A charming little cottage in the Oxfordshire countryside, it's so idyllic that House & Garden magazine deemed it worthy of gracing their pages. With exposed beams, original flagstone flooring and a reassuringly solid oak dining table, your host has ensured not to lose that quaint cottage feel by bringing everything into the twenty-first century. After kicking your boots off in the utility room, the cosy sitting room with its inviting fireplace and antique furniture makes for a lovely spot to warm up after bracing winter walks. Like any kitchen with an Aga, its warmth attracts people like moths to a flame and you'll soon be moving people out of your way as you look for a clear space to chop, while they chat. The upstairs bedrooms offer endless views over the stunning cottage garden and rolling fields towards the Thames. The children's room comes equipped with lots of books, while there's another small single for gran or grandad. Head out with the children and follow the footpaths leading from the cottage gate down to the lock and watch the riverboats or head to Tadpole Bridge for a well-deserved pint at the Trout.

Sevastopol Sketches

Once the village post office, this charming home gets our stamp of approval. Spread across three floors, it’s the perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds, with Bibury, Cirencester, and Burford just a short drive away. Inside, you’ll find plenty of character and space, with log-burners adding to the cosy feel. We love the private garden, the master suite on the top floor with stunning countryside views, and the fact that it’s just steps away from the village shop and pub.

Old Post Office

This charming cottage is located in Clanfield Bampton, in a delightful corner of the Cotswolds. You can set off on countryside walks – and strolls to the pub – straight from your doorstep. You'll also have a garden and private woodland to explore. The cottage is cosy and comfortable, with wood-burning stoves in the snug and sitting room. There’s an open-plan kitchen and dining space, where you can cook and dine as a family. Bedroom two boasts a balcony, the perfect spot for a morning cuppa. 

Summer Thyme

Close to the Cotswold hot-spots of Burford, Lechlade and Bibury, this Grade II-listed property dates back to the 17th Century and was recently lovingly restored to sleep up to 11 guests. It still feels like a traditional home, with its flagstones, mullioned windows and fantastic fireplace, but with all the modern amenities you need. Only a 5-minute drive to the year-round Cotswold Wildlife Park, there’s also a critically-acclaimed gastropub less than 100m away. With a mature southwest-facing walled garden, patio, barbecue for warmer months, snuggle up by the fire, relax in the hot tub, or pack your wellies for scenic walks direct from the front door when it's cooler. With plenty to do nearby, Dunford Barn is a great year-round base for families and adults to explore the best of the Cotswolds.

Dunford Barn

A mesmerising location, impeccable interior design and plenty of exciting things going on in the locale – this strikingly modern lodge perched on the banks of Bowmoor Lake, in the edge of the Cotswolds, seems to have all the luck. The views of the water from the deck, from the private beach with fire pit or even just out through the floor-to-ceiling windows are soothing, but you can easily liven things up with some water sports or outdoor activities arranged by the surrounding resort, or a visit to its world-class spa for a pampering session. There's more than enough to do at home if the weather's not on your side as well – we're looking at the pool table, in particular.

The Waterfront Escape

With a terrace overlooking a tranquil freshwater lake, it's easy to see what drew us to this home. Though as beautiful as the view is, it's not all this house offers. Echoing the surroundings, the modern interior is peaceful and comfortable, with plenty of space for a family getaway. Location-wise, the estate is a sprawling 850 acres of woodland and meadows that you can explore on foot or by bicycle – perhaps plan a visit to the on-site spa post workout. Thrillseekers can paddleboard or fly high on a zip-wire through the treetops, and seeing as how you're in the heart of the Cotswolds, there's also an option of many day trips to quaint neighbouring towns.

The Lakes Hideaway

Nestled in the quaint Cotswold village of Clanfield, and set on a five-acre estate with picturesque fields, grazing sheep, and a walled garden featuring a pond, this home offers a tranquil retreat. The house boasts traditional features and modern finishes, with plenty of space for a family or group of friends – keep in mind this home is only suitable for children over ten and infants under twelve months. During colder months, you can cosy up by the open fireplace in the sitting room or the wood-burning stove in the family room, while the picturesque garden is perfect for summer barbecues. Feel like dining out? The village's two 17th-century pubs are just a short walk away.

Cotswold Court

With its 16th-century character and wealth of amenities, this manor home is an absolute dream. Inside, space is anything but tight. In addition to the two cosy sitting rooms – both with woodburning stoves – you'll find a large kitchen, formal dining room, and a piano area for budding musicians. Each bedroom is as comfortable as the next, with the top-floor one perfect for little ones. As for the garden, the views of the countryside steal the show. There's plenty of room for children and pups to run amuck while adults enjoy a sundowner or two. Location-wise, Shifford is driving distance from Burford, Oxford, and the Cotswolds – all great options for day trips.

And should you feel like venturing further afield, the Cotswolds is on your doorstep. 


Wild Honey Bee

This lakeside lodge opens its doors to an unforgettable rural retreat. From here, you can enjoy the views while relaxing on the rooftop terrace. There is also a barbecue and three paddle boards available for use throughout your stay. Inside, the rooms are family-friendly with plenty of space to unwind and socialise. Outside, you can walk, cycle and enjoy access to an extensive concierge service, a heated pool, sauna and a gym – ensuring entertainment options for everyone. There is also an on-site restaurant and a small farm with rescued animals. 


Living Beauty

Swap the big smoke for the great outdoors at this luxurious Cotswolds lakeside estate, located just a five-minute drive from the pretty market town of Lechlade-on-Thames. 

Surrounded by rolling meadows, woodland, and pristine waters and offering a five-star concierge service (think private dining with a bartender and spa treatments), this is lakeside living, but not as you know it.

When it's time to get active, you can enjoy wild swimming or paddle about in the home's kayak. Or take it easy with a relaxing afternoon in the spa – an indoor swimming pool and sauna are at the ready. 

Once Upon a Lake

You’ll find this cottage in the most historic part of picturesque Burford. Grade II listed and dating back to the 1500s, this home blends old-world charm and modern comforts. Curl up beside the wood-burning stove beneath wooden beams, and listen to the church bells ring on the hour. The classic country cottage garden is a wonderful spot for a barbecue – you can see neighbours coming and going thanks to its higgledy piggledy nature. Discover atmospheric pubs a few minutes away, set off on country walks, and visit beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water, just 9 miles away.
