The attention to detail the host has displayed in renovating the home is astounding – it goes without saying that this countryside manor is dripping in Georgian charm, but it’s also got all of the modern luxuries to guarantee a truly comfortable stay. The traditional English garden and opulent interior feel plucked from a novel, and with a private gym, pool, hot tub and games room, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do when staying here. From the grandiose central gallery hallway and its columns to the winding staircase and original stained glass roof light – admire the opulent period features adorning the home. We love the floor-to-ceiling Georgian sash windows and doors that allow floods of natural light to flow through the property whatever the weather. Open the doors upon a summer's afternoon and head out to make the most of the fairytale garden. Perfectly manicured, the expansive lawns are decorated with wildflower beds, ponds and trees that have been around as long as the house itself. Let the kids run wild on the private playground equipped with a treehouse, swings and slides galore. The picturesque setting is more than enough to allow the adults to catch some respite from busy working lives too – gin and tonic anyone? Providing the perfect spot for reunions, celebrations and corporate group trips – this house is as versatile as its stunning country location. Situated just a five-minute walk away from a quality gastropub, Holcombe is a prime base from which to discover the various local attractions that Somerset offers. If you like the idea of escaping the city for a charm-filled cottage, but could do without dusty beams and draughty doors, this is the right home for you. 

The cottage is warm and welcoming, the perfect setting for a romantic escape. Curl up on the sofa and admire the lush garden as you sip Champagne. When the weather is fine, open up the glass doors to create a stunning indoor/outdoor space. Whip up meals in the kitchen to enjoy outside in the garden, or fire up the barbecue for a real alfresco treat – you might like to walk to the nearby farm shop for local goodies to cook. Soak up the sunshine outside and enjoy the countryside views. In the evening, get cosy around the fire pit before sinking into the oh-so-comfortable bed upstairs.

A beautiful amalgamation of 500 years of history, this stunning Somerset farmhouse and converted dairy spans the centuries. Stone floors run throughout the home – some old, some more recent – each documenting the evolution of this building over time. The garden pool is certainly a new addition, along with a dreamy pool house complete with changing rooms and a restorative steam room. On fine days, lounge out by the heated waters and enjoy a lazy alfresco lunch before treating yourself to a steam – plus, an automated cover keeps the pool at the ideal temperature all the time. The home itself is furnished in a contemporary farmhouse style with every detail attended to – offering a combination of cutting-edge modern spaces and a cosy cottage feel. The large kitchen is the heart of the home, with a beautifully restored AGA offering post-walk warmth on cold winter days. Of course, if you’d rather sprawl out on the couch, there’s plenty to choose from with their own wood burners to keep you warm. For spring and summer living, the kitchen conservatory is pretty remarkable – floor-to-ceiling sliding doors in the dining area open out onto the garden and rolling countryside. Upstairs, the impeccably styled bedrooms are decorated with floral print wallpaper, super-soft throws, and armchairs. The master bedroom even manages to fit an elegant freestanding bath alongside the dressing table – sneak away in the afternoons and take a blissfully relaxing soak. Outside, a terraced garden is spread over various levels, complete with a croquet lawn and even a mature woodland. If you’d like a break from country solitude, it’s just a twenty-minute walk to Babington House, perfect for Soho House club members to grab drinks, food and use the facilities. Proving you don’t have to be a fictional character to live in a fantasy setting – however temporarily – this subterranean home in Radstock will add a bit of magic and wonder to your holiday. 

Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit might instantly think of this as The Shire, but you don’t have to travel to Hobbiton in New Zealand when this haven is waiting for you right on the outskirts of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty. With a restaurant and shop right on site, you’d have little reason to leave, but we do recommend a trip through Cheddar Gorge, a short drive away. 

With a host of hiking trails, you can also imagine yourself off on an adventure as you walk through the countryside, returning home to enjoy a couple of pastries with coffee at the breakfast bar. 

Wander through the round, fairy-lit door and towards the garden area, where you can enjoy meals alfresco at the picnic bench or spend nights under the starry sky in the wood-fired hot tub. 

Grab a bite to eat at the on-site cafe after a session in the shared gym and book yourself in for a spa treatment as a gift to yourself. Golfers can head to The Mendip Golf Club – minutes away by car – whilst the rest of the family search the garden for fairies or get cosy under throws on the sofa reading about faraway lands.

This semi-detached cottage in Somerset is surrounded by beautiful gardens and countryside. French doors from the living room open onto a private outdoor space with a small patio area, perfect for your morning cup of tea with a view of the wildflower meadow, and the shared gardens are available for your use too. There’s even a zip wire, trampoline, and climbing frame for your little ones to let off steam. In the summer mornings, why not explore the gardens or swim in the pool, and in the colder winter months we would love to curl up with a good book in front of the log fire.

Pop on your boots in the designated boot room, and walk from this home along the river – for about twenty-nine minutes – to Nunney. Here you can have a great lunch at the George Inn, ice cream or coffee at the cafe, and explore the impressive medieval castle, complete with a moat. 

Visit the market town of Frome – just an eight-minute drive away – with its abundance of independent shops, pubs, and cobbled streets with rivers running down them. Once a month, Frome also hosts a vibrant street market full of artisan food, craft makers, and much more. 

Plus, slightly further away – just thirty-two minutes away by car – you can also reach the city of Bath. Here, you can explore the Roman Baths, the cathedral, see the Royal Crescent, do some shopping, or even spend a day at the spa.

Host Aisha has lovingly decorated this place with distinguished collectables and antiques, including the wonderful wardrobe in the master bedroom. Watch the sun set over the Somerset hills from the lush grounds – we love the stunning views from here. Later, relax in the hot tub or have a soak in the gorgeous slipper bath. When you're ready to venture out, the Georgian splendour of Bath is a twenty-minute drive away. Spend the day exploring the Royal Crescent, the Circus and the Roman Baths, as well as the many museums such as the Jane Austen Centre. Then unwind at the Thermae Bath Spa with its roof-top pool. For a more relaxed pace, there's a pub and café for lunch in Timsbury, around a five-minute stroll. Or put on your hiking boots and explore the glorious Somerset countryside.

The Parish Stone

This is one of the quirkiest spots for a romantic break we’ve seen – half of a Grade-II listed church, transformed initially into a photographic studio and now an apartment. It's larger than your typical studio and feels more like an open-plan one bed with a semi-separate kitchen and gorgeous original features, making it a wonderful spot to hunker down for a weekend in Somerset. Use it as a base to explore the countryside – there are walks galore in this quiet and secluded spot, although it’s just eight miles to Bath and twelve to Wells if you fancy a change of pace. Alternatively, you can just stay in and chill in the modern but cosy environment. Guests benefit from underfloor heating and a wood burner in the winter months, or an outdoor bench in the glorious garden when the weather gets warmer. You’ll be praising your hosts that you’ve found such a heavenly spot. 


Old Church Studio

There’s no better way to embrace the ethereal Somerset countryside around Glastonbury than staying in a converted church. In the evening, the stained-glass windows of this gothic church still glow against the landscape, as a roaring wood-burning stove warms up the open living space inside. 30-foot, knaved ceilings inside let the chatter of good times rise to the Gods and there’s a banquet-sized dining table for the whole group on the mezzanine level. Admire the rose stained-glass windows as you sup. 

The kitchen is tucked away and has everything you need for self-catering One of our favourite spots is the sunroom, set with tables and chairs for an idyllic afternoon tea. Either that or the hand-painted claw-foot tub in the main bathroom – ideal for a soak after hiking up Glastonbury Tor. Or, soak the day away in the outdoor hot tub.

This church is tucked into the hamlet of East Horrington, a ten-minute drive from the Cathedral town of Wells where you’ll find shops, cafés and plenty of places to eat. It’s a twenty-minute drive to Glastonbury and the countryside in between is full of walking and cycling trails to explore.

From the moment you see the grand stone exterior and cobbled courtyard, you’ll know that this ever-so-charming home is steeped in history. It's a former malthouse that’s over 300 years old and filled with traditional features. When you step into the entrance hall, you’re entering through the large oak door onto the original cart-way, and as you start trying to choose which bedroom you want to lay claim to, you’ll be winding your way up a turret stairway with rope bannisters, surrounded by wooden beams and original fireplaces. The interior has been fully renovated, with a modern handmade kitchen, squishy sofas, and cute-as-a-button bedrooms. Sip your afternoon tea perched on the sunny window seat with a good book in hand (there's an extensive collection to choose from), while gazing at the expansive green views of the playing fields and village church in the backdrop. Elsewhere, the large 14-seater pine dining table will be the perfect spot to savour a slow dinner with the entire group. Although in the garden you'll notice a patio, complete with outdoor furniture, that’s ideal for wine and cheese nights – there's a large lawn and a range of outdoor games available too (including table tennis) for hours of early evening fun. You don’t have to go far to continue the historical theme, as the pub next door is one of the oldest in the country and has been the resting place for many a monarch visiting the area since the 15th century. The surrounding county town, Frome, just a fifteen-minute drive away, was voted one of the best places to live in the UK - explore the rich history, shop at independent boutiques, buy fresh produce at the local market or dine at one of the many eateries dotted around nearby.

It takes twenty-one minutes to stroll along the River Frome into Frome itself, where you’ll find independent shops and charming cafes. It’s a lovely town to mooch around, set amid Somerset countryside. Woodland walks are right on your doorstep, so make sure you bring your boots. The gorgeous National Trust property of Stourhead is twenty minutes away by car, and is well worth a run out.

A fifteen-minute drive from the beautiful city of Bath, this studio apartment sits within the grounds of an old Georgian house. In the quintessential country village of Wellow, you’ve got a pub and village shop on your doorstep. An old railway line turned walking path leads right into Bath for those that like a long ramble. Make the most of sunny days with barbecues on the private patio, and enjoy starry skies at night away from the bright lights of the city. Inside, it’s an old hayloft turned apartment with a full kitchen, sitting area, dining table and bed sharing the same area. But it feels spacious thanks to a lofty ceiling and the personal touches like a little library of books and welcome pack are appreciated.

We love the kitchen and dining area here, a match for any budding chef and opening out to the garden to welcome the outdoors in. Lazy days can be spent indulging in alfresco meals or simply whiling away the hours in the hot tub. When you’re keen to explore, you can walk to Frome where eateries and shops await. Further afield, a day out to Longleat Wildlife and Safari Park is fun for all the family. 

Somerset Delight

Quirky and stylish in equal measure, this unusual home is beyond the dreams of any Hobbit. Protected by its earthen mound, with a curved design and round windows, it's a perfect pod that's bound to be a hit with young families. It may be partially below ground but there's no roughing it here. Inside, it's been cleverly laid out to offer everything you could need in a neat package. There's a cosy sofa, a breakfast bar to eat at and a fabulous kitchen (how many Hobbits have a wine fridge?), along with three bedrooms and a shower room. But it's the outside space that has us longing to go back. Surrounded by the rolling fields of this working farm, you'll have your own patio with a private wood-fired hot tub, as well as a Finnish-style barbecue hut – perfect for grilling hot dogs or toasting marshmallows at any time of year. Elsewhere on the farm, let the kids run off some steam at the play area (complete with a miniature version of the underground homes), grab a bite to eat at the cafe and buy some local produce at the on-site farm shop.

A lot of time and thought has been put into converting the historic chapel that is now The Burrow. Nestled in a tranquil spot of countryside surrounded by rolling hills, the space feels authentically rustic but still comfortable and elegant. The tall arch windows provide floods of natural light and beautiful views of the landscape, including the inviting (and heated) swimming pool. While remote location would be difficult for guests without a car, it also makes it a great spot for a romantic getaway.
