There's no denying that this is a city brimming with history, and this apartment is right in the thick of it, mere steps from Norwich Castle. Location-wise, it's pretty much perfect, but that's not the only reason why we love this flat.

The design includes a lot of natural elements – rattan baskets, wooden floors and neutral hues – and together, they create a laid-back and soothing space that's a welcome retreat following an afternoon exploring the bustling streets. A city rich in Medieval history, we'd recommend a visit to Norwich's famous 11th-century market. Or have a stroll around Norwich Lanes and its independent boutiques. Other attractions include the smallest pub in the UK and Norwich Cathedral, while a little further afield, Whitlingham Lake is worth a look, especially if you like water activities such as kayaking and canoeing.

Back at this home, pour a glass of wine and stroll through the grey-painted French doors into the pretty courtyard garden with its climbing plants meandering up the walls. Or relax inside with one of the books from the living or dining room shelves. Upstairs, we love the main bedroom with its plush mustard velvet sofa – the perfect spot for a cheeky G&T. With fifteen acres of land to explore, there are great walks to be had from your doorstep, and here you'll be about twenty minutes by car from Norwich in one direction, and the stunning Norfolk coast in the other.

In the evening, when the weather allows it, we would love nothing more than to dine alfresco in the garden at this home. Then, snuggle up inside with a good book or play a board game together.

This cosy barn sits on the edge of the Norfolk Broads, where it offers the ideal setting for a relaxing group getaway. Inside, you’ll find plenty of socialising space across the kitchen and living room. There is also a mezzanine snug with a handy desk for remote workers, plus two of the bedrooms can be arranged as doubles or singles to accommodate flexible sleeping arrangements. This home nestled in the picturesque countryside of North Tuddenham, Norfolk has a history. The 16th-century rectory, once home to poet William Cowper, was replaced in 1852 by Rev Barry, brother of the Parliament architect. You’ll find traditional features here, and steep stairs leading to certain parts of the home, so keep that in mind. There’s a beautiful garden with a west-facing terrace for summer barbecues, a childproofed pond, and an outdoor tennis court. Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

There are too many good things about The Hobart Spring to list, but suffice to say that it’s every bit as good as it looks. Most of the buildings date to the 1470s, when Sir James Hobart (later attorney general to the king) built his family home. Our favourite room (not an easy decision) is the kitchen, which looks beautifully traditional, but alongside the Aga, has an electric oven, gas hob, espresso machine and more. You can also pick herbs from the raised beds in the back. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

This baby blue timber lodge is just as cute on the inside as it is on the outside. As well as having all the essentials for a romantic getaway, there are house plants, colourful pieces of artwork and a turquoise accent wall to give the place a bit of character without overdoing it — one of the hosts is an interior designer, can't you tell? Out through the glass door, there's a large garden with a cosy seating area at the far end and plenty of potted plants dotted about. You'll find that there's a real sense of peace here. The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.

Dating back as far as the 1470s when Sir James Hobart (a confidante of Henry VII) built a family estate, This home is one of the most spectacular places we’ve ever seen and truly perfect for family gatherings, breaks away with friends, weddings, and more. Step into history oozing with the finest luxury afforded to the home's guests, including ample space as, on top of the main hall, there’s also the Gatehouse, the Cottage, and the Garden Rooms, as well a separate barn for hosting events, and of course the grounds. The history of this home has been preserved immaculately, while at the same time, modern comforts are around every corner. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

The facilities available at the hall are second to none, with no need or whim uncatered for, including perfectly equipped kitchens, games room, library, a wealth of entertainment, cosy open fires and woodburners, lawns and meadows, and even a moat, and should you wish to prize yourself away from this phenomenal home and head on out to explore, the bustling seaside town of Great Yarmouth is just a twenty-seven-minute drive away, while the Norwich city centre can be reached in twenty-two minutes by car, and is perfect for those shopping needs. We highly recommend trying out the cosy pubs around the area for a good pint and perfect company.

You'll find this imposing home set within a 300-acre historic parkland at the centre of a North Norfolk private estate. The former home of the head gardener, this Georgian building boasts its own walled garden and numerous character features – not least its beautiful arched windows. A simple, elegant cottage that's been modernised without losing its charm, it's now perfect for a special break in the countryside.

Along with a games room with all sorts of fun activities for all the family, there's a large lawn and an outdoor dining terrace, plus a little modern luxury in the form of a hot tub. Spend your time walking in the wider parkland, head to the nearby Broads or drive to the coast in less than half an hour.

The house itself is cosy and comfortable, with more than enough space even with up to five guests sleeping on sofa beds in the living areas. As for your locations, this cottage is tucked away in the 'Capital of The Broads', close to the Broads National Park. Norwich is a short drive away, and a few beaches dotted along the coast lies within driving distance.

With its thatched roof and shuttered windows, you couldn't ask for a cuter cottage than this Grade-II listed address sitting in the middle of a country estate in rural Norfolk.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.

Although the Norfolk coastline is only half an hour's drive away, you don't even have to get in the car if you fancy a refreshing dip while staying here. Out in the garden, a heated swimming pool will be the place to play and relax all throughout the summer months.

When the British weather has other ideas, however, there's plenty to like about the home's interior, too. The long living room benefits from big windows at either end so there's plenty of natural light, while the kitchen is both generous with surface space and finished in a fetching shade of mint green.

In the local area, there are distractions to appeal to guests of all persuasions. BeWILDerwood theme park takes seven minutes to reach in the car, while Wroxham Barns is a twelve-minute drive away. There's no shortage of walking routes and watersports opportunities in the surrounding Norfolk Broads as well.

What makes this home unforgettable is the amazing access to the gorgeous surrounding lake, fitted with a boat berth and kayak for all of your boating needs – we recommend sitting on the deck as you dip your feet in the water while you sip on a cup of coffee or glass of wine. From the lake, you'll find that you're encompassed by plenty of greenery in this incredibly peaceful and rural spot.

Evenings can be spent playing on the pool table as you challenge your loved ones to some games. Watch the sunset in the evenings from the alcove sofa in the dining room with a book as you sink into the comfy cushions – you may spot the local birds flying to their nests as the amber glow closes in. 

The city centre of Norwich is only a twenty–two–minute drive away and is filled to the brim with eateries, shops to browse, and charming pubs to while the hours away as a family. Bracon Ash is a short walk away with a wonderful playground for the children as you tuck into a light bite under the sun – or a tasty homemade picnic.

Cosy and charming, this chocolate box cottage dates back to 1714 and is absolutely brimming with traditional character. Original fireplaces and bread ovens, exposed brick walls and wooden beams – no wonder it's Grade II-listed. And, surprisingly, it's super roomy, with multiple living spaces, a high-spec kitchen and a small conservatory that's the perfect spot to sip a cup of tea in the sunshine. After rustling up dinner in the country kitchen (which is has everything you'll need to cook), sprawl out on the squishy leather sofas for a movie night – there's Prime, Netflix and Disney+, so you'll have plenty of options. On summer days, take your relaxing out into the enclosed garden, nursing a glass of wine or firing up the barbecue as the kids (and dogs) let loose in the fresh air.

Nestled in Salhouse in the idyllic Norfolk Broads, this area calls for long walks through the beautiful countryside and boat rides down the River Bure. There are two fantastic village pubs and a quaint tea room within walking distance, plus many more along the water in the Broads. It's a twenty-five-minute drive to Caister-on-Sea if you fancy a beach day, and fifteen to Norwich when you crave a bit more pace. All in all, this is a lovely spot for the whole family to unwind and recharge.

This converted mill is a dreamy place to while away a few days. Nestled in the rolling Norfolk countryside, it's the perfect place to begin your adventures in this lovely corner of England. 

There are 200 years of history steeped in this wonderful home, and you'll find period details everywhere, from the brickwork to the beamed ceilings. The unique layout, with its gallery study overlooking the main living space, just adds to the charm. Catch up on some work at the desk, or select a novel from the collection and curl up beside the roaring log fire to get toasty. And, on warm days, you can head out to the garden for a game of table tennis, or simply sip a glass of wine on the terrace as you gaze out at the water below. 

From here, walkers and cyclists can hit the trails to explore – or, hire a boat and glide through the landscapes. History buffs will be intrigued by the Whitwell & Reepham Railway Station, just a fifteen-minute walk away from the home. And, if you fancy a day at the seaside, you can drive over to Cromer in around thirty-five minutes to hit the beach. 

The Norfolk Mill

Looking at this modern home, set in the rural countryside of Norfolk, you might not be fully convinced of its former life as a dilapidated cattle farm, but the clues are there if you know where to look. The wooden beams, for one, add plenty of character and warmth, and so does the exposed brick.

The other benefit of it having been a farm, is that there is acreage for days. In almost every direction you look, you’ll be met with untamed flora to make mornings seated out front with a fresh coffee the sort of peaceful affair you need to fully unwind. On balmier days, spend time out barbecuing, a local cider in hand, or if that seems like too much effort, open the bifold doors and let the breeze into the living area where we hope you’ll be plopped on the sofa with a good book.

Between this gorgeous space – inside and out – and the hot tub, you might not have time for much else, but don’t let the quintessential pub visit stay on the bucket list. Besides, there’s nothing like a fish and chip lunch after a visit to one of the sandy beaches.
