Set on the first and second floors of a converted chapel, this apartment has everything you'd expect from a refurbished church – a grand entranceway, stained glass windows, ample living spaces and soaring ceilings. We're absolutely smitten with the whimsical vibe, be it the seashell feature wall in the master bath, the vintage furniture in the downstairs lounge or the collection of cutesy crockery lining the kitchen walls. There are a lot of modern conveniences too, including a Bluetooth speaker, two flat-screen TVs and a remote-controlled shower. And the location couldn't be better – on your doorstep are Holt's charming shops, cosy pubs, quaint cafes and local art galleries. After a day strolling through town or exploring North Norfolk, come back home to fire up the barbecue in the garden for an alfresco meal. Located only a short walk from Happisburgh beach, this stunning barn conversion is a fantastic spot to bring your loved ones and let loose. While the pups are playing in the garden, you can chill out in the shade with a cocktail recipe that took you mane iterations to perfect and play scrabble to showcase your enviable vocabulary. Take the tribe to the beach whenever you feel like and when the weather is nice, have a picnic there too. On lazier days, you might only make it as far as the orchard garden, but that's more than fine as long as you remember to relax. When you feel like embarking on a day trip, Norfolk will provide plenty of fascinating destinations ranging from war memorials to famous tearooms.

If you're after a home that's got space for you and your beloved pooch(es), we've found one that's just 'paw-fect' (we can't promise that won't be the last dog pun). A gorgeous barn conversion close to the wind-whipped Norfolk coast, this home has been set up with dog lovers in mind. There's enough space for up to four of your furry friends to join, with a lavish fleece-lined bed for each, throws for those that just won't stay off the sofa, an enclosed garden and a special dog hamper to welcome them. Two-legged guests will love the open-plan living and dining area, the AGA in the kitchen, comfy sofas and plenty of games. You'll definitely want to keep the dogs out of the bedrooms, though, as the Egyptian cotton bedding is far too sumptuous to share. Nearby there are lots of dog-friendly woodland and beach walks, and local pub The Star Inn will be happy to welcome you and your tail-wagging companions. After a day out exploring the best of the north Norfolk coast, treat yourself to a soak in the hot tub looking out over the surrounding fields. If you want to explore further afield, head twenty miles north to Cromer, known as 'the gem of the Norfolk coast'. We think it makes for the 'ulti-mutt' escape.

Set within 100 acres of parkland, these former stables put open countryside walks and wildlife on your doorstep. Wander across the fields to the deserted medieval village of Godwick, where a ruined church tower juts out from the ground. It’s also a half-hour drive to Wells-Next-the-Sea, a pretty seaside town in the Norfolk Coast AONB. The 19th-century stable block has been transformed into a cosy country bolthole for a family or group of friends. You can spot the village’s old church tower from your private garden, where a patio provides a place to sit in the sun and fire up the gas barbecue, and a vast lawn stretches before you. Or, head inside to the sunny kitchen diner where dining is set for the whole group. Scandi-chic interiors make for a relaxing living room, set around a traditional wood-burning stove should the weather turn chilly. Bedrooms blend in with the estate’s wonderful ladscape, with autumnal tree motifs on feature walls lulling you off to sleep. The only sounds around here are the swish of towering trees and birdsong in the morning.

As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Nestled on the edge of Holkham Estate, this lodge is somewhere you can truly immerse yourself in nature yet still have the coast within easy reach. Perfect for couples and those keen to bring their four-legged friends along for the stay, there are countryside walks from your doorstep, with a stroll through Holkham Park a must. The enclosed garden is just the place for wildlife spotting as you relax in the evening, while locally, if you fancy a beach day, Holkham Bay is just a short drive away.

This baby blue timber lodge is just as cute on the inside as it is on the outside. As well as having all the essentials for a romantic getaway, there are house plants, colourful pieces of artwork and a turquoise accent wall to give the place a bit of character without overdoing it — one of the hosts is an interior designer, can't you tell? Out through the glass door, there's a large garden with a cosy seating area at the far end and plenty of potted plants dotted about. You'll find that there's a real sense of peace here. The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.

Don't you just love a garden with a sea view? Even better, this charming semi-detached cottage is next to a lighthouse, built in 1833. There's no need to worry – the lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be jumping whenever it's misty (though it does need regular maintenance, so staff may visit during your stay). Even inside, you can admire the vistas of the lighthouse, sea and neighbouring golf course (yes, you heard that right, golf lovers). If you prefer the beach, Cromer, with its traditional pier and colourful beach huts, is a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path.

Perched on the edge of Blickling Hall Estate and fringing the chocolate-box village of Oulton, the setting for this adult-only hideaway is dreamy. All the cottagecore essentials are ticked off with original beams, a wood-burning stove, and a pretty, south-facing garden to call your own. Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

The kitchen, with its gas range cooker and oodles of prep space, is more than big enough for the bustle of family breakfast time, and the old servant’s bells are still on display. Tucked into a corner of the kitchen you'll find a little TV snug, warmed by the purr of an Aga. While the tiny villages of Norfolk offer postcard-ready, rural scenes that you would expect, this home has quite the opposite of a rustic aesthetic. A two-minute stroll from the nearest pub in Banningham, or an eighteen-minute drive to coastal delights like the pier of Cromer, you can still enjoy traditional activities – but in a rather modern setting.

The exterior presents a cottage-like feel with red bricks and chunky timber supports propping up a slate roof. And that’s where the rustic feel ends. Step inside to beautifully 21st-century interiors, where the apex ceiling and bright white walls create an impressive sense of space and zen.

Kick off your walking boots and sink into the plush sofa while you look through the generous welcome hamper from your host. Whether you fancy a cup of tea, or wine is more your tipple, anything will go well with fresh bread and homemade cake. And you don’t need to prepare lunch either (although it’s a delight to cook in the sleek kitchen or on the barbecue), as your host can arrange for a private chef to make your meals in-house. We recommend dining alfresco in the lush, secluded garden – listen to birds sing while you savour every last bite on the sunny patio.

The Firecrest

This quirky converted church makes for an ideal creative countryside retreat. The open-plan downstairs, where the pews used to be, has been given over to create a vast double-height space with one double bedroom leading off it and a single and master bedroom found upstairs. The building was originally constructed as a Methodist chapel, and it retains some of that spiritual atmosphere, with a piano, drum kit and guitar – plus a fully equipped kitchen – at hand for whenever musical or culinary inspiration strikes.  Located in the village of Briston and just fifteen minutes from the coast, it's a great base to explore the natural beauty of the area and charming towns like Holt and Cromer. The butcher, baker and greengrocer (no candlestick maker, unfortunately), plus a Co-op, are only around a hundred metres away. At the same time, the local pub serves good food and is only a short walk away. If you'd like to see how the other half live, there are many stately homes and gardens to visit nearby, including Sandringham, the Blickling Estate and Holkham Hall, all within a thirty-five-minute drive.

If you're travelling with furry friends in tow, look no further than this thatched-roof cottage close to the Norfolk coastline. 

Throws for sofas, dog bowls, bags and biscuits all come as standard. Tiled floors downstairs mean there’s no need to worry about muddy paw prints on carpets, and if you don’t fancy one of the many great walks on the doorstep, you can just let them exercise themselves in the garden. Even the local pub — the Lessingham Star, a couple of minutes’ walk — is dog-friendly.

Of course, you don’t need a hound to enjoy this fantastic house. The owners are former residents and it still very much has the feel of a family home. Downstairs, there are plenty of cosy living rooms and snugs in which to rest up after long rambles. In the country-style kitchen, there's an electric range oven for the full rural fantasy, although there's a barbecue out on the terrace if the weather's on your side. Come nighttime, you might be able to see bats or hear owls, foxes and deer from the nearby woodland.

When you want an afternoon out, there's a hedge-lined grassy track that will take you to Sea Palling beach in twenty minutes' walk and the Norfolk Broads can be reached in no more than five minutes in the car. The city of Norwich is a forty-five-minute drive away, too.

A former pub built over 300 years ago, this stunning home in the quiet village of South Creake near the North Norfolk Coast is the perfect place for a group of friends or family to spend quality time together. From its two comfortable living areas to its sunny conservatory, games room and huge garden, this home is made for indulgent relaxation. Enjoy your morning coffee in the conservatory while you watch the ducklings splash in the garden’s stream. Then set off to explore Burnham Market and Wells-next-the-Sea, both just eight minutes away by car, or the coast, reachable in twenty. Back at home, kick back with a movie in the film room, curl up by the living room’s wood-burning fire, or treat yourself to a wonderfully calming at-home massage. There's also a dedicated office for those planning to work from home and a fun-filled games room in the garage with darts, an arcade game console, and a pool table. Perfect for pups, this lovely cottage has everything you and your four-legged friends will need for a seaside getaway. It's incredibly dog-friendly, with heaps of features that dog owners will appreciate – an enclosed, astroturf courtyard (no muddy paws!), easy-clean laminate floors, bowls and crates, and a comfy white sofa that looks stylish but is easy to wipe down. Even without a pooch, you'll be happy to call this annexe home. It's bright, inviting and has plenty of charm. Owners Tracie and Neil are highly knowledgeable about the area and keep a cosy, traditional home – they live next door but can be as hands-on (or off) as you need. We love their attention to detail, and a few unique pieces were handcrafted by Neil, including the TV stand converted from a Singer sewing machine, the pine coffee table and the light fittings. Set in the coastal village of Happisburgh, there's a lot to keep you busy. After an alfresco breakfast, lace up your boots and take a walk along the beach – both Cart Gap and Happisburgh Beach are a twenty-minute stroll away. You can't miss the bold red-and-white-striped lighthouse along the sea – it's the oldest working one in East Anglia – but other places worth exploring include the lush Bacton Woods and the collection of inns and pubs serving traditional English food along the seaside.

With its thatched roof and shuttered windows, you couldn't ask for a cuter cottage than this Grade-II listed address sitting in the middle of a country estate in rural Norfolk.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.
