There's no denying that this is a city brimming with history, and this apartment is right in the thick of it, mere steps from Norwich Castle. An endless array of restaurants, bars and boutiques are quite literally on your doorstep, while the cathedral is walkable in eight minutes. Location-wise, it's pretty much perfect, but that's not the only reason why we love this flat.

Inside, the space is bright and super stylish, with a sleek kitchen and an open-plan living area where you can kick back and relax after a busy day. The design includes a lot of natural elements – rattan baskets, wooden floors and neutral hues – and together, they create a laid-back and soothing space that's a welcome retreat following an afternoon exploring the bustling streets. You’ll find everything you need here, from garden games for fun in the private walled garden to a hot tub and sauna. Wood burners keep you cosy, and when the sun shines there’s a barbecue in the garden for sunny afternoons of outdoor fun. 

The farmhouse is in a quiet countryside setting, so you can really relax and unwind. Days out might include a trip to the seaside at Cromer, which is a twenty-minute drive, or a walk to Bryant’s Heath and back – the path passes the church in the village and takes thirty-eight minutes one-way. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails straight from the front door, so you can really work up an appetite before returning for dinner in the stylish dining room.

This stylish home is located within easy walking distance of Norwich city centre, where you'll find an array of shops, bars, restaurants, and museums. A city rich in Medieval history, we'd recommend a visit to Norwich's famous 11th-century market. Or have a stroll around Norwich Lanes and its independent boutiques. Other attractions include the smallest pub in the UK and Norwich Cathedral, while a little further afield, Whitlingham Lake is worth a look, especially if you like water activities such as kayaking and canoeing.

Back at this home, pour a glass of wine and stroll through the grey-painted French doors into the pretty courtyard garden with its climbing plants meandering up the walls. Or relax inside with one of the books from the living or dining room shelves. Upstairs, we love the main bedroom with its plush mustard velvet sofa – the perfect spot for a cheeky G&T. Outside, there is a peaceful garden with a barbecue and plenty to explore. From here, it’s just a short drive to the village of Acle while the North Norfolk Coast is just 30 miles away.

There's a lot to love about this converted barn in the heart of the Norfolk countryside. And its peaceful setting, surrounded by woodlands, water meadows and gardens are just the beginning. How about a tennis court? And, of course, what would a home in the Broads be without water access? This place has it all. On the River Bure, adventurous types can bring a canoe or paddle board, and even paddle along to the nearby riverside pub. You'll have your own fishing spot if that's how you prefer to spend your afternoons, or just bring your binoculars and look out for otters, kingfishers and more. Indoors, it's a bright and modern space, with a sociable living area and stylish kitchen – complete with a huge island. Patio doors open to a private terrace, and we love the vaulted ceilings and stripped-back original beams. There's a bedroom on the ground floor, with direct access outside, and the family bathroom is on that level too, while the master and third bedroom are upstairs (the third having a unique, low level window overlooking the dining room). With fifteen acres of land to explore, there are great walks to be had from your doorstep, and here you'll be about twenty minutes by car from Norwich in one direction, and the stunning Norfolk coast in the other.

With a hot tub and pizza oven in the garden and a cosy wood-burning stove for wintery nights, there's much to like about this elegant Norfolk Broads countryside home. Wake up to chirping birds from your plush bed before preparing a leisurely breakfast in your country kitchen of farm-fresh eggs and crusty rye bread – we think the patio dining table is a serene spot to enjoy your hard work, accompanied by a freshly brewed coffee.  

Spend a day exploring the grounds or spot the local birdlife on a water-trail boat tour on The Broads. Not all the best attractions are saved for the summer months – head to Horsey Beach in the winter to see the grey seals during the birthing season. Regardless of the time of year, this piece of sandy beach is a pleasure all year round – you might still catch views of seals who’ve stuck around for some sun. If you're seeking a culinary experience, there are some charming local pubs in the area. As evening rolls around, pocket a few balls on the pool table, and enjoy a round of table tennis or air hockey, before sinking into the garden hot tub for a soak session under the stars.

The former home of the head gardener, this Georgian building boasts its own walled garden and numerous character features – not least its beautiful arched windows. A simple, elegant cottage that's been modernised without losing its charm, it's now perfect for a special break in the countryside.

Along with a games room with all sorts of fun activities for all the family, there's a large lawn and an outdoor dining terrace, plus a little modern luxury in the form of a hot tub. Elsewhere, a comfortable living room, cosy library and sociable eat-in kitchen provide plenty of living space for a family or a small group of friends, and pretty bedrooms and bathrooms offer a tranquil retreat. Spend your time walking in the wider parkland, head to the nearby Broads or drive to the coast in less than half an hour.

Perched on the edge of Blickling Hall Estate and fringing the chocolate-box village of Oulton, the setting for this adult-only hideaway is dreamy. All the cottagecore essentials are ticked off with original beams, a wood-burning stove, and a pretty, south-facing garden to call your own. Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

There are too many good things about The Hobart Spring to list, but suffice to say that it’s every bit as good as it looks. Most of the buildings date to the 1470s, when Sir James Hobart (later attorney general to the king) built his family home. Our favourite room (not an easy decision) is the kitchen, which looks beautifully traditional, but alongside the Aga, has an electric oven, gas hob, espresso machine and more. You can also pick herbs from the raised beds in the back. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

The Hobart Spring

With its thatched roof and shuttered windows, you couldn't ask for a cuter cottage than this Grade-II listed address sitting in the middle of a country estate in rural Norfolk.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.
