This home is ideal for families, as there’s so much to do. It can be found in pretty Bacton, within easy reach of the Norfolk Broads and Norwich – and just a short walk from Bacton Beach. In addition to having a cosy, traditional home to return to after days spent in the fresh air, you’ll also have access to a communal indoor swimming pool and a games room. The shared garden is a lovely spot when the weather is fine, too. The decor on the rustic side and the main bedroom isn’t entirely private, so it won’t suit everyone – but we think it’s a great option for a family and their four-legged friend.

Set within the extensive grounds of a 16th-century Grade II listed home (which once served Bromholm Priory as a working farm), this little cottage makes the perfect setting for a rustic retreat on the Norfolk coast. And with direct access to Bacton beach as well as the use of a communal swimming pool, you’ll find yourself transported to a wonderful state of relaxation. 

Inside, the owners have retained the traditional features of this old stable building and added in a range of contemporary comforts. From the Tudor brick fireplace to the wooden beams and snug bedrooms, this is a wonderful place to get cosy and share quality time together. 

Outside, you’ll find a private garden with a barbecue – perfect for embracing the magic of outdoor living. From here, make your way to the thatched barn house to enjoy a refreshing swim in the communal pool or an energising workout in the mini gym. Children (and adults) will love the playful spirit of the gardens – there’s a giant chess set, seesaw and trampoline as well as a games room in the old gig house. 

Days can be spent hiking along the coast or following in the footsteps of pilgrims to the ruins of Bromholm Priory – just a short walk away.

From its blissfully quiet, secluded spot, you could feel a million miles from anywhere – which is how we like things. But when the sea calls, the soft sands of Walcott Beach are just 0.9 miles away. A smidge further, you’ll find the post-card pretty village of Ridlington (a 2.5-mile drive). Or, there's good old-fashioned beach fun down at Mundesley, with its colourful beach huts, lip-smacking fish and chip shops, and lashings of ice cream.

Back home, this light-filled treasure is a joy to return to, with its exposed beams and stonework bringing all the wow factor. Set out across one level, extended families or friends sharing will love the privacy the bedrooms bring, each with a separate bathroom. Tucked away in the quiet village of Bacton, this charming flint home absolutely exudes cosy comfort. With a sumptuous sectional sofa and a crackling wood burner in the living area, a large dining table in the country-style kitchen and three inviting bedrooms, there's plenty of space here to spread out and make yourself comfortable. Home chefs can cook up a storm in the kitchen – it's well-stocked with everything you need – while kids play a board game or snuggle up with a book. That said, our favourite spot has to be the sunny garden. Fire up the barbecue for dinner, share your meal around the outdoor table and then when the sun goes down, snuggle up by the fire pit underneath the stars.

Right down the street is the ruins of the Priory of Bromholm, a historic abbey that was said to house a piece of the True Cross. And just a little further, only five minutes away, is a sandy beach, where you can sprawl out on the Norfolk coast and dip your toes into the water. When you're not in the mood to cook, there are a few pubs and eateries in town, plus lively Cromer is only ten miles away – perfect for a day trip.

Where the Air Is Sweet

From the moment you sweep into the private grounds of this flint-clad Norfolk farmhouse set just a short walk from the beach, you know this isn’t going to be your average coastal bolthole. Dating back to the 1600s and surrounded by three acres of fairytale-esque gardens, this is a home for all ten of you (and your furry friends) to pile in and start living the seaside dream in serious style.

In the summer months, pad out onto the elegant terrace to catch the golden hour sun with a tipple or two. Kids can run amuck on the vast lawns with a kickabout, game of badminton, or search out the garden basket swing, all under your watchful eye. Then head back indoors to cook up a feast in the shaker-style kitchen. There’s a grand dining room if you fancy rolling out the red carpet or keep things casual and alfresco on the veranda.

Enjoy long walks along the nearby cliff tops (a ten-minute walk) in the winter months. Then hunker down beside the fire with a post-walk cuppa. In need of some peace and quiet? That secondary snug is prime for a late afternoon loll or savour a soak in the rolltop bath, just because you can. Meanwhile, the impressive games room should keep the kids (and big kids) happy. 

And when it’s finally time to spread your wings further along the coast, take your pick from some of North Norfolk’s coast finest beaches – the coastal towns of Overstand, Sheringham, and Mundesley are just a short drive away.

If you're looking to get away from it all, this home is in the ideal spot. All on the ground floor, it's set in a wing of a Grade II listed Palladian Villa and surrounded by 200 acres of unspoilt parkland. Originally built in the 1930s for use during the shooting season, the main part of this impressive house is now a family home. Beautiful arched windows let the sunlight stream into the spacious living room and offer views out over the grounds. 

Step straight from your door to explore the woodland, meadows and lakes of this vast estate – and if you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of deers, badgers, otters and all kinds of birdlife. Or enjoy a few games of tennis on the owner's outdoor court. 

It's only a four-minute drive to the nearest pub, or it's a fifteen-minute ride to the delightful coastal town of Cromer with its pier walk, crabbing, and fish and chips by the shore. By day you can explore the area's sandy beaches, walk the Norfolk Coastal Path or discover the National Trust properties of Felbrigg Hall and the Blickling Estate (a ten and twenty-minute drive, respectively).

Enjoy a laid-back morning lie-in in the cushy bedrooms, then pad downstairs for a hearty breakfast shared around the dining table. Take advantage of the sunshine in the rear garden, the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea in the afternoon or an evening tipple. For dinner, fire up the barbecue and dine alfresco as the sun goes down – with the roses in bloom and sea salt in the air, it's pure bliss.

Comfortable and contemporary in equal measure, we love how the interior combines 21st-century design with old-world charm. We can easily imagine evenings spent lounging in front of the electric fire, reading books and playing board games, or snuggling up for a family movie night on the plush sofas.

This elegant coastal home set a mere 0.1 miles from the beach in the postcard-pretty village of Happisburgh, had us charmed with its country garden and summer house alone. And that was before we'd even seen the slipper bath and four-poster bed of its swoon-worthy interiors.

Inside, every corner of this Norfolk home feels like an interior magazine brought to life. Antique pieces and objets d'art nod to the home's 18th-century beginnings, while pops of colour add a dash of modernity.

Set out over one level, there's room for you to all spill out in style here. When the sun shines, pad out into the enclosed wraparound garden for alfresco breakfasts. Then savour that second coffee beneath the dapple of the apple tree while kids and furry friends run off some energy on the lawns.

When you're ready to meet the locals of this otherworldly village, Happisburgh's traditional inn dating back to 1550 is just around the corner for upper-crust grub. Or follow the iconic red and white striped lighthouse down to the seafront for afternoons of picnicking and sandcastle building.

As evenings draw in, head home to run yourself a bubble bath (there are fluffy robes and slippers at the ready) before nestling beside the fire and breaking out the home's board games. Then all that's left to do is sink into that hug of a king-sized, four-poster bed – it's got dreamy slumbers written all over it.

Postcard from Happisburgh

We may have just found the most adorable home in Norfolk — and it's pet friendly. Located only a short walk from Happisburgh beach, this stunning barn conversion is a fantastic spot to bring your loved ones and let loose. While the pups are playing in the garden, you can chill out in the shade with a cocktail recipe that took you mane iterations to perfect and play scrabble to showcase your enviable vocabulary. Take the tribe to the beach whenever you feel like and when the weather is nice, have a picnic there too. On lazier days, you might only make it as far as the orchard garden, but that's more than fine as long as you remember to relax. When you feel like embarking on a day trip, Norfolk will provide plenty of fascinating destinations ranging from war memorials to famous tearooms. 

Happyburgh

With only an eight-minute walk and a front door separating you from Mundesley Beach, this is a fantastic starting point for families wanting to explore the Norfolk Coast. Otherwise surrounded by bars, shops and the Mundesley Golf Club, this house is undoubtedly central, which is a big tick on location. Neutral with a touch of country-house chic, it's homely, comfortable and, with well-sized bedrooms, spacious enough for up to ten. Though there are two living areas and by no means a shortage of seating, you'll also find patio furniture on the raised deck. We recommend afternoon wine and nibbles as you watch the kids expend their energy on the manicured lawn.

You'll find this imposing home set within a 300-acre historic parkland at the centre of a North Norfolk private estate. The former home of the head gardener, this Georgian building boasts its own walled garden and numerous character features – not least its beautiful arched windows. A simple, elegant cottage that's been modernised without losing its charm, it's now perfect for a special break in the countryside.

Along with a games room with all sorts of fun activities for all the family, there's a large lawn and an outdoor dining terrace, plus a little modern luxury in the form of a hot tub. Open some wine and cook up a storm together, before settling down at the long dining table to enjoy your culinary creations. On chilly evenings you can throw a log on the fire and get cosy on the sofa afterwards – or, head out onto the patio to enjoy an alfresco sundowner in the breeze. 

Pack up your bucket and spade and take a short wander down to the water to relax on the sand and admire the rainbow of beach huts. Refuel with some local fish and chips – there are three places to try, so you might have to sample them all. If you fancy a round of golf then there's a course on the outskirts of Mundesley, and walkers and cyclists can explore the Norfolk countryside from here too.

With its thatched roof and shuttered windows, you couldn't ask for a cuter cottage than this Grade-II listed address sitting in the middle of a country estate in rural Norfolk.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.

If you're travelling with furry friends in tow, look no further than this thatched-roof cottage close to the Norfolk coastline. 

Throws for sofas, dog bowls, bags and biscuits all come as standard. Tiled floors downstairs mean there’s no need to worry about muddy paw prints on carpets, and if you don’t fancy one of the many great walks on the doorstep, you can just let them exercise themselves in the garden. Even the local pub — the Lessingham Star, a couple of minutes’ walk — is dog-friendly.

Of course, you don’t need a hound to enjoy this fantastic house. The owners are former residents and it still very much has the feel of a family home. Downstairs, there are plenty of cosy living rooms and snugs in which to rest up after long rambles. In the country-style kitchen, there's an electric range oven for the full rural fantasy, although there's a barbecue out on the terrace if the weather's on your side. Come nighttime, you might be able to see bats or hear owls, foxes and deer from the nearby woodland.

When you want an afternoon out, there's a hedge-lined grassy track that will take you to Sea Palling beach in twenty minutes' walk and the Norfolk Broads can be reached in no more than five minutes in the car. The city of Norwich is a forty-five-minute drive away, too.

Set back from a clifftop, with a gate out onto the grass, this is the perfect place to escape everyday stress. It's a reasonably undiscovered part of Norfolk so it's perfect if you're trying to evade the crowds. It's a short walk to the village shop and pub, but a seven-minute drive will take you to Cromer – famous for its pier, crab fishing and its long sandy beach. 

Back at the house you can cosy up with a book in the snug, put your feet up in front of the wood-burning stove in the lounge or, if the weather is on your side, eat outside in the beautiful garden. If you can tear your eyes away from the view, that is. Each room is designed to make the most of the ocean vistas with floor-to-ceiling windows in the master bedroom allowing for sunrise stretches and the picture windows in the living room inviting floods of natural light into the communal area for seamless seaside living.

If you're after a home that's got space for you and your beloved pooch(es), we've found one that's just 'paw-fect' (we can't promise that won't be the last dog pun). A gorgeous barn conversion close to the wind-whipped Norfolk coast, this home has been set up with dog lovers in mind. There's enough space for up to four of your furry friends to join, with a lavish fleece-lined bed for each, throws for those that just won't stay off the sofa, an enclosed garden and a special dog hamper to welcome them. Two-legged guests will love the open-plan living and dining area, the AGA in the kitchen, comfy sofas and plenty of games. You'll definitely want to keep the dogs out of the bedrooms, though, as the Egyptian cotton bedding is far too sumptuous to share. Nearby there are lots of dog-friendly woodland and beach walks, and local pub The Star Inn will be happy to welcome you and your tail-wagging companions. After a day out exploring the best of the north Norfolk coast, treat yourself to a soak in the hot tub looking out over the surrounding fields. If you want to explore further afield, head twenty miles north to Cromer, known as 'the gem of the Norfolk coast'. We think it makes for the 'ulti-mutt' escape.

This baby blue timber lodge is just as cute on the inside as it is on the outside. As well as having all the essentials for a romantic getaway, there are house plants, colourful pieces of artwork and a turquoise accent wall to give the place a bit of character without overdoing it — one of the hosts is an interior designer, can't you tell? Out through the glass door, there's a large garden with a cosy seating area at the far end and plenty of potted plants dotted about. You'll find that there's a real sense of peace here. The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.
