Set in extensive grounds but with its own garden, this is one magnificent place to stay in North Yorkshire. Thoughtfully designed by the owners who have put their personal stamp on the stunning interiors, there's plenty of space for groups to socialise – both indoors and out. The high-end kitchen is perfectly equipped for cooking family feasts, plus there's a smaller on the other side of that house that's perfect for whipping up a quick snack. Each bedroom is unique and they all come with spectacular bathrooms, ideal for relaxing after long walks or getting ready for a slap-up meal in town. You'd be forgiven for thinking you're in the middle of the countryside but here you'll be just a short walk away from the city of Ripon, with its endless places to eat, drink and shop. And being right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales means keen walkers and cyclists will love it here too.

Unbridled

Located on the Bolton Abbey Estate, offering spectacular views of the Wharfe Valley, this restored cottage guarantees a restful stay. The sitting room has a wood-burning stove to keep things cosy during the cooler months, while outside, there’s a terrace with a barbecue for alfresco dining during the summer. Your host provides a starter pack with essentials like tea, coffee and biscuits, but if you need to stock up on more provisions, the market town of Skipton is a fifteen-minute drive away.

The Meadow's Edge

Every care has been taken to modernise this Victorian cottage without diminishing its period charm. We love the old-world touches, like the cast iron heaters, sparkling chandeliers and ornate vintage mirrors. Escaping from the hustle and bustle of the big city is a no-brainer here. Throw open your windows in the morning, and you’ll hear birdsong – you might even see a passing deer or two. Whip up a quick breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen, and then put on your walking shoes. Miles of open countryside await right on your doorstep – the cottage is at the end of a drive where the village gives way to the natural world. You can spend entire days hiking the patchwork of fields and farms crisscrossed by a web of brooks. You’ll quickly work up an appetite after all that exploring. You can grab a meal in the village pub, the local chippy or the Tandoori restaurant. However, if you want more variety, a five-minute drive will take you to nearby Ramsbottom, where you'll have a much wider choice of cafes, restaurants, and food shops. A thirty-minute drive will have you in central Manchester, in the heart of all that the city has to offer. In the evening, fill the bathtub and feel the relaxation wash over you. 


Babbling Brooks

Welcoming guests in style, this converted barn in West Yorkshire boasts a large living area with ample room to socialise and sprawl out. In keeping with its rustic charm, it features plenty of exposed stone, wooden beams and high vaulted ceilings, while modern touches such as a striking bespoke staircase, innovative handmade lighting and a sleek island kitchen have been installed with luxury and comfort in mind. Enjoy meals together at the long table in the open dining area, admiring scenic views of the Yorkshire countryside through vast picture windows. Venture off into the surrounding area and experience the picturesque views first hand, discovering the tranquil beauty of the woodlands. When you're in the mood for exploring further, take a short drive to the quaint village of Ripponden for a hearty pub meal in one of the charming eateries and an enticing taste of the slow life.

Tell a Tale

You'll be less than a five-minute walk from the glorious sands of Saltburn Beach at this home on the North Yorkshire coast, meaning it's ideally located for surf lessons, coastal walks, and hiking the Cleveland Way. It's also under twenty minutes on foot from the historic town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, best known for its pier and charming tramway – it’s one of the oldest operating water-balance cliff lifts. When you're not trying the town's excellent bars and restaurants, make the most of the modern kitchen, perhaps taking your meal down to the garden for an alfresco dinner. The comfortable outdoor seating is also perfect for relaxing in the evening, watching the sun go down with a drink or two. Or simply take in the views over the beach, North Sea and Huntcliff from the sunroom – we think the vistas here are wonderful.

Salt & Sand

Soak up the charms of North Yorkshire's Ripon at this smart apartment overlooking the bustling Market Place, and with tea rooms and traditional pubs just a stone's throw away. Should you tire of town life, the glorious Dales are on your doorstep for bracing hikes, and Harrogate is a short drive if you fancy a shopping spree. Back home, while there's no outdoor space to speak of, the town views seen from the living area and bedroom are a nice touch. If three of you are sharing, it's worth noting the last guest will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the lounge – but for a home this central, it's a compromise worth making.

The Woodlander

Blessed with a well-proportioned and beautifully decorated interior, plus a perfect position in the quaint North Yorkshire market town of Masham, this flat promises a real change of pace. On entry, step straight into the well-lit open kitchen and living room, complete with a leather seating area and a farmhouse-style dining table for four, so there's plenty of room to socialise and relax while you get dinner on the go.

Head through to the two bedrooms and you'll discover soothing spaces with light, neutral decor and comfy beds that make slipping off a cinch. The main bedroom enjoys direct access to a private outdoor seating area for sipping your morning coffee – it makes the ideal addition to the larger communal yard, which is equipped with an outdoor dining area for alfresco feasts. Finally, the generously proportioned family bathroom is perfect for personal pampering sessions, with storage behind the mirror to store your sundries. 

Nestled on the banks of the River Ure, the small rural community of Masham has plenty to offer including picturesque walks through stunning countryside, challenging bike rides along a section of the Tour de France, or touring either of the two breweries and sipping pints at its four pubs. Further afield, you're under a forty-minute drive from Harrogate and the famous Betty's Tea Room.

Land of Hops and Glory

Looking at this stunning home, it's hard to believe that it was once a coach house. This is a testament to the hard work and creativity that went into the recent renovation. The newly converted interior belongs in the pages of a glossy magazine, with huge windows on the extension letting in copious amounts of natural daylight and a sleek kitchen that will have keen chefs eager to start cooking. A gorgeous island in the middle makes it a sociable space to gather around and clink glasses. In the living room, bursts of colour come from a beautifully soft corner sofa in royal blue and artwork hanging on the walls curated by local artist David Stead. From here, you'll be able to see the expansive gardens, which come complete with a barbecue and an alfresco dining area — you can almost hear the sound of Pimm's being poured out already. The prime location in North Yorkshire means that you won't be short of inspiration for days out. You can walk to Ripon Cathedral in just over a quarter of an hour, while the Nidderdale AONB can be reached in ten minutes by car for when you fancy a longer ramble.

Horse & Carriage

Rejuvenate with panoramic coastal views and sea air at this contemporary home perched along the mighty beach cliffs of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. With the Victorian spa town's golden sands and bustling town centre all just a five-minute jaunt away, it's hard to imagine a better location. 

Spend days sandcastle making, kite flying, and surfing, if you time the tide right. And when tummies start to rumble, hop on the cliff lift (the oldest of its kind in the UK, no less) just eight minutes from your door. You'll be down on the promenade backed by its colourful beach huts in no time for fish and chips and lashings of ice creams. 

Back at home, this place is a masterstroke in the art of modern living, with zesty pops of colour creating a welcoming retreat. But it's those views of the distant horizon taking all the glory here. In winter months, sink into the sumptuous, velvet sofas positioned just so to take in the seascapes with a cuppa. And when the sun shines, pad out onto the sea-facing terrace with a glass of something chilled – the outdoor lighting will help keep the night flowing. 

Upstairs, you'll discover bedrooms all adorned with crisp white linens, and kids will love the bunk beds in the third bedroom. And the pièce de résistance? The vast main suite with those sea views again. Best seen from the king-size bed with tea and toast, we think

Marine Parade

We're pretty sure that you won't find many cottages cuter than this. Built at the backend of the eighteenth century, this traditional weaver's house is Grade-II listed and you can see why. Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. The Peak District is only a ten-minute drive away too if you're in the mood for a long ramble.

Summer Wine

Seamlessly blending traditional and modern, this rural farmhouse is a true escape from it all. Tailor-made for socialising, we love the open-concept kitchen and dining areas making up the heart of the home, where in winter, you can soak up the warmth of the wood burner or in summer months, spill out onto the terrace. Locally, you’re just a short distance from the vibrant market towns of Clitheroe and Settle, while walkers and cyclers alike will adore Gisburn Forest, a mere five-minute drive away. 

A Serene Soul

This home, located within the North York Moors National Park, is as picture-perfect as they come. Standing against the backdrop of rolling hills, with tons of outdoor space for the little ones to let loose, plus a terrace for dining alfresco, there's a lot to like about it. Inside is equally as charming, featuring traditional stonework, rustic fireplaces, and exposed beams. It's set across two floors, and the various bedroom setups – including a kids' room with a bunk bed, games and a reading nook – cement this as a prime family destination. There are lots of opportunities for adventure and exploration in the locale – that said, a car is recommended to get the most out of your stay.
