One of the things that we like most about The Austen is the way that it has retained its sense of history. The building is over 250 years old, and the hosts have managed to keep many of the original features, including the wood panelling, fireplaces, and Georgian shutters.

Even before you enter, it’s clear that there’s something special about Faerie World. The high position of the cottage gives a heavenly view of the stream below, and you can hear the babbling water from the terrace, which is itself surrounded by flowers, and makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale.

This beautiful period home is right in the heart of historic Bath – in fact, Jane Austen lived in the terrace opposite from 1804-1805. You can definitely sense that period grandeur inside, with impressively high ceilings, marble fireplaces and gorgeous sash windows looking straight out onto Green Park.
