This yellow cottage dates back to the 1850s, so if you're looking for traditional charm with contemporary twists, this is the place for you. Our favourite spot is the light-filled conservatory, which is the perfect spot to indulge in afternoon tea or a glass of wine under the curved roof.

In the living room, cosy is an understatement – plush sofas beckon you to curl up with a good book beneath the wooden beams, while the wood burner and collection of board games are the very things for chillier nights at home. Come dinnertime, make your way to the kitchen and cook up a storm on the Aga stove, preparing a range of mouth-watering fare to share in the dining room. Better yet, dine alfresco in the sun-kissed garden as the day slowly fades and feel the salt-tinged air on your skin.

 Brinton is a small hamlet tucked away from the more lively spots on the Norfolk Coast. But that doesn't mean it's boring – you'll find excellent walking footpaths and cycling routes along the lanes, as well as an award-winning pub in Hunworth a short drive away. Holt is close by, too – ideal if you're after cafes, art galleries, boutique shops and fantastic restaurants. If it's the sea you crave, head to Wells-next-the-Sea or Holkham – both about a half-hour away by car.

Dating back to 1715, this Grade 2 listed ale house in the North Norfolk town of Holt is a delightful escape. Recently refurbished, the owners have taken great care to restore the original wooden beams, brickwork and fireplaces. We love the bedrooms, all named after teas. After a busy day, there’s nothing better than relaxing in front of the wood burner with some fish and chips from across the road. And of course, pour yourself a pint. You're in a former pub after all.

Surrounded by bustling bars, cafés and shops, you'll have plenty to do in the area. Spend the day strolling through the village – we recommend browsing the local art galleries or having a spot of afternoon tea at one of the many tearooms (there's a charming one right next door). If you're longing for sea and sand, drive fifteen minutes and you'll reach Sheringham Beach and the Norfolk Coast.

This quirky converted church makes for an ideal creative countryside retreat. The open-plan downstairs, where the pews used to be, has been given over to create a vast double-height space with one double bedroom leading off it and a single and master bedroom found upstairs. The building was originally constructed as a Methodist chapel, and it retains some of that spiritual atmosphere, with a piano, drum kit and guitar – plus a fully equipped kitchen – at hand for whenever musical or culinary inspiration strikes.  Located in the village of Briston and just fifteen minutes from the coast, it's a great base to explore the natural beauty of the area and charming towns like Holt and Cromer. The butcher, baker and greengrocer (no candlestick maker, unfortunately), plus a Co-op, are only around a hundred metres away. At the same time, the local pub serves good food and is only a short walk away. If you'd like to see how the other half live, there are many stately homes and gardens to visit nearby, including Sandringham, the Blickling Estate and Holkham Hall, all within a thirty-five-minute drive.

Designed in the Italian garden style, the patio here is sure to transport you from the expansive Norfolk landscape straight to the Italian Renaissance. Dine al fresco, bask in the sunshine and enjoy the sweet smell of the roses in spring and summer. You’re also more than welcome to explore the larger grounds, shared with the owners, to catch a glimpse of the barn owls, pheasants, deer and more. Competitive guests can also engage in a game of tennis on the private court. Inside, the recently converted stable boasts original wood beams, double-height ceilings and a striking, modern mezzanine which connects the main living area to the bedrooms. Luckily, all rooms benefit from large windows that, thanks to this home’s position on the edge of the Glaven Valley, offer picturesque views of the countryside and the abundance of wildlife that lives here.

For trips further afield, we recommend driving to nearby Holt where you can visit the North Norfolk Railway or dip your toes into the sea at Salthouse beach.

The Olde Mint

Built back in 1835, this cottage in the Norfolk town of Holt is approaching its 200th birthday, although you wouldn't be able to tell from the contemporary interior. The soothing palette of muted greys and chic furnishings are completely in keeping with the 21st century rather than the 19th, save for an eclectic collection of curios and mementoes on the shelves.

Arguably the home's best feature is a modern addition – the conservatory is blessed with natural light and is a lovely place to enjoy dinner regardless of the season. It also gives you a view of the back garden, which has another table plus a charcoal barbecue ready and waiting for summer evening feasts.

One thing that hasn't changed in the years since the house has been standing is  the quality of the location. The Georgian architecture of Holt is lovely to wander about and there are shops, cafes and art galleries with which to fill up your afternoon. Further afield, the rugged Norfolk coastline isn't too far away – Salthouse Beach takes ten minutes to reach in the car.

And for explorations further afield, days can be spent embracing the waves on the nearby sandy beaches of Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham (both a short drive away).

Set within an exquisite Grade II-listed house, this palatial apartment blends country elegance with modern style. We loved the floor-to-ceiling windows, which flood the open-place space with natural light. With ground floor access to the beautiful shared garden, you can walk straight out to enjoy a tranquil morning sat around the terrace coffee table, or spend an afternoon having a picnic on the green. Located within walking distance to nearby shops and pubs, you’ll be able to explore the charming village of Binham.  Everything is steeped in history around here, but the early-twelfth-century Benedictine priory is a must-see. Luckily, it's so close you can spot it from the bedroom windows.

This delightful fisherman’s cottage is located in the heart of Blakeney, set within an Area of Outstanding Beauty. The Quay is just a stone’s throw away, which provides ample opportunities for walks, crabbing and visiting local restaurants, as well as for venturing along the coastal path to Morston or Cley-next-the-Sea. This home is also the perfect base for enjoying day trips spent sailing and birdwatching, and children will love going on a boat trip and spotting the seal colony at Blakeney Point. Venture inland to visit the elegant Georgian town of Holt and lose yourself among its many antique shops, art galleries, boutiques and book shops. After a day of activities and taking in the coast’s colossal beauty, return home for a meal alfresco in its large garden and an evening spent playing board games or chatting around the fireplace. A renovated barn in rural north Norfolk, this functional home places you within easy reach of both market towns and the seaside. The long living area fits everyone in for dinner and games, and the large kitchen means you don't need to eat out every night – instead, enjoy the seclusion offered by the home's location and try some rustic cooking. The interior isn't very modern, and the bedrooms look a little dated here. That said, we love the skylights – what a perfect way to wake up in the mornings.
