The attention to detail the host has displayed in renovating the home is astounding – it goes without saying that this countryside manor is dripping in Georgian charm, but it’s also got all of the modern luxuries to guarantee a truly comfortable stay. The traditional English garden and opulent interior feel plucked from a novel, and with a private gym, pool, hot tub and games room, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do when staying here. From the grandiose central gallery hallway and its columns to the winding staircase and original stained glass roof light – admire the opulent period features adorning the home. We love the floor-to-ceiling Georgian sash windows and doors that allow floods of natural light to flow through the property whatever the weather. Open the doors upon a summer's afternoon and head out to make the most of the fairytale garden. Perfectly manicured, the expansive lawns are decorated with wildflower beds, ponds and trees that have been around as long as the house itself. Let the kids run wild on the private playground equipped with a treehouse, swings and slides galore. When the weather is fine, open up the glass doors to create a stunning indoor/outdoor space. Whip up meals in the kitchen to enjoy outside in the garden, or fire up the barbecue for a real alfresco treat – you might like to walk to the nearby farm shop for local goodies to cook. The home itself is furnished in a contemporary farmhouse style with every detail attended to – offering a combination of cutting-edge modern spaces and a cosy cottage feel. The large kitchen is the heart of the home, with a beautifully restored AGA offering post-walk warmth on cold winter days. Of course, if you’d rather sprawl out on the couch, there’s plenty to choose from with their own wood burners to keep you warm. For spring and summer living, the kitchen conservatory is pretty remarkable – floor-to-ceiling sliding doors in the dining area open out onto the garden and rolling countryside. This is one of the quirkiest spots for a romantic break we’ve seen – half of a Grade-II listed church, transformed initially into a photographic studio and now an apartment. It's larger than your typical studio and feels more like an open-plan one bed with a semi-separate kitchen and gorgeous original features, making it a wonderful spot to hunker down for a weekend in Somerset. Use it as a base to explore the countryside – there are walks galore in this quiet and secluded spot, although it’s just eight miles to Bath and twelve to Wells if you fancy a change of pace. Alternatively, you can just stay in and chill in the modern but cosy environment. Guests benefit from underfloor heating and a wood burner in the winter months, or an outdoor bench in the glorious garden when the weather gets warmer. You’ll be praising your hosts that you’ve found such a heavenly spot.

This semi-detached cottage in Somerset is surrounded by beautiful gardens and countryside. French doors from the living room open onto a private outdoor space with a small patio area, perfect for your morning cup of tea with a view of the wildflower meadow, and the shared gardens are available for your use too. There’s even a zip wire, trampoline, and climbing frame for your little ones to let off steam. In the summer mornings, why not explore the gardens or swim in the pool, and in the colder winter months we would love to curl up with a good book in front of the log fire.

Pop on your boots in the designated boot room, and walk from this home along the river – for about twenty-nine minutes – to Nunney. Here you can have a great lunch at the George Inn, ice cream or coffee at the cafe, and explore the impressive medieval castle, complete with a moat. 

Visit the market town of Frome – just an eight-minute drive away – with its abundance of independent shops, pubs, and cobbled streets with rivers running down them. Once a month, Frome also hosts a vibrant street market full of artisan food, craft makers, and much more. 

Plus, slightly further away – just thirty-two minutes away by car – you can also reach the city of Bath. Here, you can explore the Roman Baths, the cathedral, see the Royal Crescent, do some shopping, or even spend a day at the spa.

When you're ready to venture out, the Georgian splendour of Bath is a twenty-minute drive away. Spend the day exploring the Royal Crescent, the Circus and the Roman Baths, as well as the many museums such as the Jane Austen Centre. Then unwind at the Thermae Bath Spa with its roof-top pool. For a more relaxed pace, there's a pub and café for lunch in Timsbury, around a five-minute stroll. Or put on your hiking boots and explore the glorious Somerset countryside.

There’s no better way to embrace the ethereal Somerset countryside around Glastonbury than staying in a converted church. In the evening, the stained-glass windows of this gothic church still glow against the landscape, as a roaring wood-burning stove warms up the open living space inside. 30-foot, knaved ceilings inside let the chatter of good times rise to the Gods and there’s a banquet-sized dining table for the whole group on the mezzanine level. Admire the rose stained-glass windows as you sup. 

The kitchen is tucked away and has everything you need for self-catering One of our favourite spots is the sunroom, set with tables and chairs for an idyllic afternoon tea. Either that or the hand-painted claw-foot tub in the main bathroom – ideal for a soak after hiking up Glastonbury Tor. Or, soak the day away in the outdoor hot tub.

This church is tucked into the hamlet of East Horrington, a ten-minute drive from the Cathedral town of Wells where you’ll find shops, cafés and plenty of places to eat. It’s a twenty-minute drive to Glastonbury and the countryside in between is full of walking and cycling trails to explore.

It’s a lovely town to mooch around, set amid Somerset countryside. Woodland walks are right on your doorstep, so make sure you bring your boots. The gorgeous National Trust property of Stourhead is twenty minutes away by car, and is well worth a run out.

In the quintessential country village of Wellow, you’ve got a pub and village shop on your doorstep. An old railway line turned walking path leads right into Bath for those that like a long ramble. Make the most of sunny days with barbecues on the private patio, and enjoy starry skies at night away from the bright lights of the city. Inside, it’s an old hayloft turned apartment with a full kitchen, sitting area, dining table and bed sharing the same area. But it feels spacious thanks to a lofty ceiling and the personal touches like a little library of books and welcome pack are appreciated.

From the moment you see the grand stone exterior and cobbled courtyard, you’ll know that this ever-so-charming home is steeped in history. It's a former malthouse that’s over 300 years old and filled with traditional features. When you step into the entrance hall, you’re entering through the large oak door onto the original cart-way, and as you start trying to choose which bedroom you want to lay claim to, you’ll be winding your way up a turret stairway with rope bannisters, surrounded by wooden beams and original fireplaces. The interior has been fully renovated, with a modern handmade kitchen, squishy sofas, and cute-as-a-button bedrooms. Sip your afternoon tea perched on the sunny window seat with a good book in hand (there's an extensive collection to choose from), while gazing at the expansive green views of the playing fields and village church in the backdrop. Elsewhere, the large 14-seater pine dining table will be the perfect spot to savour a slow dinner with the entire group. Although in the garden you'll notice a patio, complete with outdoor furniture, that’s ideal for wine and cheese nights – there's a large lawn and a range of outdoor games available too (including table tennis) for hours of early evening fun. You don’t have to go far to continue the historical theme, as the pub next door is one of the oldest in the country and has been the resting place for many a monarch visiting the area since the 15th century. The surrounding county town, Frome, just a fifteen-minute drive away, was voted one of the best places to live in the UK - explore the rich history, shop at independent boutiques, buy fresh produce at the local market or dine at one of the many eateries dotted around nearby.

Take the children to Longleat Safari Park, where you can drive through the monkey safari park, admire the gorilla enclosure, find your way through the hedge maze and relax with a cup of coffee at the Chameleon Tree cafe – there's even more on offer too. The National Trust Cley Hill is also within driving distance, a historical landmark that provides a gorgeous view of the countryside – perfect for a lovely walk with the family, offering a ton of photo opportunities to show your loved ones back at home.

A lot of time and thought has been put into converting the historic chapel that is now The Burrow.
