We think this practical apartment is perfect for business travellers. Not only is there a desk in the lounge ideal for remote working, but it's just one stop away on the Jubilee Line from Canary Wharf. The design is simple, but it has all the essentials for a laid-back stay – a well-appointed kitchen, underfloor heating in the bathroom, and even free parking if you’d rather drive. There's even a little patio perfect for post-sightseeing sundowners. Just note that two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the lounge – not a deal breaker by any means, but it may not be suitable for everyone.

This unique, self-built home in Brockley starts to put on a show the moment guests walk down the quiet mews street on which it hides away. The striking rust-coloured and geometric exterior embraces industrial-chic trends, but it gives no indication of the sophisticated interior that lies behind the front door. Step inside and you'll find a magazine-worthy home where natural light is allowed to pour in through the glass doors and skylights, and colourful pieces of original artwork arranged tastefully about the place grab your attention. The furnishings are mainly mid-century and Scandinavian in inspiration, while the surfaces on the black kitchen are as sleek as they come. One of our favourite parts has to be the outside terrace, though, where a landscape gardener has packed plant beds full of native New Zealand plants and brings a touch of wilderness to this corner of South London. As only feels appropriate for this stylish home, it's located in and close to some of London's trendiest neighbourhoods, nestled in the trifecta of Lewisham, New Cross and Peckham.

Cross the gangplank onto this incredible floating home near the Thames. Moored just a couple of blocks from Tower Bridge, this former 1930s steel barge is a ten-minute walk from the Tower of London. The top deck has been converted into a long, open living space with views of St Katharine Docks Marina from the huge windows. We love the semi-outdoor dining room, housed in a glass atrium-style space to the rear of the ship, with seating for ten. Choose to relax in the stylish white lounge on the upper deck, or head downstairs to the snug with its u-shaped sofa around a striking suspended fireplace. Bedrooms are on the lower deck, but that doesn’t mean dark cabins with tiny portholes. Spacious rooms have walls of windows and if there are portholes, they’re the size of a bass drum, letting in tonnes of natural light. If you manage to bag the master bedroom, its en-suite comes with a sauna. Welcome aboard, matey!

The apartment is modern and sleek, with high-end appliances and amenities to make your stay all the more comfortable – in winter, the underfloor heating is a real bonus. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space, but for these views, we can easily forgive that.

The home consists of two separate apartments – although it won't suit everyone, there's plenty of space. In addition to a bedroom and a bathroom, each flat has its own kitchen and living space (just note that one is smaller). The cherry on top is the terrace overlooking the Shard – the perfect spot to nibble on goodies you got at the market.

Ideal for couples or solo travellers visiting for business or pleasure, this third floor duplex apartment is situated in the very heart of London. With Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Soho's assorted delights just minutes away, you'll be able to explore some of the most vibrant and historic parts of the capital without even needing public transport. At full capacity, one guest will use the sofa bed, which must be requested in advance. It may be cosy, but the location is unbeatable, the vibe is inspiring, and the city is right on your doorstep. What's not to love?

Hoxton Hideaway

When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. Rather pleasingly for a home for two, the cobalt kitchen has a wealth of sleek surface space for whipping up romantic dinners, while the pristinely tiled bathroom has a tub that will surely sing to you after a long day on your feet.

Although the surrounding neighbourhood has a welcomingly quiet residential feel, some of the UK capital's most famous sights are only a short walk away — both The British Museum and St Paul's Cathedral will take you all of twenty minutes to reach.

Inside, it's a picture of pearly white furnishings, sleek surfaces and monochromatic artwork. You'll notice cream sofas, ghost chairs and a large ornate mirror in the bedrooms, creating an air of elegance around the home. Plus, there's a light and tidy study area for those looking to work from home during their stay. Outside, we really liked the home’s location – the top attractions on picturesque Bermondsey Street are just a five-minute walk away. Although the real highlight is the home's proximity to London Bridge – under twenty minutes (on foot) from The Shard and the surrounding hub, full to the brim with fine-dine restaurants and hip bars.

Feel the buzz of London’s swanky financial district while staying in this sleek and modern Canary Wharf apartment. Minimalist in design, this home’s views do all the talking with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in heaps of light. The cool, white kitchen invites plenty of culinary wizardry, but with the city’s world-famous dining scene on your doorstep, we doubt you'll spend much time slaving over the stove. Step out onto the balcony for arresting views over Docklands. The building has plenty of excellent facilities to take advantage of, including a gym, a spinning studio, a private cinema, and a roof terrace to take in even more spectacular views. While Canary Wharf can be quieter on weekends, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area with Mudchute City Farm less than a twenty-minute walk away, Greenwich just over a half-hour stroll away and Canary Wharf station just  ten minutes from your door. Hop on the DLR or the Jubilee Line to easily reach the trendy brewery bars of Bermondsey, the ever-lively London Bridge, and countless other sights.

The train station is right around the corner, making travel into hotspots like Central London and Canary Wharf a breeze.

With space to sleep six (including one on the sofa bed) it’s a great option for a family trip or group getaway, although the one bathroom might make things cosy. Having a well-equipped kitchen is a bonus too, so you can begin your morning with a home-cooked breakfast or enjoy a chilled evening in after a busy day.

This stylish, couple's hideaway, housed in a Victorian warehouse, in a cobbled courtyard in Central London, is just over a five-minute walk from The Shard. For artisan produce, head to one of the city's largest and oldest food markets, Borough Market, a four-minute wander. If you love art, the Tate Modern is ten minutes on foot, while one of London's most iconic landmarks, Tower Bridge, is under a twenty-minute saunter. Of course, there are plenty of restaurants and chic bars on your doorstep in this desirable location – there's even a historic wine bar one-minute away. You don't have to go anywhere, though, to admire Britain's tallest building – The Shard is thrillingly visible from your bedroom window. We love the designer furniture here, from the Isamu Noguchi coffee table and Eames chairs to the Italian suede sofa – all shown off to perfection by the walnut floors and exposed brick walls. Pour a glass of Champagne and survey the city from the Juliet balcony, then whip up some dinner in the sleek kitchen. We were surprised how tranquil this sunny home is, given its fabulous location – it’s a quiet haven after all that sightseeing.

A chic home in a tucked-away London location, this stylish Deptford pad boasts a spacious decked terrace and a modern interior with lots of soothing beige and brown tones. Light pours in through the sliding glass doors that extends the living space out to the beautiful rooftop deck, for added luxury and comfort. Whether you're inside or outside, it's clear that the owners have an eye for design and detail. On chillier evenings, line up the projector overhead, knock up a few light bites in the modern black kitchen and enjoy a cosy movie night snuggled up on the cream sofa. From the pale parquet floors to the sleek nude surfaces, this home is a real cool customer. And while we love the aesthetic here, it's also a homely spot too, with a bedroom set up especially for kids. In fact, for a young family after a city-based bolthole that's near to the big sights, but removed from the intense crowds and clamouring tourists, this trendy apartment is perfectly suited. You're an eight minute train ride from New Cross to London Bridge, fifteen minutes to Shoreditch, and twenty-two minutes to the South Bank, full of hip bars and restaurants along the waterfront, and one stop on the DLR to the Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, and Greenwich Park where you can catch a boat into central London.

We love the open-plan living and dining space, with its stripped-back style and modern kitchen. There’s also a secluded courtyard garden, perfect for warm weather.

A convenient base for a couple or a solo traveller, this apartment is in a sleek development in Canary Wharf. You’ll have access to communal facilities including a gym, a roof terrace, and co-working spaces – perfect if you’ll be in London for business. The petite studio apartment has a modern kitchenette, though you’ll have plenty of cafes nearby if you’d rather dine out. There are also shops close by, and you can reach Canary Wharf Tube station in less than ten minutes.

A veritable cabinet of curiosities, this extraordinary Grade II-listed home tells a story at every turn. A real hidden gem, it's just off lively Mile End Road, tucked away behind wisteria and ivy-clad cast-iron railings. Private walled gardens add to the sense that you’re discovering a secret hideaway. The house was built in 1741 and rescued by the Spitalfields Trust before being purchased by a pair of collectors, one a British historian, and the other a landscape gardener. They poured their expertise, passion, and care into restoring every inch of this four-storey treasure trove, carefully applying layers of thin paints and chalks to the lime plaster walls – keep an eye out for the ornate chimneypiece that once had a home in the notorious Tom King’s Coffee House. 

Curiosity Calls

This stunning Victorian warehouse has been converted into a stylish, vibrant home in Borough, one of London’s most interesting neighbourhoods. You’ll be just a short stroll from Borough Market, as well as being next to Southwark Cathedral and Clink Street. For exploration further afield, you need only walk 190 metres to London Bridge station to hop on the Jubilee Line. We love the terrace, from which you can admire the Shard, and the quirky, colourful decor. There are lots of stairs to climb so it won’t be suitable for everyone, but if you can manage them, you’ll be rewarded with one of the coolest bases in Borough. 

Belong To Me

Behind a beautifully renovated townhouse facade lies an interior that is bright and beautiful in equal measures. The living room has the feel of a contemporary art gallery, with high ceilings, parquet flooring and striking pieces on the wall. Although saying that, we haven't been to a gallery with such cute pastel-pink, tufted furnishings. 

The kitchen is just as striking, thanks to the large windows, the flurry of house plants and handsome marble surfaces. So striking in fact, that we crowned it 'kitchen of the year' on Instagram. As well as letting in copious amounts of natural light, the French door also leads out to a charming garden space with some seating for warm evenings. 

Upstairs, the bedrooms are both large and equipped with regal beds, while there's even a balcony space looking out over the rooftops of East London and the distant skyscrapers in The City. However, you don't even have to go far to find things to do in the neighbourhood. Just around the corner, there's the Castle Cinema — an Art Deco building reopened after a local crowdfunding campaign — and Chatsworth Market, which runs every Sunday with a great range of independent stalls.
