There are plenty of entertainment options too. Snuggle up with a movie in the cosy (inside) living space – complete with a cleverly positioned projector. Choose a book from the extensive collection – courtesy of independent publishers – and sink back into the egg-shaped swing seat in your unique outside living space (and don't worry, you can purchase all the books on-board if you're a few chapters short). It's the perfect setting for a romantic getaway in the city, with the spectacular rooftop dining area also ideal for entertaining friends and celebrating a special occasion. We absolutely loved it.

You’ll immediately be transported back in time through the home’s original features, like the parquet floors, corniced ceilings and sash windows that bathe the whole space in light. We love the plump armchair that invites evenings over glasses of wine and the cosy dining nook that’s all set for intimate meals and sunny breakfasts alike. Although the design is a little more homely, we appreciated the warm, lived-in feeling. Kick off your shoes and make yourself right at home, rustling up meals in the kitchen (which is well-stocked with cookware), snuggling up with a book on the sofa and retreating to the bedrooms for an afternoon snooze. Everything you'll need for a relaxing getaway is taken care of – Netflix streaming on the smart TV, Sonos speakers in the living area and high-end toiletries in the bathrooms. Best of all is the location. Tucked away on a pretty street just a few minutes walk from Paddington Station, this area is excellent for exploring. Start the day with a stroll through Hyde Park (ten minutes on foot), wander along the canal in Little Venice (a twelve-minute walk away) or hop on the tube and journey around the city. Finish the evening off with a pint and delicious meal at one of the pubs nearby – there's at least three within walking distance, so you'll have more than enough choice.

Just around the corner from the beautiful Kensington Gardens and leafy Hyde Park, this stylish studio flat is in a prime locale. It's set on a quiet mews, tucked away from the busy streets, surrounded by quaint cafes, local delis and delicious restaurants. After a morning stroll around the park, coffee in hand, explore the rest of the city – Notting Hill is a short bus ride away (or a thirty-minute walk if you want to stretch your legs), while Regent Street, the West End and Covent Garden are easily reachable via the tube at Lancaster Gate (five minutes on foot). Back at home, kick off your shoes and rest weary legs on the gloriously comfortable sofa. We love the bold colours and original abstract artwork dotted around. It's cosy, bright, and best of all, whisper-quiet, so much so that it's hard to believe this flat is smack-dab in the centre of the city. If you're in the mood to cook, the cherry red kitchen has everything you need to prepare a delicious meal, while the daffodil yellow bathroom is stocked with White Company toiletries. Then, when it's time for bed, sink into the plush king-sized bed draped in crisp, luxury linens and drift off in utter peace.

Your host is a set designer with an eye for aesthetics. In fact, her other boat even made it into a published book of the world’s best houseboats. In addition to its chic styling, this wide-beam barge comes equipped with everything you would expect of a modern home, with a couple of quirks to consider to ensure everything remains shipshape throughout your stay. However, in our opinion, these only add to the thrill. Think luxurious shepherd's hut in the centre of the city.

On sunny days, make the most of your privileged position and relax on the rooftop deck with a drink in hand, the envious glances of passers-by flowing like water off a duck's back. Alternatively, strike out along the towpath and explore everything this canalside stretch has to offer.


They Call Me the Wanderer

Unlike the traditional Bayswater avenue on which you’ll find it, this lovely home is quietly contemporary. With a muted palette, wooden flooring and sloping skylights, it’s a peaceful space, which is exactly what you’ll need after a busy day exploring the delights of London. It's well set up for families, with cosy bunk beds and a cornucopia of toys. Pebble-grey and muted inside, this apartment is an oasis in the city. There’s plush dining for eight people, and enough room for the whole group to spread out in the living room. Each bedroom has bags of space – a rarity this close to the centre of London. But we love the orchids and white roses that add a touch of class to the luxe rooms.
