Luckily, bathrooms and kitchen have been updated and deliver the modern comforts we can't live without. Cooking in the country-style kitchen is an absolute pleasure. Take your meals outside to the extensive garden with stunning views over the hills, or fire up the charcoal barbecue for an outdoor grilling session. In walking distance of a great pub and with scenic walks in every direction, the tranquil village of Shotteswell is ideally located for exploring this beautiful part of the country.

Sat within the grounds of a working farm in rural Oxfordshire, this cottage is as cute as a button. The interior has been fully modernised — save for the stone fireplace — although it still feels homely thanks to the rural artwork on the walls and the plush furnishings. The interior is a handsome mix of wood panelling, exposed stonework and roaring fires, although there's plenty of modern amenities tastefully added in too — it’s easy to see why it bagged so many tourism awards. As it's part of a small community of five homes, there's also a wealth of communal amenities to enjoy, ranging from a hot tub and a hammock outside, to the combined games and workout room which is packed full of ways to while away rainy days. When the weather does play ball, you can play croquet, badminton, volleyball, Giant Jenga or try your hand at kite-flying. Alternatively, you can lace up your walking boots and head out into the countryside for a bracing walk. The town of Chipping Norton can be reached in ten minutes by car, too.

A collection of farm buildings that have since been converted into holiday cottages, Cotswold Heath is the perfect place for a large group in the Oxfordshire countryside. As every cottage can be rented individually, each one has an excellent level of privacy, but they come together around the gorgeous central courtyard. Drop by local pubs for lunch, or head out for walks in the rolling fields, and we’d definitely recommend a trip to the nearby Hook Norton brewery. This is generally a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts but it’s also only a short drive to Oxford if you fancy an afternoon in town.

The owner's on site staff couple live away from the main house in a self-contained cottage by the tennis court, who look after the garden and maintain the house and can provide extra housekeeping upon request - subject to availability - for an hourly rate.
