We think the best way to discover this exceptionally beautiful landscape, is to stay in an exceptionally beautiful home. On a street of candy-colored cottages, an eight-minute walk from Southwold Pier, your home is painted in a dreamy pale blue, with terracotta roof tiles, and a cute white door beckoning you inside. Built in 1850, you’ll love the original features like exposed wooden beams, a winding staircase, and wood-burning fireplace in the lounge. We think this is the perfect spot to settle down on the sofa, crack open a bottle of fizz, and say cheers to the start of your holiday. Another option would be sipping champagne in the luxurious freestanding tub, or taking celebrations out to your private patio on a sunny afternoon. When you get peckish, take a wander to your nearest chippie, three minutes away. Protect your portion of fish and chips from the seagulls as you stroll one minute down to the promenade and take in the fresh air from the North Sea.

The coastal village of Southwold, like most English seaside towns, has a splendid mix of quaint shops, rustic pubs, and chippies. A twelve-minute walk from its traditional pier, and fourteen from the boating lake, this cottage is a perfect base for exploring the local delights. As you enter through the red brick archway, stepping inside the home is like being transported to old England. You’ll immediately feel a warm welcome for the original wooden beams and fireplace in the lounge. With muted colours throughout, it’s a calming space for a country retreat. White walls bring a fresh and modern feel, with some quirky features like a funky chandelier in the master bedroom. Outside, we love the idea of sitting out in sun on the peaceful patio, with a cup of tea and a novel. And to pique the interest of literature fans, Southwold is a former stomping ground of George Orwell. A far cry from the urban dystopias of some novels, the fictional town from 'A Clergyman’s Daughter' is based on this very village. See if you can find the Orwell plaque in town (hint: follow the smell of fish and chips).

Set in the heart of Southwold, this cute-as-a-button cottage was built by French Huguenots in the 17th century. And while some original features remain, namely the inglenook fireplace and shipyard reclaimed beams, the home has been lovingly renovated to bring it right up to the minute. Breakfast is to be taken in the vibrant courtyard, with produce from the nearby greengrocers and family-run butchers. Pack a picnic and slap on your sun cream – the sand and shingle of Denes Beach await. A ten-minute stroll places you right on the seafront, where bracing swims are optional but soft serve ice cream is compulsory. Return home with a steaming bag of fish and chips or nip to the pub, just two minutes from your doorstep, for some proper grub and a well-deserved gin and tonic.

Take a five minute walk to the pier, shops and chippies of Southwold’s promenade or grab an ice cream from the fantastic shop across the road – if you don't have an ice cream in hand, you're not doing Southwold right. Or spend the day on Southwold Beach, also a five-minute stroll, while a nearby footpath takes you down to the harbour (around a twenty-minute walk), where you can get a foot ferry to Walberswick. Later, relax in the enclosed outdoor courtyard, back at this lovely home. We love the pretty shutters and the shelves full of books here. For the autumn and winter months there are three wood-burning stoves, while two separate reception rooms with sofas and TVs will ensure there’s no squabbling over what movie to watch. It’s a great spot for a family party or festive trip, especially for those who love to cook thanks to its Rangemaster with two ovens. So, why not cook up a feast with some local Suffolk produce for your loved ones.

Southwold is home to many classic English seaside sights. You’ll find a pier, fish and chips, pubs, and even a quaint boating lake. But despite such traditional surroundings, this home defies all expectations of a coastal cottage. A nine-minute walk from the breezy pier, you’ll love coming back here to warm up after a windswept afternoon. This modern and unique building was a former smokehouse, still retaining original exterior features and plenty of character inside. The living space has a striking exposed brick wall, going all the way up to the arch of the vaulted ceiling. With bi-folding glass doors leading out to a courtyard, it’s up to you whether you’d like to dine indoors, or alfresco on the paving stones. Or maybe you’ll need to let the English weather decide. Either way, the glossy, white kitchen is incredibly modern, nothing like the rustic image you might have in mind. Upstairs, the master bedroom offers yet another expectation-defying feature – more bi-folding doors with a private balcony and glass balustrade. Look out over the red tiled rooftops at sunset and clink your champagne flutes as you say cheers to the holiday.

This pretty apartment is the perfect base for a seaside stay in Southwold. It’s a ground-floor home in a prime location – just a five-minute walk to the pier and beach, and ten minutes to the High Street. Soak up the atmosphere of this lovely seaside town by day, and relax in this cosy home from home in the evenings. 

The sun streams through the large bay windows, making the apartment bright and airy. There’s a soft colour palette of calming shades, with a nod to the seaside setting here and there. Before you head out for the day, make yourself a cappuccino – the fully kitted-out kitchen here even has a milk frother. 

Spend your day sunbathing on the beach, indulging in the nostalgia of Southwold’s iconic pier, and promenading past painted beach huts and colourful flowerbeds before strolling home for supper. Perhaps you’ll pick up fish and chips to tuck into once you’re home.

Whisk the family away to this seafront abode, just a short walk from Southwold beach. The sea views are really the highlight here, whether that’s from the bedrooms or the sunny front terrace. There’s only a small courtyard at the rear of the house, so it might not be the best choice for groups that value a large garden for the kids to play in. However, the front garden’s views of Southwold Pier make up for it. The recently renovated home is sleek and luxurious, although we think it might be cramped for all fourteen guests. There are two living areas, though, and four of the six bedrooms are ensuite for comfort. The dining room fits all fourteen guests, too. Don’t fancy cooking? You can take the short 200-yard walk to the pub for dinner.

A Ship of Good Chance

If it's proximity to the beach you're after, you're not going to get much better than this apartment. It takes all of a minute to walk to reach the sands of Southwold Beach, famous for its pastel-coloured huts and pier. You can get a sense of this coastal location without even leaving the flat. Simply step out onto the balcony and gaze out over the rooftops to see the town's lighthouse standing proud. There's seating out here and as is often the case with the seaside, watching the sky change colour at the end of the day can be particularly dramatic. Back inside, the home benefits from high ceilings, a period fireplace and a big bay window in the master bedroom, but a recent renovation has modernised the space in unshowy fashion — we're fans of the soothing colour scheme, the smart tiling in the bathrooms and the pair of pared-back chandeliers in the main living area. Simple, but effective.

When it’s time to explore your surroundings, walk just 200 feet to the High Street for an array of cafes, shops and pubs. Treat yourself to an ice cream then wander along the promenade for ten minutes until you reach Southwold Pier. If you’d like to really give your legs a stretch, set out on the 6 mile Southwold to Walberswick circular walk.

Guests who want to be utterly spoiled on their next holiday should consider this home. Spread across two floors in a privileged location in charming Southwold, enjoy the sweeping sea and village green views from the bedrooms and the living area and terrace.

Just a couple of minutes' walk from sandy Southwold beach, this home sits right in the heart of a classically charming seaside town. You'll be just a short stroll from the eclectic array of shops, restaurants and pubs the town has to offer, and a visit to the local Adnams Brewery promises a great afternoon activity. 

When it comes to keeping yourselves entertained, your options are endless – treat the family to fish and chips on the famous pier, take a spin on the little boating lake or paddle in the shallows. A little further afield, you can walk or cycle paths along the coastline and through the heathland to Walberswick, Dunwich and beyond.

End the evening with a movie night before climbing into the comfortable beds for some well-deserved shut-eye.

In the heart of Southwold, this family-friendly pad is all about rest, relaxation and proximity to the beach. In the light-filled living room, there's wood stacked by the fire ready for cosy nights in (make sure to get first dibs on that snuggly love seat), and books and games will keep you all entertained if the weather doesn't buck up.

But when the sun shines, take things outside into the pretty courtyard garden for lazy breakfasts and countless rounds of tea. And you can always chase the evening rays to the front garden for golden hour drinks as kids and furry friends run about the lawns.

From Southwold, With Love

Wake up to the sound of seagulls and the sight of Southwold's famous white lighthouse. This seaside apartment is airy and bright, courtesy of the big bay window in the living room. Enjoy breakfast perched up at the modern kitchen island, before heading out to explore the town and beach. Both children and adults will enjoy the Victorian Pier, complete with a unique array of artist-made arcade games and simulator rides at the Under The Pier Show. Grab an ice cream and spend the day on the sand – we recommend walking to the southern end of the beach, where the quiet dunes provide wonderful picnicking spots. Or, head back home to your own picnicking spot in the shared garden where lavender blooms in wooden planters and a bistro set is ready for you in the sun.

North Sea Waves

From its enviable position just a minute’s walk from the seafront, this stylish yet comfortable home gives its guests the chance to experience quintessential Southwold at its best. Despite its Victorian exterior, the interiors are polished and modern. Spend unhurried mornings curled up on the floral sofa with a good book before heading into the bright kitchen diner where the appointed chef of your group dishes up a tasty breakfast. 

When the time’s right, slip on your sandals and explore your surroundings. Stroll along the promenade to Southwold Pier, just five minutes away, or awaken the senses with a brisk dip in the North Sea. Enjoy a spot of cream tea in a cafe on the High Street then pick up a souvenir in one of the many gift shops. Watch the fishermen land their catch off the bridge, visit the 19th century lighthouse and embark on the 6-mile Southwold to Walberswick circular walk.

Head back to your abode in the late afternoon for a barbecue dinner in your courtyard and a couple of glasses of wine as the sun begins to set over the Suffolk coast.

Set in the pretty village of Reydon, this cheery family home is a great base for exploring the picturesque Suffolk Coast. Separated by a narrow stretch of water called Buss Creek, you’re just a scenic twenty-walk from the popular neighbouring town of Southwold, and only ten minutes from a footpath that leads to the sandy seafront. This light-filled contemporary space is ideal for a group getaway with its spacious, open-plan ground floor that serves as the perfect hub for family gatherings at any season. Wide bi-fold doors open up to the large garden so meals can be enjoyed around the table, inside or out, and the well-kept lawn is perfect for the little ones to run on. 

Evenings-in come highly recommended as you can cosy up by the wood-burning stove with a game or your favourite TV series before retiring to one of the beautiful bedrooms adorned with some of the owner’s original artwork. The village itself only has two shops but there are plenty of scenic walks and cycle routes to enjoy, and the Reydon Woods Nature Reserve is a must-see with its stunning display of bluebells in the spring.
