This home in Egton is the perfect compromise between seclusion and a beach holiday. With only six miles separating you from the seaside town of Whitby, you can easily take a quick road trip to spend the day on the sandy shores of West Cliff beach. Whilst there, be sure to walk the promenade for a gorgeous view of the Church of Saint Mary and try your hand at the claw machine in the pier arcade. After a lunch of fresh seafood, head to the Whitby Abbey, a fourteen-minute walk from Whitby Beach, to visit the renowned ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s gothic novel Dracula.

Back home, take in the tranquillity of the secluded escape by sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee. Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. The thick, snuggly carpet is in–keeping with the home's plush appeal, meanwhile the luxury bedlinen in all three bedrooms promises to keep you comfortable and snug after a busy day exploring the Yorkshire coast.

The interior really is spectacular, but if we had to pick just one feature we're head–over–heels in love with, it would have to be the living room telescope. In terms of getting around and exploring your surroundings, you couldn't be in a better spot. Pretty much everything is within walking distance, meaning there's no need to get the car out – you can just pull your shoes on and tour Whitby by foot. The promenade is just a short stroll from the apartment and a bunch of fun arcades and fresh fish restaurants can be found on Pier Road.

Holiday in a piece of history. This Grade II-listed cottage is in the centre of the lively seaside town of Whitby. Make a cup of tea in the farmhouse-style kitchen before kicking back by the fire under seventeenth-century oak beams. There are plenty of thoughtful touches to admire here, from the restored period display cabinet to the aged leather and linen sofas. The kitchen has a gas range, perfect for whipping up a traditional English breakfast or an indulgent Sunday roast. Alternatively, treat yourself to a sumptuous meal at local Michelin-starred chef Andrew Pern's restaurant, The Star Inn The Harbour, with views of Whitby Harbour and the River Esk. Elsewhere, we'd suggest spending a day hiking the astounding heather-covered hills of the nearby North York Moors.

This apartment in a new complex is set slightly back from the harbour (away from the busiest areas), but you can still reach the very centre in under ten minutes on foot. And as it’s on the top floor of the building, the views are spectacular. From the balcony, you can see across the rooftops to the ruined abbey on the hill, famously part of the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. As is often the case with penthouse homes, the elevation also means that's there's lots of natural light too. The white walls and reflective surfaces work to emphasise this asset, which floods in through the skylight as well. Add to that a minimalist kitchen and a modern bathroom finished in particularly sleek grey tiling, and you have an apartment that is equally as covetable as the location.

If you head a bit further out of the town, you’ll discover the surrounding area’s woodland and moorland, with plenty of beautiful spots for long walks and scrumptious picnics.

With all of that exploring, you’ll have worked up quite an appetite, so pick up a fish supper from an award-winning chip shop and enjoy overlooking the harbour.
