Everything you'll need is taken care of, so all you have to do is sit back and relax. The grey colour scheme is slick and modern, especially in the kitchen – with plenty of counter space, appliances and crockery, cooking is anything but a chore. But when you don't fancy whipping up something, there's a great collection of restaurants, pubs and cafes on your doorstep, plus plenty of shops, boutiques and activities to keep you entertained. Enjoy a morning stroll along the statue-lined promenade or grab a towel and sprawl out on the huge stretch of sand at Filey Beach. It's a view best enjoyed curled up on the sofas with a glass of something crisp. And while the interiors verge more towards the classic than contemporary, everywhere is immaculately maintained, so you can drop off your bags and hit the town the running here. 

Get off to a flying start at the Esplanade with its Italian Gardens and, of course, the Spa Leisure Complex. Feeling peckish? Then mooch along to Ramshill Road, just a short walk away, with its delicatessens and coffee shops for a bite to eat. Then the rest of the day is yours to embrace Scarborough’s seaside charms down at the beach or drink up the postcard panoramas of the dramatic coastline from the 300-year-old Scarborough Castle.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

Begin with a gentle stroll around the peaceful Peasholm Park, just ten minutes from your doorstep. If the sun is shining, make haste to Scarborough Beach, reached in fifteen minutes by foot, for a dip in the North Sea and an ice cream on the promenade. Peruse the Scarborough Art Gallery, watch the boats to and fro from the harbour, and finish the afternoon with a platter of fish and chips in a revered restaurant in the heart of town. 

Cool Orange

With its dune-backed beaches, charming fishing harbour and idyllic position on the Northumberland Coast, Seahouses makes a brilliant base for a seaside getaway. This apartment puts you within striking distance of all it offers. Back home, you'll find a cosy living area ideal for winding down after a day in the sun. It's not the roomiest layout, but we think it'll work well for a couple – and the private parking is a nice perk. The only downsides are the car park views and lack of outside space. But, as the beach is a short stroll away, we don't think you'll mind too much.
