If this characterful Norfolk cottage were any sweeter, we’d eat it right up. The exterior is pure chocolate box, and the inside is bursting with beamed period charm. The host is an interior designer with a true collector’s eye and has filled the cottage with an eclectic mix of vintage pieces and curios. From taxidermy vignettes to Serge Moullie inspired art, there are unexpected details at every turn. 

Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. You’re just a short drive from North Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches, and the bustling town of Burnham Market. If you don’t feel like a drive, the surrounding countryside is ripe for walking, and the local pub is just five minutes away. 

Pound Cake

Nestled on the edge of Holkham Estate, this lodge is somewhere you can truly immerse yourself in nature yet still have the coast within easy reach. Perfect for couples and those keen to bring their four-legged friends along for the stay, there are countryside walks from your doorstep, with a stroll through Holkham Park a must. The enclosed garden is just the place for wildlife spotting as you relax in the evening, while locally, if you fancy a beach day, Holkham Bay is just a short drive away. 

The Sea Is You

If you're after a home that's got space for you and your beloved pooch(es), we've found one that's just 'paw-fect' (we can't promise that won't be the last dog pun). A gorgeous barn conversion close to the wind-whipped Norfolk coast, this home has been set up with dog lovers in mind. There's enough space for up to four of your furry friends to join, with a lavish fleece-lined bed for each, throws for those that just won't stay off the sofa, an enclosed garden and a special dog hamper to welcome them. Two-legged guests will love the open-plan living and dining area, the AGA in the kitchen, comfy sofas and plenty of games. You'll definitely want to keep the dogs out of the bedrooms, though, as the Egyptian cotton bedding is far too sumptuous to share. Nearby there are lots of dog-friendly woodland and beach walks, and local pub The Star Inn will be happy to welcome you and your tail-wagging companions. After a day out exploring the best of the north Norfolk coast, treat yourself to a soak in the hot tub looking out over the surrounding fields. If you want to explore further afield, head twenty miles north to Cromer, known as 'the gem of the Norfolk coast'. We think it makes for the 'ulti-mutt' escape.

It's A Dog's Life

As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Sea Salt Harmony

A rural retreat with an almost embarrassing amount of charm, this thatched home dates back centuries and represents the best of Norfolk's architectural style. Carefully modernised and curated with stylish wall colours, art and a mix of antique and contemporary furniture, it's a fabulous space to unwind in unique surroundings. As well as a stunning historic home, it boasts a large, enclosed garden and a summer house to die for.  

Inside, the stripped-back, authentic character of this place is evident in the ancient beams, brick floors and inglenook fireplace. A comfy velvet sofa provides a modern twist but otherwise, the living room is dressed like it would have been a hundred years ago or so. Elsewhere there's a delightful country kitchen, a casual dining room and a midnight-blue TV room, along with a useful utility room and three gorgeous bedrooms.

And outside you'll find pretty gardens, along with a greenhouse and a deck for enjoying the sun. Step inside the summer house for the biggest surprise though. A lovely space for friends and family to socialise and eat together, it comes with a Scandinavian-style indoor barbecue cabin. 

Around half an hour's drive from both Diss and Norwich, you'll be deep in the country here so a car is essential, but there are great walks to be had nearby and the coast is around forty-five minutes away. Visit Southwold, Lowestoft and more for days out by the sea.



Reedgrass & Tallow

If you’re looking for a real away-from-it-all retreat that’s truly one of a kind, then look no further than this home on the Norfolk Coast. Featured on Channel 4's Homes by the Sea, it’s located right next to the dunes at Winterton-on-Sea, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A former working lighthouse, it’s perfect for a peaceful stay with a surreal fairytale quality. When we visited, we were particularly impressed by the unusual round rooms that stack up on top of one another. Once filled with nautical equipment, these are now well designed spaces with beautiful furniture and objects, including an impressive library, bunk-bed room for kids, living room, and finally a lofty viewing platform bedroom (not for the faint hearted). Down on ground level you’ll find a contemporary open-plan space where you can cook in the shiny stainless steel kitchen or bask in the warmth of the wood burner as you eat dinner in the relaxed dining area. Folding doors give access out into the small garden for picnics or al fresco breakfasts. Families in particular will love the easy access to seaside life, including great fish and chips, good local pubs, parks and boat-trips. The Norfolk Broads is also nearby; the UK's largest wetland area, it's perfect for boating, cycling and walking. In short, this is a great home for those who want to experience everything a Norfolk staycation has to offer, while staying somewhere with real wow factor. 

The Norfolk Beacon

Cley Serenity

A former pub built over 300 years ago, this stunning home in the quiet village of South Creake near the North Norfolk Coast is the perfect place for a group of friends or family to spend quality time together. From its two comfortable living areas to its sunny conservatory, games room and huge garden, this home is made for indulgent relaxation. Enjoy your morning coffee in the conservatory while you watch the ducklings splash in the garden’s stream. Then set off to explore Burnham Market and Wells-next-the-Sea, both just eight minutes away by car, or the coast, reachable in twenty. The Old Chequers

Experience a rare treat – a stay at a truly grand stately home, nestled in the middle of a beautiful country estate, steeped in history and offering more than a taste of luxury. A filming location for Netflix’s uber-popular hit, The Crown, this home will make you feel like royalty from the moment you arrive. 

Dating back to the Saxon times, the house as it appears today was created during the reign of Queen Victoria, with the help of the visionary architect, John Thomas and renowned landscape designer William Andrews Nesfield. As you arrive you’ll be dazzled by the spectacular gardens, known as one of the finest in the country – guests will be able to spend hours wandering through the enchanted alleyways, exploring the maze and the parkland and cooling off in the wild freshwater pool. 

The main Hall will welcome you in lavish style – great rooms with grand pianos, a library with rare, gilded books, and dining rooms with long tables for the group to gather and celebrate special occasions or delicious family feasts served in true style. You'll be able to sample those unforgettable menus, created by a team of chefs who use only the best local and sustainably sourced produce. Outside, this family-run estate offers everything from bike trails, horse stables and woodland walks, to cocktail classes, wine tastings and foraging. The grand rewilding project has seen 1,000 acres become home to an abundance of wildlife, making a stay here a unique experience for nature lovers too. 

Lords & Ladies

If you're looking for somewhere that embraces slow country living yet has all the little luxuries you'll need for a getaway, this converted goat shed is sure to do the trick. Situated on the grounds of a family-run farm dating back as far as the 1300s, we think it's the perfect bolthole for a romantic, restful weekend in the great outdoors.

Inside, vaulted ceilings sport original wooden beams, while enormous glass walls flood the space with sunlight. Books and board games line the shelves, cushy sofas are perfect for snuggling and a delightful wood burner keeps everything toasty warm on chilly evenings. We love the small but well-equipped kitchen – you'll have everything you need to rustle up dinner – and the sumptuous bathtub is just the ticket after an invigorating walk through the countryside. On summer days, take your relaxing onto the private courtyard garden, gathering around the fire pit and firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast when you grow peckish.

Spend sunny afternoons strolling around the farm, admiring the prehistoric ponds – they're some of the last remaining ones in the country. This home is nestled in the heart of the Brecks, where wild forests, craggy heaths and twisted pines are rife for rambling. It sits along the Peddars Way – ideal for walkers, cyclers and horseback riders travelling along the ancient route – plus it's within easy reach of Norwich and an hour's drive from Norfolk's stunning beaches when you fancy a day by the sea.

The Goat Shed

Set in the peaceful village of Horningtoft, this beautifully converted 19th-century chapel offers a cosy countryside escape. Inside, the open-plan layout feels bright and inviting, with a mezzanine sleeping area and views over the surrounding fields. The private garden is perfect for outdoor dining, where you can watch the sunset and sometimes a barn owl across the paddock. With Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham Hall, and the North Norfolk coast just a short drive away, it’s an idyllic base for exploring the region’s beauty and heritage.

The Manor Abode

Large groups looking to explore the expansive Norfolk landscape will love all that this stunning Georgian home has to offer. Located just a fifteen-minute walk from the charming village of Somerleyton, with its grand hall and traditional pubs, there's plenty to see and do in the area – walking, and cycle paths, boats for hire in St. Olaves. The nearest beach is a quick ten-minute drive away, while the lovely seaside towns of Gorleston and Great Yarmouth are approximately twenty minutes in the car. But we really wouldn't blame you if you stayed put at home. After all, the main house boasts a pool table, a large lounge, an impressive dining room and four elegant bedrooms. On top of that, guests can delight in sweeping views of Waveney Valley. Wander out into the sprawling picturesque garden, and you’ll find a rustic fire pit and wood-burning hot tub to pass the time in. There’s also a delightful shepherd's hut where two additional guests can stay, providing an intimate space to enjoy a little more peace, quiet and privacy close to nature. Reconnect with the countryside at this lovely retreat and explore the Norfolk Broads and Suffolk Heritage Coast.
