In the heart of historic Whitby, this snug apartment provides the perfect retreat for two. Cosy and contemporary, what it lacks in space, it more than makes up for in comfort. We can already picture ourselves sinking into the plush sofa with a cup of Yorkshire brew after a day in the fresh sea air. Outside, a charming little patio beckons on summer days – it's a sweet spot to enjoy a glass of wine and nibble on Wensleydale cheese as the sun slowly sets. There's also a sleek kitchen ideal for rustling up lighter bites, a glossy bathroom and a sumptuous bedroom that will leave you feeling well-rested and ready to explore.

The enviable locale makes exploring a breeze. Spend the afternoon dipping in and out of the independent shops, old-world pubs and delicious eateries in the city centre, or head down to the waterfront pier and Blue Flag beach for a taste of the seaside. You also can't miss the famous ruins of Whitby Abbey or the 199 Steps – the views from the top of the hill are hard to beat.

With a stunning balcony terrace and bar area on the top floor of this home, you are afforded incredible views over Whitby, stretching all the way to the Abbey, which can be enjoyed as you sip your morning Yorkshire tea or as the sun sets over cocktails at happy hour. 

On the other side of Whitby, you will find narrow medieval streets with boutiques and pubs. Plus, roughly a twelve-minute walk from your door, you can also discover the ruins of Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s classic gothic novel, ‘Dracula’. What’s more, you can even go on a ‘Dracula’ experience, reachable in just six minutes on foot from this home. 

To make the most of your seaside escape, the Blue Flag West Cliff beach, and promenade are just a five-minute walk away. While nestled on the West Cliff, lining Pier Road – which can be reached in eight minutes on foot – you’ll find arcades for hours of fun on rainy days and Whitby’s famous fish restaurants serving the catch of the day because it simply wouldn’t be a beach holiday without fish and chips. 

On sunny evenings, take advantage of the courtyard on the ground floor of this home, and dine alfresco before ending the evening with drinks on the balcony to admire the views one last time. Then curl up on the comfy sofas to relax after an exhausting day of exploring and climbing the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. Finally, slip into the plush bedding and luxury linens to ensure you have a great night's sleep, ready for another day of adventures.

Built in 1862, this character-filled home that was once a stable boy's accommodation is now a cosy and atmospheric 21st-century getaway. We love every irresistible inch, from the light-filled skylights and gorgeous sea views down to the glossy parquet floor. The sumptuous master bedroom is so stylish, it's hard to believe it's all upcycled from cladding and roof joists, and the master bathroom is even better. Relax with a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub or rinse off under the rainfall shower. The living area is warm and incredibly comfortable. In the mornings, open the bi-fold doors and sip your coffee on the Juliet balcony, watching the ocean waves from the floor-to-ceiling windows. After a tasty breakfast rustled up in the blue kitchen, head up to the roof terrace to soak up the sunshine. Decked out with lush greeny and a barbecue, you'll want to spend every minute you're not at the beach sitting up here, enjoying alfresco meals and sipping cocktails as the sun sets over the water. Speaking of the sea, it's just a five-minute walk down to the beach or into town, where you can snack on fish and chips and grab a pint at one of the local pubs. Shopaholics can browse Saltburn-by-the-Sea's independent boutiques, keen hikers can walk along the Cleveland Way or for a more leisurely pace, just stroll along the Victorian pier, relishing in the salty sea air.

The Stable Boy

Situated in a grand residence near the market town of Thirsk, this apartment offers an idyllic retreat surrounded by beautiful countryside. You can go for leisurely walks through the shared gardens or have a game of tennis, golf, or do some fishing. If you prefer to be indoors, then the communal spa with its swimming pool, sauna, hot tub and fitness area is the place to be. Or relax in the communal lounge – there’s a pool table here too. The apartment itself has a traditional style, and the living room also offers a comfortable sofa bed for guests three and four. We think this home offers a great base to explore North Yorkshire.

Cosy and modern, this apartment puts you in the heart of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. The beach, pier, and vintage tramway are all within walking distance – as are the town's many shops and restaurants. You'll find the apartment in a Grade II listed building perched above the coast. We love the moody paint and contemporary decor – it’s the ideal size for two and comes with a handy parking spot if your adventures take you further afield. We think it's the perfect spot for a pair keen to explore North Yorkshire.

Saltburn Sweet

This cosy home provides a true countryside escape. It's located on the cusp of Wensleydale and resides near the stretching natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. If you love wholesome walks and snapping pictures of beautiful scenery, this is the home for you. 

If you did want to explore the undulating hills of the Yorkshire Dales, they're under half an hour away. You can take a few days to master the hillside or simply just spend an afternoon amidst the sea of green. 

Of course, you don't have to visit them at all – various walking trails decorate the landscape near your home. Simply set out in the mornings to discover the local rural charm.

When you're out in the nearby towns and villages, make sure to stop off for a quick pint at the cosy pubs. You can also find a selection of cute shops and authentic stores selling clothes, food and souvenirs. 

Once you're back at the home, snuggle into its tranquil comfort. Catch a film on the TV, sit out on the garden table with a cup of coffee or just read a book on the rustic bench. Picturesque and peaceful, it's an idyllic spot in the heart of the rural North of England.

This charming Tudor castle, built in 1560, has been fully restored to create the perfect romantic retreat for two. Set in the picturesque Teesdale landscape, this historic property is located near the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Park, as well as the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Guests can admire the ornate roof beams carved from oak trees felled over 400 years ago in the dining hall, and relax in the cosy living room with a wood-burning stove set within a Tudor fireplace. The bedroom features a double bed on an oak floor adorned with Persian rugs and offers stunning views of the walled garden and the high moors beyond. The property also boasts an enclosed courtyard garden and two designated parking spaces. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome for a small additional charge.

The Daffodil Garden

There's nowhere better for a walking weekend than this snug country home – trails start from your front door, and your four-legged friends can join the exploration. Rievaulx Abbey is an hour's hike away, and there are well-marked paths from there onwards to the charming town of Helmsley (alternatively, it's just a fifteen-minute drive away).
