice for couples or friends sharing, there’s heaps of space for socialising in the high-style living room, and the made-for-action kitchen has everything you need to rustle up dinner with supplies picked up from the local market. Located on the third floor without a lift, expect to climb some stairs here. But if you can look past that, you’re onto a winner.

The Thames Side

You’ll have your pick of a slew of London’s best-loved hotspots in this well-placed apartment. If you’re after some of the city’s best finger food, Borough Market awaits just a few minutes away – then there’s the Shard, where you can ascend to the observation deck for a spectacular view. Though you’ll need to climb a few stairs to get to the front door of the home (there’s no lift here), it’s well worth it for the location – and the apartment itself is cosy and well-designed, with pops of colour from its decor lending it plenty of charm and character. 

Borough Bliss

Ideal for couples or solo travellers visiting for business or pleasure, this third floor duplex apartment is situated in the very heart of London. With Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Soho's assorted delights just minutes away, you'll be able to explore some of the most vibrant and historic parts of the capital without even needing public transport. The apartment itself is an excellent find, too – there's a large and bright double bedroom, a kitchen equipped with good quality appliances, and a comfortable living area boasting designer furniture. With some of London's very best restaurants, museums and theatres on your doorstep, there are few better places to set down for your stay.

Piccadilly Place

A little green hiding place in East London, this vintage-lovers paradise manages to mix thrift shop finds with high-end necessities. It’s a sweet spot that feels homely but certainly doesn’t scrimp on quality or comfort. You’ll be sharing the space with an impressive collection of houseplants, but that’s part of its charm. We love the well-equipped kitchen in miniature and the deep, dark blue of the Victorian bathroom, complete with a claw foot bath for taking a long soak. Pop on the Bluetooth Marshall amp or record player, and enjoy some time away from the busy streets of the capital. Outside, there’s a small but no-less-welcome terrace, which brings a tiny bit of nature into the breathable living space. Located in a lively and interesting part of the city, with the weekly Chatsworth Road Market on your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore, including a host of indy shops and eateries. And it’s only a ten-minute walk to Homerton overground station or twenty minutes to Hackney Central if you fancy seeing what else London has to offer.
