After a busy day, there’s nothing better than relaxing in front of the wood burner with some fish and chips from across the road. And of course, pour yourself a pint. You're in a former pub after all.

Surrounded by bustling bars, cafés and shops, you'll have plenty to do in the area. Spend the day strolling through the village – we recommend browsing the local art galleries or having a spot of afternoon tea at one of the many tearooms (there's a charming one right next door). If you're longing for sea and sand, drive fifteen minutes and you'll reach Sheringham Beach and the Norfolk Coast.

Norfolk Coast explorers will find Salhouse Beach an eleven-minute drive away, a nice segue to discovering dotted gems further up and down the coastline. And it wouldn't be right for a traditional brick and flint house to not be within walking distance of a quintessentially British pub, which you can find alongside other shops. Though there's no parking available, a car is advisable to make the most of your stay.

Come morning, make yourself a drink, leisurely take in the stylish interiors, and open the kitchen's French doors onto the gorgeous patio. There's plenty to keep you occupied here, such as an electric piano or play some table tennis and pool in the games room. 

The outdoor spaces are a feature of the home. The top area is fully enclosed with mature planting and features a stone terrace on two levels. Then there’s a gate to the lower garden with gentle sloping lawned area, and best of all there’s a small path between the two gardens that leads down to the Norfolk Coastal Path for the use of local residents.

Once you can bear to tear yourself away from this home, explore your town base of Blakeney and its harbour, marshes, and sweeping pretty landscapes. Keen walkers will love the North Norfolk Coastal path to Morston, a combination of sea breeze and stunning views. You’ll find this adults-only, flint cottage tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac just a five-minute stroll from Holt’s thriving high street. Perfect for two couples wanting to holiday together, there are two bathrooms to speed mornings along. The interiors may feel a little dated for some, but it’s all well-cared for, and the garden opening onto a private, enclosed wood with visiting deer is a nice touch. Location-wise, there’s plenty to walk to in Holt, but you’ll need a car for beach days. Get off to a flying start in Blakeney, just five miles away.

Quaint and cosy, this old shoemaker's cottage in the heart of Cromer is a perfect seaside retreat for two. It's just a two-minute walk from Cromer Beach and the Victorian pier, making it a top-notch spot for couples to unwind. 

Inside, the home hasn't lost any of its traditional charm, thanks to the wooden floors, timber beams and vintage furniture. Lighthouses and wooden shoes line the shelves, paying homage to the cottage’s excellent seaside location as well as its history. The living room is warm and comfortable — on chilly nights, snuggle in front of the electric fire with a good book and a glass of wine. While the kitchen is on the smaller side, it still has everything you need to whip up a quick breakfast or light lunch. 

When it's time for dinner, we recommend grabbing a bite to eat at one of the fabulous restaurants, delis, and cafés in town, then finishing off the evening with a nightcap at the pub across the road.

You'll find this flint cottage right in the heart of Field Dalling – a rural town set back from the North Norfolk Heritage Coast. Located within an AONB, you’re perfectly placed for hiking the trails and spotting the wildlife in Blakeney National Nature Reserve, sighting the basking seals on a seal tour through Blakeney Point, or strolling the shores along the heritage coast. 

The options for seaside excursions are endless, but when you're ready to put your walking feet up, come home and relax in this charming and modern cottage. The luscious garden is an excellent spot to soak up the last of the day's sun or stretch out on the plump sofas with a glass of natural wine and the crackling fire. Fix up a comforting dinner in the kitschy kitchen or, if you're not in the mood to cook, grab some fish and chips from your local. We can’t think of a better way to end the day than with a soak in the freestanding copper tub before sinking into your sheets and the log fire flames dancing away in the background.

On arrival at the idyllic Holkham Estate on the North Norfolk coast, you’ll feel like you’ve walked right onto the set of Downton Abbey. You’ll find this charming gatehouse from the mid-1800s on the southern fringes of the estate. Its style is simple and elegant, which lets the gorgeous countryside on the other side of the decorative lead windows do all the talking. Touches such as the log burner in the living room and a winged velvet sofa keep things cosy and faithful to the home’s character. There’s plenty of hiking and cycling to enjoy on the estate, not to mention checking out the grand main house, one of the UK's most spectacular country piles. But our top tip is the windswept Holkham Beach – an unspoilt stretch of coast where Gwyneth Paltrow walked through the sand in the last scene of Shakespeare in Love.

This baby blue timber lodge is just as cute on the inside as it is on the outside. As well as having all the essentials for a romantic getaway, there are house plants, colourful pieces of artwork and a turquoise accent wall to give the place a bit of character without overdoing it — one of the hosts is an interior designer, can't you tell? Out through the glass door, there's a large garden with a cosy seating area at the far end and plenty of potted plants dotted about. You'll find that there's a real sense of peace here. The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.

This yellow cottage dates back to the 1850s, so if you're looking for traditional charm with contemporary twists, this is the place for you. Our favourite spot is the light-filled conservatory, which is the perfect spot to indulge in afternoon tea or a glass of wine under the curved roof.

In the living room, cosy is an understatement – plush sofas beckon you to curl up with a good book beneath the wooden beams, while the wood burner and collection of board games are the very things for chillier nights at home. Come dinnertime, make your way to the kitchen and cook up a storm on the Aga stove, preparing a range of mouth-watering fare to share in the dining room. Better yet, dine alfresco in the sun-kissed garden as the day slowly fades and feel the salt-tinged air on your skin.

 Brinton is a small hamlet tucked away from the more lively spots on the Norfolk Coast. But that doesn't mean it's boring – you'll find excellent walking footpaths and cycling routes along the lanes, as well as an award-winning pub in Hunworth a short drive away. Holt is close by, too – ideal if you're after cafes, art galleries, boutique shops and fantastic restaurants. If it's the sea you crave, head to Wells-next-the-Sea or Holkham – both about a half-hour away by car.

The colourful, light-filled living room benefits from bi-folding patio doors that extend out to a crowd-pleasing garden that boasts a spa-style hot tub, bar area and outdoor seating, so you can spend lazy evenings dipping in-and-out of the jacuzzi, sipping drinks and swapping stories. On chillier nights, chum up and challenge your friends and family to a round of pool or foosball in the games room. As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Sea Salt Harmony

Built back in 1835, this cottage in the Norfolk town of Holt is approaching its 200th birthday, although you wouldn't be able to tell from the contemporary interior. The soothing palette of muted greys and chic furnishings are completely in keeping with the 21st century rather than the 19th, save for an eclectic collection of curios and mementoes on the shelves.

Arguably the home's best feature is a modern addition – the conservatory is blessed with natural light and is a lovely place to enjoy dinner regardless of the season. It also gives you a view of the back garden, which has another table plus a charcoal barbecue ready and waiting for summer evening feasts.

One thing that hasn't changed in the years since the house has been standing is  the quality of the location. The Georgian architecture of Holt is lovely to wander about and there are shops, cafes and art galleries with which to fill up your afternoon. Further afield, the rugged Norfolk coastline isn't too far away – Salthouse Beach takes ten minutes to reach in the car.

Then, afterwards, have a stroll along the Quay, a one-minute walk away, and enjoy some fish and chips or pick up some catch of the day from the pretty harbour. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants, as well as a delicatessen, butchers and fishmonger within a five-minute stroll. Take some local produce back to this lovely home, prepare a meal in the modern kitchen, and then savour it at the table in the sunny courtyard. Or when the weather turns chilly, light the log burning stove (your lovely host provides a starter pack of logs in the colder months) and relax with a glass of wine on the sofa. This stylish cottage is everything you would want from a seaside retreat – we love the original features, such as the old beams, which blend beautifully with the chic furnishings. With so much out and about, too, you’ll probably need to book again to fit it all in.

This charming cottage in the historic Georgian town of Holt awaits you. Get your fluffy socks on and snuggle up by the glowing fireplace as you watch TV with your loved ones – brew some soothing tea or a toasty cup of coffee. The sleek kitchen is the perfect place to bake sweet treats for everyone or a hearty household favourite – this room gets a wonderful amount of daylight from the garden window and the delightful sunlight in the ceiling. 

Meals can be enjoyed at the dining table as you keep warm by the fire or dine alfresco in the pebble garden under the sun, surrounded by traditional stone and brick walls – there's also beautiful greenery and flowers for those with green thumbs. 

Head out to explore the brilliant town of Holt, where you'll find a range of eateries and shops to browse during your time away. There's also a great selection of pubs available for afternoons relaxing over a pint of beer, accompanied by a tasty plate of food. Visit the verdant Natural Surroundings garden, filled to the brim with colourful flowers, or head to the Holt Antiques and Interiors Centre.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

You’ll find this charming brick and flint cottage in the heart of East Runton, a five-minute stroll to the beach and just 1.5 miles from the quintessentially British seaside town of Cromer. Incorporating a mix of original features and modern additions, snooze soundly beneath the whitewashed timber beams in the quiet bedrooms before whipping up a storm in the fully-equipped kitchen. It's just a twenty-minute stroll to Wells-next-the-Sea, too, with its pretty beach huts. Your lovely host has done a fantastic job sympathetically updating this place whilst retaining its original charm. When you're ready for a bit of rest, climb the traditional Norfolk winder stairs to the characterful and comfy bedrooms, before starting another exciting day of Norfolk adventures. This home is perfect for families, couples and friends who want to enjoy the great outdoors all year round.
