The home sits in the historic part of a typically quaint Cotswold village, right on the edge of  Wychwood National Nature Reserve. Walk for a few minutes and you have a terrific country pub, a church, a spa, and a lovely fishing spot on the River Windrush.


Rose by Moonlight

Sitting within 2.5 acres of peaceful grounds, this romantic Cotswolds retreat welcomes you to slow down and enjoy total relaxation. Inside, there's plenty of socialising space along with a range of home comforts – making it easy to settle in and unwind. There’s a cosy snug, wood-burning fires, Sonos speakers and a study for remote workers. Outside, you can stroll down to the stream and there’s a barbecue for warm weather days. Private parking is available and it’s just a short drive to Woodstock, Charlbury and Chipping Norton are all within easy reach.

With the honey-stone centre of Chipping Norton an eight-minute drive away, and Banbury, Soho Farmhouse, and Blenheim Palace just a smidge further (all under twenty-five-minutes), you’re perfectly placed to seek out the best of Cotswold’s life here. 

Though you may find all the Cotswold’s charms you’re chasing right here at home. Inside, this lovingly restored detached cottage oozes period character with carefully curated antiques and vibrant textiles adding layers of interest. We like to think that home is where the hearth is, and there are two firesides to choose from here. The elegant sitting room with a warming stove is the spot for quiet reading time – the bookcases stuffed with classics can help with that. And next door, a cosy snug with a wood-burner is the perfect nook for morning coffees and the papers. 

When the sun shines, head outdoors to the picturesque front garden with a seating area to soak up the views of the village and church. Or mosey onto the secluded rear lawns - it’s your very own secret garden retreat.

Hearth of the Home

After many years unoccupied, this former barn was treated to a complete revamp in the late 2010s. Today, a remarkable home awaits guests visiting rural Oxfordshire. Huge glass walls and stark white walls mean that the space feels immediately bright and inviting, while there's a superb mix of modern touches and more homely furnishings — bold pieces of artwork and the sleek grey kitchen sit quite happily alongside deep red rugs and picnic baskets repurposed as coffee tables.

Out through the glass doors, there's a charming walled garden complete with a lawn, patio and neat plant beds. Bat boxes and an owl loft have also been incorporated into the property to help the local wildlife. If you fancy a little more nature-spotting, there are plenty of walking routes throughout the surrounding Blenheim Estate. The city of Oxford takes around twenty-five minutes to reach in the car, too.

If a chocolate-box cottage in a charming Cotswold town is what you’re after, then look no further than this Grade II listed, 17th-century abode. Situated in pretty Charlbury, the place is surrounded by glorious countryside – and more importantly, it’s a three-minute walk to the pub. Follow a bridleway that runs alongside the river to Ditchley Park or set out on the five-mile Finstock and Evenlode loop. This charming refurbished barn conversion is perfect for those wanting to explore the English countryside from a comfortable base. This home has everything you need for a restful break. 

The house can be found tucked away amid the rolling countryside of the Cotswolds, just outside of the ancient village of Shipton under Wychwood. A twenty-minute stroll will take you to the heart of the pretty village, while a ten-minute drive will get you to Chipping Norton and Burford. There’s no shortage of cosy pubs to call into, whether you’re after a post-hike pint or are on the hunt for a Sunday roast. 

Back at the cottage, curl up with a book in front of the log burner and feel the stresses of daily life melt away. This is the ideal place for taking a break – you can’t help but relax if the only sound you can hear is the gentle crackle of a fire. Sipping a glass of wine helps, too.

This Cotswolds stone barn sets the tone for an idyllic English countryside escape. We were blown away by the vaulted beamed ceilings, sleek bathrooms (complete with rainfall showers) and the fully-equipped kitchen. But the star of the show is the Scandinavian-style log-burner. When it's chilly out, throw another log on the fire and sink a little deeper into the comfy couch, a well-thumbed book in hand. But when the weather's glorious, outside is where you'll spend most of your time. The private terrace is an excellent place to tuck into the goodies from the welcome basket – which is filled with local produce, fresh-squeezed apple juice and a complimentary bottle of  Pomerol – while the surrounding gardens have multiple play areas to keep kids entertained. There are also many on-site amenities to entice you, from the spa (considered one of the best by Tatler) and communal games room to the shared indoor pool and gym. If you're looking to go further afield, cycle and hike around the local area or drive for twenty minutes to chocolate-box villages nearby, including Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford.

Fresh Squeezed Apple Juice
