We love the peaceful garden here – perfect for children and dogs – which boasts a small summer house so you can enjoy the greenery whatever the weather. Inside, the double-height living room has a log burner for cosy nights in and some of the bedrooms can be set up as doubles or twins to suit your group. Location-wise, you’re a seven-mile drive from the market towns of Witney and Chipping Norton, and you’ll find a choice of local pubs in town – ideal for a well-deserved pint after a walk in the countryside. Your host Nick has worked very hard to ensure this home is as eco as possible including solar panels, triple glazed windows, underfloor heating, a clover lawn which sequesters carbon and even sustainable toiletries. A beautiful home thats also kind to nature - the perfect stay for the environmentally conscious. 

The Sustainable House

The Cobnut, set in a lush farmland in the largest of the 38 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is understandably right out of a fairytale or a Jane Austen novel. Housed on a decades-old family farm, not only does the home attain a high level of modern luxury in a rustic setting (easy to see why it bagged so many tourism awards), it is just as closely connected to the gorgeous outdoors. On the 70-acre private meadow, both adults and kids can enjoy croquet, kite flying, badminton, volleyball, Giant Jenga, plus a dozen other activities. Bring the complimentary picnic basket on your leafy walks through the countryside for a delightful lunch in the sunshine. On rainy days, settle into the well-equipped indoor games room or turn on the projector for a movie marathon. Elsewhere, curl up next to the cosy fireplace with a hot drink and a good book in hand. Inside, it's a classical look, with beautiful elm flooring, exposed stone walls and low beamed ceilings. While the original features add interest, it's a homely spot too, with a comfy armchair to sink into for a nap or read and a welcome hamper full of flowers, cakes and firewood. It's the little things that we love most about this home – the owners will really look after you here. With the idyllic English countryside, botanical gardens and medieval architecture all around, the host has a treasure trove of biking and hiking trails based on your interests. Whatever you choose to see and do here, ensure you bookmark the day by sipping bubbly in the hot tub or toasting marshmallows around the fire pit with friends and family.

Tucked down a quiet lane in the charming town of Charlbury, this honey-coloured bolthole is the perfect size for two. Comfort is at the forefront here, there’s a wood-burning stove that keeps both the lounge and kitchen-diner toasty, underfloor heating to warm toes after long rambles through the countryside and a super king size bed to fall into when you’re all worn out. Outside, a courtyard festooned with wildflowers is the perfect spot for lunches of Double Gloucester cheese and hunks of sourdough bread, picked up from the Farmers’ Market held every second Saturday. Pull on your walking boots and follow the Finstock and Evenlode Walk, a picturesque five-mile loop that starts in the centre of town and passes the Cornbury Park Estate. And when all of that rambling becomes thirsty work, the Bull Inn pub is less than five minutes from your doorstep – stick around for the Sunday roast and chocolate fondant tart.

Follow a bridleway that runs alongside the river to Ditchley Park or set out on the five-mile Finstock and Evenlode loop. Come home wind-whipped and worn-out to a cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove. Light the fire and hunker down as a private chef, booked via your fantastic host, gets to work in the kitchen. Should your aching muscles need a little attention, request for an expert massage therapist to treat you to an indulgent pamper session. When it’s sunny out, spend your afternoons relaxing on the patio as the barbecue expectedly sizzles in preparation for long, lazy lunches. At the end of another idyllic day, retreat to quiet bedrooms for a peaceful sleep in sumptuous beds.

Sat within the grounds of a working farm in rural Oxfordshire, this cottage is as cute as a button. The interior has been fully modernised — save for the stone fireplace — although it still feels homely thanks to the rural artwork on the walls and the plush furnishings. The Cotswolds AONB can be reached in around twenty minutes' drive, as can Blenheim Palace and the surrounding parkland. Closer to home, there are a pair of pubs and a cafe in the local village of Adderbury, only twenty minutes away on foot.

While the exterior is all about the area's honey-coloured stone, the interior has a more modern feel – though the white-washed beams, steep staircases, and low doorways contribute to the old-world character. Great Rollright's pretty walks are on your doorstep here, including access to the Rollright Stones and d'Arcy Dalton Way. After a trek, nothing beats cosying up in front of the wood burner. Come summertime, pad out to the garden and unwind in the fresh air – preferably with a sundowner in hand.

Rollright Romance

A collection of farm buildings that have since been converted into holiday cottages, Cotswold Heath is the perfect place for a large group in the Oxfordshire countryside. As every cottage can be rented individually, each one has an excellent level of privacy, but they come together around the gorgeous central courtyard. Drop by local pubs for lunch, or head out for walks in the rolling fields, and we’d definitely recommend a trip to the nearby Hook Norton brewery. This is generally a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts but it’s also only a short drive to Oxford if you fancy an afternoon in town.

Cotswold Heath

Hidden away in the Oxfordshire countryside, this home provides a welcoming retreat for those in search of peace, relaxation and beautiful woodland walks. Set across one floor, the rooms are cosy and family-friendly with plenty of space to socialise in the open-plan living room. There is also a private garden with a terrace and barbecue – perfect for warm-weather dining. And when it comes to local produce, you’ll be spoiled for choice thanks to the close proximity to Diddly Squat Farm Shop and Daylesford Organic – both just a short drive away.

A four minute drive away from the stunning Soho Farmhouse, another gem is waiting to be discovered in the picturesque town of Sandford St Martin. Bordering the incredibly scenic Cotswolds National Landscape, cycling and hiking is within easy access and guided walks are a safe and easy way to explore the area, but it’s this home that’s the real star of the show.

Built sometime in the 1700s, you can see the period’s influence in the exposed brickwork and although it has been modernised, the chosen furnishings pay homage to the home's origins, creating a homely atmosphere with a lot of heart. You’ll love unwinding in front of the fire in the snug room. Sprawl out on the green velvet sofa or get comfortable reading in the window nook – the latter is recommended if it happens to be raining whilst you’re there.

Wander into the kitchen whenever you’re feeling peckish and take a seat under the skylights to enjoy a cup of coffee. The statement wood ceiling is one of our favourite things about this home, but if you’d like to see another, you can exit through the doors to your left and have your drink alfresco in the garden instead. Unwind as the children run around the generous garden. Eat, sunbathe, picnic by the brook, and stargaze out here knowing that you can return inside and kindle fire whenever it gets a little too nippy. 

Visit Chipping North – a ten-minute drive away – and pretty Cotswold villages like Bledington and Kingham. Go for a walk around the area and stop at one of the pubs along the way to have a quintessentially British  pint and bite to eat.

Are you looking for the perfect Cotswold bolthole? This home in Charlbury could be it. Let us give you a tour. First of all, the pretty courtyard garden is ideal for an alfresco meal or evening drink. Inside, there’s a cosy, warm and inviting living room with ochre yellow walls. Gather around the log burner effect fire when the weather turns chilly and read one of the classic books or play a game with the pack of cards here. 

Upstairs, we love the views from the master bedroom over the charming street with its higgledy-piggledy Cotswold stone houses. This home is just the ticket for a couple looking for a romantic countryside break or a family with a child.

Situated in the gorgeous Evenlode Valley, Charlbury is surrounded by beautiful Cotswold countryside. There are so many lovely walks to enjoy, including one along the River Evenlode to Ditchley Park. Hikers can also take advantage of the Oxfordshire Way, which passes through the town. For everyday needs, there’s a convenience store 300 metres away. A farmer’s market is also held quarterly on the 2nd Saturday in March, June, September, and December. 

Or pop to the local deli, just a one-minute walk from this home. It’s the same distance to the pub, a 16th-century coaching inn if you fancy a hearty meal or just a drink. Other attractions in the area include Blenheim Palace, which is 11 kilometres from this adorable cottage.
