You'll be able to enjoy the views from the private hot tub and garden – although our favourite is the glimpses of the River Severn and Old Severn Bridge from the main bedroom. There’s the all-important log burner for when the weather gets chillier, too. This home is set on a working dairy farm, and your host is happy to give you a tour of the farm – something the kids will probably adore. Just bear in mind, at certain times of the year, the farm can be busy. When you feel like exploring a little further afield, you can visit Chepstow Castle or Lydney in the Forest of Dean.

The design inside lies on the rustic side of things, with exposed stonework and wooden ceiling beams to be spotted alongside a wood-burning stove, a clawfoot bathtub and an ornate bed frame in the master bedroom. That being said, there's a contemporary sheen where it matters, especially in the pastel bedrooms, sleek bathrooms and the kitchen complete with an Aga.

So how would you fill your time at the address? Well, when the weather permits, you can make the most of the large garden with a lawn big enough for games and a patio area for alfresco feasts. We're completely hung up on this home in the Cotswolds, a dreamy apartment that's part of a stunning converted barn. Even arriving here has an ethereal charm, driving past miles of rolling green fields to a home that's a true countryside escape. Opening the front door, what first enamoured us were the high ceilings and French doors – the natural light of the farm outside hits every pocket of the living areas. But this home is more than just its light. It's a mix of rustic cottage and manor house in one, where grand stone fireplaces meet ridiculously comfy armchairs. Upstairs the bedroom is stunning and ornate, its large wooden bed living under vaulted ceilings and hugged by baby blue walls. As part of a working farm, the soundtrack to your stay is the cluck of hens and baa of sheep. Immerse yourself in life here, and you'll likely leave an aspiring farmer.

There’s no need to rush at this rustic old barn in the Cotswolds countryside. As you cross through the secret garden and step inside, you’ll understand. The ancient oak beams speak of a time when this home was originally the annexe to the larger barn next door, and the vaulted ceiling adds space to this studio-sized apartment. The windows look onto the shared garden, where the outdoor bench quickly became our favourite spot for an afternoon cuppa. The petit kitchen has all the necessities for a quick meal, and we couldn’t wait to snuggle down in the huge soft bed after a busy day exploring. Speaking of exploring, you’re on a working farm here and your hosts are more than willing to show you around and a few country walks are on the cards with an Iron Age fort just next door. The cities of Bath and Bristol are only half an hour’s drive away, the perfect distance for a day trip.

The quintessential rural stay awaits at this stone barn conversion, sitting pretty in the rolling hills of the Cotswolds. Come for life on the farm, stay for bright and breezy open-plan living. Although this apartment is on the second floor of the barn, it truly feels like a charming country cottage, the type you might come across after hours exploring enchanted woods. That might be down to the oak beams in the ceiling, or the open-plan living area's wooden floors and simple necessities. We think it's a dream stay for young families in particular. The barn itself is surrounded by pigs, chicken, and other animals, with an Iron Age hillfort to explore on walks around the grounds. There's something mesmerising about getting up close with the animals – it's easy to spend hours out here, especially if you have little ones. You can fire up a barbecue, shared with the other homes on-site, for an alfresco feast. Or live like a local, and visit the pubs and restaurants of nearby Chipping Sodbury.

Come nightfall, you’re far from civilisation so the sky speckles with a blanket of stars – spot constellations from the warmth of the wood-fired hot tub outside or walk to Michelin-star restaurant The Whitebrook, fifteen minutes away. Wandering through the wildflower-strewn garden you’ll find a picnic bench and barbecue for hazy summer days outdoors and rambling walks across the countryside start from just outside the door. Back inside, we love the collection of holiday reads, tucked into bookshelves below the raised bed in the studio. This quirky home can be found in a secluded meadow on the edge of a natural wood, close to the ancient settlement of Penterry. There are stunning views to be discovered nearby, and you can relax and unwind amid the tranquillity of the Wye Valley. The bathroom, with a bathtub and separate shower, is in a separate shepherd’s hut, while the petite kitchen and bedroom are in a studio layout in the main hut.
