Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this.

You can spot the village’s old church tower from your private garden, where a patio provides a place to sit in the sun and fire up the gas barbecue, and a vast lawn stretches before you. Or, head inside to the sunny kitchen diner where dining is set for the whole group. Scandi-chic interiors make for a relaxing living room, set around a traditional wood-burning stove should the weather turn chilly. As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Sea Salt Harmony

This old dairy, set on the Burghley Estate, is a peaceful getaway for large groups and makes a pretty picture for small celebrations. Throughout the restoration of the dairy and its conversion into cottages, an emphasis remained on the history of this building, and plenty of the original features remain to make this a charming and comfortable stay. With two wings, it also grants everyone plenty of space, though the mezzanine bedrooms can only be accessed through several ground-floor rooms, which might not feel the most private. Still, it's a beautiful space, and the estate is within the Capability Brown Parkland, first landscaped in the early 1700s and still as lush and inviting, perfect for walks with the dogs.

Now a working farm, it's surrounded by four hundred acres of gloriously green pastures and ancient parkland – inhabited by herds of red deer, muntjac and an array of birdlife – which you're encouraged to explore. Here, you're just shy of a twenty-minute drive from the picturesque cathedral city of Norwich and the enchanting Norfolk Broads.

The exquisitely renovated interior is cosy and welcoming. Hardwood floors, exposed brickwork, and beam-clad ceilings offer a characterful canvas primed for relaxation. We especially love the sitting room with its plush velvet sofas and wood-burning fireplace, not to mention the delightful country-house kitchen, where a spacious dining table offers a lovely space for homecooked feasts with your clan. 

Framed by a grade-two listed stone wall and dense woodland, a private south-facing garden beckons you to feel completely immersed in nature. After a restful slumber in Egyptian cotton linens, step outside and enjoy your morning brew to the sound of birdsong and gently rustling leaves. Between adventures, spend your days sunbathing on the lawn, reading in the conservatory and, come sunset, sipping cocktails on the furnished patio.

The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.
