It's not the most modern, but it's comfortable – though it's best suited for eight adults and two children, with the latter sleeping in a twin alcove in the main bedroom.

It's impossible to choose our favourite thing about this cosy Cotswolds cottage. We adore the warm and inviting living area – original wood floors and traditional beams meet modern upgrades like underfloor heating – and with a collection of books, board games and children's toys, there's plenty to keep the whole family busy on rainy days. There's also host Christopher, who goes above and beyond to make your stay here feel like home – after unpacking, make yourself a cup of tea and enjoy a slice of the fresh loaf of bread he leaves on arrival. And we can't forget about the grounds, with a dazzling heated indoor pool, Turkish Hammam steam room and communal tennis court for guests to use. If we had to pick, though, we think the five acres of gardens are pretty spectacular. There's nothing better than an afternoon stroll amongst the greenery, watching birds by the pond, admiring the statues and basking in the views over the Cotswolds. In the centre of it all is a unique pavilion inspired by The Alhambra, the perfect spot for outdoor yoga in the morning sun. But if you'd like a change of scenery, the village has two charming pubs and many of the iconic Cotswolds villages are a short drive away, including Stow-on-the-Wold (fifteen minutes away) and Bourton-on-the-Water (twenty minutes by car).

Once a former stable, this home has been transformed into an elegant country house, perfect for escapes to the Cotswolds. Days here are spent in the great outdoors, dining alfresco on the terrace on long summer evenings, strolling through the estate's lush gardens and roaming the country footpaths on your doorstep. Kids can let loose on the playgrounds and jungle gyms, or they can cook up imaginary meals in the fully decked-out wendy house under the stairs. When you need a break from the sun, retreat into the cosy drawing room or gather by the open fire in the living area. There's also a wooden art nouveau sideboard filled with toys and board games for the whole family to enjoy. We loved the kitchen, in particular – it's a great space for home chefs to try out new dishes, using fresh produce and local ingredients picked up at one of the many Cotswolds farm shops. Speaking of local goodies, the welcome basket is filled with treats, from fresh eggs and a homemade cake to a complimentary bottle of wine. There's also much to get up to on the estate– book a treatment at the spa, take a dip in the indoor pool, play a game of ping-pong in the games room or break a sweat in the gym. But if you're craving a day trip, hop in the car and explore the idyllic Cotswolds villages – Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold are both twenty minutes away.

This converted barn is a charming family-friendly home in the little village of Little Rissington. Outside, there is plenty of charm, with a garden to sip wine on summer evenings – fancy a barbecue? Your host can provide one between April and October. The interior is modern but characterful, with a practical kitchen and a log-burning fireplace to cosy up on cooler nights. Location-wise, the Cotswolds offers endless walking trails, and you’ll also find Bourton on the Water and Chipping Norton within easy driving distance.

Set along the lane which inspired L.S Lowery in his Burford Church painting, this cottage is tucked away from visitors and is one of just four on the road which remains part of Burford Boarding School. A peaceful spot, the cottage is just a minute’s walk from the medieval bridge crossing the River Windrush and all the town’s shops, pubs and restaurants. 

With its distinctive honey-coloured Cotswold stone facade, and an Art Deco panel in the front door – the home a nod's not only to the town's extensive history but also to its link to the Art and Crafts Movement. Upon entering the home you'll be warmly welcomed by a typically English countryside retreat revealing an open plan layout featuring a cosy kitchen, dining area and living area with a wood-burning stove. 

At the back of the cottage, you'll find a hidden garden with a patio, small lawn with a garden bench, planted borders as well as a cute little summer house – perfect for sitting with a book amidst the peace and quiet. The east-west orientation of the garden means it has sunshine on it – weather permitting – throughout the day and on into the evening, making it an idyllic spot for a morning coffee through to evening drinks.

When you're ready to explore the local area, stretch your legs with a blissful country walk around the Cotswolds. Try a five-mile walk out of Burford to Great and Little Barrington along the Windrush Valley and back again, or there's always the option of the two-hour circular walk taking in Fulbrook and Woodford on your way. Burford garden centre is only a mile away and you'll conveniently find the nearest pub (The Highway Inn) just 300 metres away. 

When you arrive home, you needn't worry about traipsing mud through the cottage as there is a handy boot room with a sink, hooks to hang coats, plenty of space to keep boots and shoes.

But when the weather's glorious, outside is where you'll spend most of your time. The private terrace is an excellent place to tuck into the goodies from the welcome basket – which is filled with local produce, fresh-squeezed apple juice and a complimentary bottle of  Pomerol – while the surrounding gardens have multiple play areas to keep kids entertained. There are also many on-site amenities to entice you, from the spa (considered one of the best by Tatler) and communal games room to the shared indoor pool and gym. If you're looking to go further afield, cycle and hike around the local area or drive for twenty minutes to chocolate-box villages nearby, including Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford.

Once an antique showroom, this inviting homestead is now filled with local artwork – including paintings by the host's grandfather – as well as The Cotswold Company furniture and every amenity you can think of. Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. In the evenings, light the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal, gathering around the fire pit for toasted marshmallows when the air turns chilly.

Even closer to home you'll find two of the village's highly acclaimed gastropubs, the Wild Rabbit and the Kingham Plough, just a five-minute walk away. A five-minute drive will take you to Diddly Squat Farm Shop, and a twenty-minute drive will take you to the renowned Soho Farmhouse.
