This charming Tudor castle, built in 1560, has been fully restored to create the perfect romantic retreat for two. Set in the picturesque Teesdale landscape, this historic property is located near the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Park, as well as the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Guests can admire the ornate roof beams carved from oak trees felled over 400 years ago in the dining hall, and relax in the cosy living room with a wood-burning stove set within a Tudor fireplace. The bedroom features a double bed on an oak floor adorned with Persian rugs and offers stunning views of the walled garden and the high moors beyond. The property also boasts an enclosed courtyard garden and two designated parking spaces. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome for a small additional charge.

The Daffodil Garden

When a home is surrounded by beautiful scenery, the interior really has to up its game in order to stand a chance of being noticed and thankfully that's the case with this address. Large floor-to-ceiling windows let in ample amounts of natural daylight, which dances pleasingly off the wooden floors. Added to that, we liked the kitchen finished in a fetching shade of purple, the cosy wood-burning stove in the living room and the smart-looking bathrooms. Combined all together, it's almost enough to distract you from the stunning view of Lake Ullswater watched over by undulating hilltops. When you're in the mood to swoon, there's a terrace complete with alfresco seating so you can dine with this sweeping panorama in front of your eyes. The property itself sits on the Ullswater Way — a walking route that goes around the water — and you can easily reach other natural landmarks on foot. Aira Force waterfall, for instance, takes just over an hour and a half.

Grass of Parnassus

Days can be spent strolling along the promenade, walking barefoot on the beach or if you’re feeling adventurous make your way to the surf school – just twelve–minutes away. Saltburn's shops, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance, while this home also makes a great base to explore the surrounding countryside – the Yorkshire Moors are only a thirty–minute drive away. 

Star of the Sea

High Street, Norton is an expertly designed holiday home with style in abundance. Nestled in the heart of the market town of Norton, you'll be perfectly placed to enjoy the many independent restaurants, shops and bars nearby. Sleeping up to four guests, this beautiful holiday home is an ideal base for romantic retreats, family staycations and getaways for small groups of friends. High Street, Norton also accepts one well-behaved dog so your four-legged friend can enjoy a holiday too!

Charming Norton Hideaway

Seven minutes by car from Durham city centre, this former rectory plays host to a most luxurious home that feels a world away from urban life. In the rolling fields of County Durham lies a village called Witton Gilbert. At its heart, you’ll find local pubs, shops, and a bowling green, but a five-minute walk will take you up to your vast manor. Enter through majestic,  wrought-iron gates, up your private drive, to the bright blue front door – a cheery invitation to welcome you inside. With modern, velvet furniture in the living space illuminated by enormous bay windows, the gold detailing truly shimmers in the afternoon sun. Pad across the plush carpet to the flagstone floors of the kitchen, where you can rustle up a wholesome Sunday roast on the bottle-green Aga. The dining space has ample room for the whole family, with a rustic table made from huge planks of wood, for a nod to country living. On a balmy summer evening, you might even want to trade the dining table for a picnic on the lawn, followed by a game of tennis on your private court (and a gin and tonic after sunset).

The Ecclesiastic

Some of the Lake District’s most striking scenery can be found at Ullswater, with its mountainous landscape and unusual z-shaped, ‘ribbon lake’, which is the second largest in the region. But even better than simply visiting this beautiful spot, you can see it all from the windows of this lakeside home. Although it’s just a five-minute drive from the quaint town of Pooley Bridge, this home feels truly rural and isolated. Park up the 4x4 in the gravel drive and head into this warm and welcoming abode. Light up the wood-burning stove in the plush lounge, with its horseshoe sofa that can fit the entire family. Or you can even have your own private hideaway in the second sitting room, with yet another fireplace – this time a sleek, modern hearth set into the wall. For balmy English evenings, another space can be found outdoors, with your very own patio complete with comfy garden furniture. Alfresco drinking and dining will certainly be on the cards out here. While you can see the water from the comfort of your own home, it’s just a seven-minute walk down to Ullswater Marina.

The Ribbon Lake

Combining contemporary styling and traditional design, this cosy cottage in Saltburn-by-the-Sea invites you to enjoy the quintessentially British seaside holiday. Pack up your bucket and spade, and hit the celebrated beach and pier, just a twenty-minute stroll from your door. Boasting rustic wooden floors and a stone hearth feature fireplace, back home is teeming with timeless charm, and yet still offers all the modern comforts you need for a peaceful stay. 

Begin with a cup of Yorkshire tea in the pretty garden and patio area, soaking up the sunshine as you plan for the day ahead. If a hearty breakfast is on the cards, the window-side dining room is a delightful space to get the group together in the fresh morning light. In the living room, you'll find carefully chosen vintage pieces, textured rugs, and plush furnishings that create a comfortable lounge area, perfectly suited for relaxing after an afternoon by the beach. The bedrooms are reassuringly rustic, with timber beams, skylights and pale walls to lull you to sleep, ready to explore this quaint Victorian spa town, come morning. 

Always Sunny in Saltburn

In the Victorian beach town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, this swish apartment makes for a perfect family or friend-group escape to the seaside. It’s right in the heart of town, and you’ll find micropubs, restaurants, fish and chip shops and boutiques in the streets around the apartment. Spend a day at the beach, a five-minute walk away or perhaps stroll along the pier and take the country’s oldest cliffside tram for a view over the town.

The living room is a delightful mix of mid-century style furniture and modernity. Think velvet scalloped chairs sitting alongside an L-shaped sofa big enough for the whole family. The wooden dining table can comfortably seat six people, and there’s additional room at the breakfast bar if you need it. Bedrooms are soothing spaces in neutral tones, inviting you for a quiet night’s sleep. 

Chill by the Sea

One glaring error will hit you the moment you step inside this beautiful cottage – that you haven't booked for long enough. The interior strikes just the right balance between countryside style and more urban chic. So while you'll find a Shaker-style kitchen, a warming wood burner and the welcoming cottage feel, there are plenty of pop art prints, eye-catching tiles and mid-century-style furniture that lends it a more contemporary flair. Upstairs, the three bedrooms are individually decorated, but all are exceptional and luxurious, with pristine white towels and bathrobes provided. That said, only the master comes with an in-room freestanding tub, which certainly elevates it in our eyes. Set in glorious countryside, sandwiched between the North Pennines AONB and Lake District National Park, this home offers fantastic views from its enclosed garden. Topped off with a steaming hot tub, which has plenty of space for six people, it's a truly fabulous place to relax. There are plenty of walks along the trails and footpaths that crisscross the Cumbrian countryside. Circular routes offer a varying degree of challenge depending on preference. Still, the leisurely twenty-five-minute stroll to the Shepherds Inn in Langwathby is our favourite kind of country walk – one with a pub at the end. Despite the feeling of seclusion, you're only four miles from Penrith, so it's easy enough to stock up on essentials when needed.

Garden of Edenhall

Shhh. Can you hear that sound? Us neither. Quietness and tranquility await in this truly extraordinary country cottage in the North Yorkshire dales. The home's glorious traditional features - original stone floors, warm wooden beams, a roaring fireplace - are full of character, but it's the styling of this home that will make you feel at ease from the moment you arrive. In the welcoming living room, the exquisitely-soft turquoise sofa is the perfect place to while away the hours with a book from the well-stocked bookshelf, and Eastern-inspired touches (including Buddha statues) add to the sense of calm. The kitchen, with its white marble countertops and exposed stone walls, is the ideal spot to cook up a rib-sticking meal. The bedrooms are elegant but simply furnished, with mustard yellow blankets and a dried flower wreath creating little moments of joy. But perhaps the real peace here comes from the scenery – this home is in the Yorkshire Dales’ Arkengarthdale, a beautifully remote location where you can hike for miles without seeing another soul. Bliss.

The Riverside Cottage

Check in to this waterfront cottage in the Lake District, where heritage, design, and uninterrupted views of Talkin Tarn and the Carrock Fells blend seamlessly. Though set deep in the Cumbria countryside, there's nothing twee about the inside of this home. Accents of racing green and antiqued brass bring flow and a dash of luxury throughout the space and guide you upstairs to an exquisite bedroom with a gleaming slipper bath at its heart. Part of an exclusive estate set within 1.5 acres of grounds, you could feel a million miles from anywhere here. But you're not as remote as you may think. The footpath from your door leads to the charming village of Talkin. Grab a shift pint and hearty meal in the village inn, or mosey down to The Boathouse Cafe for lunch al fresco overlooking the tarn. When it's time to embrace the great outdoors, hire a rowing boat, paddleboard, or kayak to launch off the tarn. Tee off from the local golf course - it overlooks the cottages. Then take a stroll around the 1.3-mile tarn through the mature woodland. Or, you could stay tucked up at home and soak up those views from the private patio or beside the fire – it's a scene you'll never tire of.
