Given the elegant simplicity of the interior, this illumination is definitely a good thing. The combination of a muted grey colour palette and wood surfaces feels effortlessly modern, while there are a couple of stylish additions to stop it from feeling too anonymous — we like the hanging spider-esque light feature and glass lamps, for instance.

All of Scarborough's main attractions sit nearby, from the Italian Gardens six minutes' walk away to the town's beach which takes around double that time to reach. Further afield, the sprawling North Riding Forest Park takes just over ten minutes to get to in the car and offers plenty of awe-inspiring vantage points.

Get off to a flying start at the Esplanade with its Italian Gardens and, of course, the Spa Leisure Complex. Feeling peckish? Eat breakfast here or at the beautiful bench-style dining table just inside. With its dune-backed beaches, charming fishing harbour and idyllic position on the Northumberland Coast, Seahouses makes a brilliant base for a seaside getaway. This apartment puts you within striking distance of all it offers. Back home, you'll find a cosy living area ideal for winding down after a day in the sun. It's not the roomiest layout, but we think it'll work well for a couple – and the private parking is a nice perk. The only downsides are the car park views and lack of outside space. But, as the beach is a short stroll away, we don't think you'll mind too much.

Everything you'll need is taken care of, so all you have to do is sit back and relax. The grey colour scheme is slick and modern, especially in the kitchen – with plenty of counter space, appliances and crockery, cooking is anything but a chore. But when you don't fancy whipping up something, there's a great collection of restaurants, pubs and cafes on your doorstep, plus plenty of shops, boutiques and activities to keep you entertained. Enjoy a morning stroll along the statue-lined promenade or grab a towel and sprawl out on the huge stretch of sand at Filey Beach.  But if you prefer a more active holiday, Filey is at the start (or end) of the Clevland Way, which promises fresh air, coastal trails and beautiful views of the ocean.

Ideal for a large family break and packed with character, there’s enough room for everyone, including your beloved pooch. The enclosed patio provides private access to the award-winning Glen Gardens, a pretty park where you can enjoy a morning stroll. If you want to venture further afield, enjoy a walk along the huge stretches of sand and cliff at Filey Brigg – don't forget to stop off at one of the Old Town’s traditional tea rooms or pubs along the way. After a day of exploring, gather the family around the eight-seater wooden dining table for a hearty home-cooked meal, before retiring to the comfort of the adjoining living area and its sofa, armchair and two loungers (which are perfect for curling up in front of the smart TV, if you ask us). There's also a separate lounge, offering a cosy spot for a cuppa next to the wood-burning stove. Come rain or shine, this is a wonderful seaside getaway.

Fit for a family on a getaway to the sea, this charming apartment in Filey has everything you'll need. We love the sleek grey kitchen and the sumptuous L-shaped sofa, in particular. Spend lazy days playing board games and watching films on the smart TV, savouring a cup of hot cocoa or a steaming coffee from the Nespresso machine when you need a pick-me-up. Both bedrooms are comfortable and ooze coastal charm, while the bathrooms are glossy and stylish, complete with rainfall showers. But our favourite bit of all is the excellent location. You're only a five-minute walk away from Filey Beach, so pack a towel, grab an ice cream and while away afternoons on the sand. If you're in the mood for a walk, the Cleveland Way starts here – lace up your shoes and trek along the coastal path. And there's no better way to end the evening than with a pint and a delicious meal at one of the many pubs in town – most of which are within walking distance.

Spend cosy family getaways with this base in Muston as your comfy base. Just a five-minute drive away from the coastal trails, impressive rock pools and sandy beach of Filey – from here, you'll get to experience both the eastern England coastline as well as the fabulous Yorkshire countryside. 

And with comfort and charm at the heart of this home's aesthetic, it's safe to say chilling out and reconnecting with nature comes easy here. With four bedrooms and two main living areas, you'll find plenty of space to relax after spending fun-filled days amidst the local nature. Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.
