Situated close to the south English coastline, this is the sort of remarkable home in which boredom is simply not an option.

There are so many ways to pass your time here. Out in the plant-filled garden, there's a wood-fired hot tub, a barbecue and a verandah with plenty of seating — basically, all you could need for a summer evening soiree. 

When it gets too cold to stay outside, you can head in through the large glass doors and into one of the two games rooms, which feature a foosball table and some big TVs crying out for a movie marathon. If you're musically talented — or even if you're not — there's a drum kit in one of the bedrooms on which you can make a racket. If it's a little too late to do that, take a perch next to the wood-burning fireplace instead.

In the local area, Birdham Pool Marina is just over ten minutes' walk away and there are plenty of rambling routes to embark upon in the surrounding Chichester Harbour AONB. East Wittering Beach is only ten minutes away in the car and the cathedral city of Chichester takes five minutes longer in the opposite direction.

Set in the West Sussex countryside with the coast a short drive away, this home serves up the best of both worlds. Comfortable for up to eight people, there’s plenty of room for everyone to spread out here to enjoy their own space or socialise together as a group – taller guests will just need to be mindful of the sloping ceilings upstairs. The cherry on the cake for us is the garden – generous in size, it’s just the spot for little ones to burn off some energy before a day out exploring.

Experience a unique stay in this cosy refurbished train carriage, nestled in the charming Batchmere. While this home has a guest count of four, it's not suitable for four adults – the sofa converts to a bunk bed for children, but you won't find any safety railings or ladders here, so we recommend sticking to a guest count of two. The yard is spacious and private, complete with a barbecue and fire pit for enjoying romantic dinners under the stars. You'll want a car here – East Wittering Beach and the pebbled shores of Bracklesham Bay are just a short drive away.

When we boast that this amazing home is beachfront, we really mean it, with direct access to Bracklesham beach via the garden, you really couldn’t get much closer. Wander along the pebbled shore with your four-legged friend and listen to the crunch of stones beneath your feet, brave a dip in the sea, or even challenge the kids to build sculptures from the stones. 

Built in the 1920s around a classic railway carriage, this home has been extensively modernised, and expanded over the years but still holds much of that original charm. We would love nothing more than to wake up here to the soothing sound of the waves and seagulls calls before enjoying breakfast on the balcony to truly admire the views. 

Spend the day relaxing at home, reading a good book on the terrace while the children entertain themselves in the playroom which is filled with kids’ books and toys, or taking a dip in the swimming pool. 

Head out for the day and visit West Wittering’s stunning Blue Flag Beach – a short six-minute drive away – for a sandy beach experience, and let the children play in the salty waves and build castles on the sand. Visit Chichester Cathedral – a twenty-seven-minute drive away, or spend a day at the races at Goodwood horse racing course or Goodwood Motor Circuit, reachable by car in twenty-nine minutes and twenty-three minutes, respectively. 

In the evening, dine together as a family, and then when the children are all in bed, why not end the day with a cool glass of wine on the balcony as you enjoy the outstanding sea views.

Back inside, you’ll find the living room sets the tone for cosy movie nights while the snug bedrooms will ensure you awaken feeling refreshed and ready to explore. 

Days can be spent strolling along the seafront, braving invigorating swims, following hiking trails and admiring the beautiful views. You’ll find it's just a short walk (or drive) to the local shops, pubs and restaurants, while the historic city of Chichester is easily reachable by car too.

Well, there's no mystery why this home has made our collection. The apartment is right on the beach in East Wittering, so as you can see, it has great views of the sea from the private sunny balcony as well as most rooms. Yes, the galley kitchen is a bit compact if there are more than two people in there, but it's modern and well-equipped. If you tire of East Wittering Beach (unlikely we know), West Wittering Beach, with its views of Chichester, is less than a ten-minute drive. Otherwise, Chichester Marina is just over ten minutes away in the car, and Goodwood House is around a thirty-minute ride.

Sandwiched between the South Downs National Park and the Chichester Harbour AONB, it doesn’t get more away-from-it-all country glam than this little Sussex nook. It’s on the edge of a wildlife meadow, so sessions on the private terrace come with the soundtrack of birdsong and a gentle summer breeze. Spot wildlife from the warmth of the private hot tub on the deck, or perhaps from the swing seat, strung up on the porch. 

The interior is a reflection of the wilderness location, with wooden artworks featuring fawns and birdlife on display in the cosy bedrooms. The window seat in the master makes for the perfect reading nook, overlooking the meadow, and there’s a desk in here should you need to work remotely. The vaulted, wood-beam ceiling is twisted with stringed lights for a fairytale effect and there’s plenty of room at the rustic wooden table for the group to dine inside (if you’re not enjoying an alfresco meal on the terrace, that is). Come evening time, the plush sofas in the living room are set around a wood-burning stove.

This address might look effortlessly stylish on the surface, but look a little closer and you'll find that all the home comforts are present and correct. In the living room, for instance, there's a log-burner that you can get crackling while you loll about on the plush sofas facing the warmth. Up in the master bedroom — itself painted in a sultry tone of navy blue — there's an eye-catching copper bathtub that will have you scheduling a long uninterrupted soak into your itinerary. The rest of the house is dotted with house plants — especially in the light and airy kitchen-dining room — but if you want a bit more horticulture, head out into the private patio space, which is lined with flourishing beds and potted foliage. There's plenty of seating out here for taking full advantage of bursts of unseasonable weather, as well as a barbecue in case you're truly lucky. Even better is the fact that Chichester's main landmarks are within such easy walking distance. The Cathedral takes five minutes to reach, as does the town's castle.

Only a short stroll from West Wittering Beach, this home provides the perfect base for exploring the West Sussex coast. We love the cosy, seaside-inspired design – think white-washed panelling, wicker furniture, and a cute window seat where you can curl up with a book. Family-style feasts can be rustled up with ease in the kitchen, while the patio is a great place to enjoy an alfresco digestif. As the bunk bed is only suitable for little ones, it's a better fit for families. Factor in the quick drive to Chichester and the proximity to the sea, and it's no wonder it caught our eye.

A timber cabin surrounded by meadows and woodland might sound like a back-to-basics retreat, but at this home in rural Sussex, guests will have a wealth of luxuries at their disposal.

This is before you've even entered the home, as well. Out on the decked terrace, there's a hot tub from which you can enjoy the tranquillity of the local area, as well as a sofa and swing seat. When the sun goes down, there are festoon lights to turn on, plus a charcoal barbecue and fire pit to keep you fed and warm.

If the temperature dips a little too low, there's a wood-burning fireplace inside the home, as well as plenty of cosy blankets and board games. Inside, the design is rustic in places, as with the weathered wood dining table, but the sleek black kitchen and stylish bedrooms are nothing but modern.

When it comes to filling up your itinerary, there's so much to see and do nearby. The sprawling South Downs National Park starts a minute's drive to the north, while the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sits a similar amount of time in the opposite direction. The town of Bognor Regis and its beach can be reached in twenty-five minutes.

While inside the home is well-equipped and tastefully decorated, it’s the outdoor space that caught our eye. Generous gardens invite little ones to run around and play while the grown-ups relax with a glass of wine on the terrace. The cherry on the cake? It’s the hot tub for us – ideal for relaxing under the stars after a busy day exploring all West Sussex has to offer.

Make yourself at home in this contemporary bungalow just 100 metres from the sea. It's perfect for a family – not only will kids have their own room filled with books and toys, but the playhouse in the garden is sure to be a favourite. While they're playing pretend, parents can kick back and relax at the picnic table, enjoying a refreshing drink and free-flowing conversation as the stars pop out overhead. 

During the summer, fling open the patio doors and effortlessly transition between the sunny garden and the sleek living area. Inspired by the coastal setting, the design features deep blues, crisp whites and lots of natural elements – we're particularly fond of the three-piece octopus print hanging near the sofa. When the weather is chilly, the log-burner will keep things nice and toasty as you wind down with a glass of wine and a Netflix movie.

When you're ready to venture out, it's about ten minutes on foot to Bosham village, where you'll find a waterfront pub, cafe and a few shops. The walks along the harbour are excellent, but most of the action lies in Chichester's historic city centre, a seventeen-minute drive away. For a day at the beach, West Wittering's Blue Flag Beach is a must-visit – it's about half an hour away by car.

Though small, this bright garden annexe in Bosham is perfect for solo nomads and couples looking for a romantic coastal break. With a double sofa bed facing the wall-to-wall bi-fold doors, you can wake up to a green view of the shared garden. The kitchen, although not the biggest, has a coffee maker and everything you need for light bites to enjoy alfresco on the terrace. A short drive from Aldwick Beach, Portsmouth and Waterlooville Golf Club, there's a little something for everyone here.

Make the most of sunny days and step through the sliding doors and out into the garden, with its wooden deck and stepping stones winding between raised flower beds.

Its four bedrooms are split between the ground and first floors. The upstairs bedrooms are decked out in trendy OSB, which does away with the need for plastering and painting and adds a warm glow that only natural materials can bring.

The nearby beach is the undoubted star of your stay. However, there's plenty more to discover within a short drive. East Wittering is well-catered for when it comes to cafes, pubs and stocking up on essentials. A little under 10 miles away, the pedestrianised centre of the cathedral city of Chichester is a pleasant place to while away an afternoon. But it’s not all go-go-go here – sometimes all you want to do is read your book beside the pool, basking in the UK’s beautiful south coast. Whip up a pitcher of fruity Pimms to be enjoyed around the outdoor sofa, chatting away while the kids splash in the pool. Or better still – hop in the bubbling jacuzzi for total relaxation.

Kick back with a morning coffee from the espresso machine on the terrace while children play in the vast lawned garden. Or join them for an impromptu game of football – there's goals ready and waiting for action. On cooler days, come together around the vast dining table and break out the home's board games – the underfloor heating will keep toes toasty. Challenge your troops to a round of table football. Or sneak away upstairs for an early evening bath in the master suite – a glass of something chilled optional. When the sea finally calls, the soft sandy shores and dunes are just five minutes away for castle making, kite flying, and, if you're lucky with the swell, surfing. Should tummies start to rumble, there's a cafe at the beach, and the village's gastropub and coffee shop are just three minutes from your door. This is the kind of place we'd recommend for a longer stay, just because we feel that a one-week booking will barely let you scrape the surface of all it has to offer. The insides are designed for a large family to play, relax, and adventure together, especially as the house is well-equipped with cooking supplies, DVDs, and games. But of course, the real highlight of this house is its beautiful natural surroundings – the mudflats outside offer a unique opportunity for wildlife fanatics and birdwatchers to get their wellies on and reconnect with nature. We love how the whole house is designed with the awareness of the natural beauty just outside, and every room has a stunning view that keeps inviting you to go outdoors. The living space benefits from large picture windows, an intricate fireplace and nautical furnishings that make it as homely as it is bright. Speaking of, the luminous conservatory is a light and airy space to enjoy group meals together while keeping one eye out for the lesser spotted red-breasted merganser. Better still, start your day in the calm fresh air – there's a lovely patio and garden area to enjoy your morning coffee from, complete with an outdoor dining table and chairs. When you're ready to explore the nearby towns, we recommend that you start with Chichester's Cathedrals, then take a twenty-minute drive to West Wittering beach for a day trip. If there are Peppa Pig fans in your party, then a visit to Peppa Pig World at Paulton's Park is also a must. While others may enjoy mooching around the picturesque village of Bosham next door – a six-minute drive. There's so much to see and do here, although we wouldn't blame you for spending most of your time languorously birdwatching, playing games and enjoying the scenic waterfront surroundings at home.
