A perfect getaway for two, this cottage delivers on all fronts. It's bright and contemporary, but the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams add a rustic touch that suits the surrounding landscape. Inside, a light-filled living area opens onto a gorgeous patio. Sipping champagne as the sun goes down will become your evening ritual – keep an eye out for wild rabbits and rare birds flying overhead. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it's well-stocked and well-suited to rustling up delicious breakfasts and other light meals. We also adore the sleigh bed – it's as comfortable as it looks, and nothing beats sinking into the plush sheets after a day of exploring. Speaking of exploring, you're only a five-minute drive from Alnwick, a charming market town with a famous castle. Roam the cobbled streets lined with independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, then head up to the castle for a history lesson or wander the gardens. Drive ten minutes in the opposite direction and you'll hit the Northumberland coast – both Boulmer and Alnmouth are great options if you fancy a day by the seaside.

Listen To The Wind

Go north to the village of Bellingham, an hour away from Newcastle, and that’s where you’ll find this beautiful, cosy cottage. With a charming colour palette of blue, pink and brown, and natural elements of wood and brick, the aesthetic here is enough to make you want to stay forever. Now imagine an alfresco breakfast at the picnic table outside, followed by a strong coffee whilst you snuggle into the corner sofa with a good book. Imagine games of poker around the dining table – loser cooks dinner  – or a glass of prosecco and a bubble bath. 
 
When you’re not relaxing indoors, do it outdoors by unwinding with a game of golf at the Bellingham Club, or a hike on the Hareshaw Iron Works Trail. There’s a shop nearby where you can stock up on supplies, as well as a number of cafes.

In the rolling fields of County Durham lies a village called Witton Gilbert. At its heart, you’ll find local pubs, shops, and a bowling green, but a five-minute walk will take you up to your vast manor. Enter through majestic,  wrought-iron gates, up your private drive, to the bright blue front door – a cheery invitation to welcome you inside. With modern, velvet furniture in the living space illuminated by enormous bay windows, the gold detailing truly shimmers in the afternoon sun. Pad across the plush carpet to the flagstone floors of the kitchen, where you can rustle up a wholesome Sunday roast on the bottle-green Aga. The dining space has ample room for the whole family, with a rustic table made from huge planks of wood, for a nod to country living. On a balmy summer evening, you might even want to trade the dining table for a picnic on the lawn, followed by a game of tennis on your private court (and a gin and tonic after sunset).

Nestled into the popular town of Seahouses on Northumberland’s coastline, this is a perfect retreat for those in need of some fresh sea air and long coastal walks.
