Jemma also offers a menu of wellness retreat packages at an extra cost (think along the lines of yoga and pilates classes, sound baths and meditation instructors). And if you want to learn a new skill, you can also book vegan and raw food cookery courses – there are even creative tutorials in things like art and photography. You'll find a lot of artwork and antiques here, so it might not be the best place for small children. You're in for a countryside treat, though – the views are wonderful, walking trails are nearby, and the garden faces west meaning the sunsets are truly awe-inspiring. You'll receive fresh eggs from the owner's chickens upon arrival, and you might be paid a visit by the resident Jack Russell terrier during your stay. This charming cottage with bags of character makes for a joyful escape from reality. It’s set on a large, seven-acre estate with a dramatic gravel driveway, but the cottage has its own entrance and is completely private. The neat bedroom has a plump king-sized bed, with velvet cushions and layered blankets which push the snug factor up a couple of notches. Occupying the top two floors of this former Victorian photographer's studio is a light-filled, contemporary space that's perfect for anyone looking to explore the South Downs. From here, you can enjoy all the benefits of easy access to everything you need, with the tranquillity of a rural setting. Your hosts have designed the entire apartment with the needs of their guests in mind. The three individually decorated, stylish bedrooms offer luxurious accommodation for up to six people on the first floor. Plus, there's a sofa bed in the studio for an additional two guests. The top floor is more vibrant, with bold colours and eye-catching design, including what we would usually call floor-to-ceiling windows, except these ones take over half of the roof as well. The kitchen is equipped with everything the savvy chef might need to rustle up delicious group dinners. Step onto the streets of the historic market town of Petworth, and you'll find antique shops, cafes and the National Trust Petworth House and Park. Slightly further afield, you're a mere twenty minutes from glorious Goodwood – famous for its historic racetrack and Festival of Speed – and half an hour from the coast at Climping. There are so many events locally that it's well worth a bit of research before you arrive.

One of a collection of three cottages on a thirteen-acre working farm in West Sussex, this home is nowhere near as rustic as these details might suggest. Step behind the front door and you'll find an interior that's contemporarily styled with a few quirky touches.

The stark white walls and sleek tiling make for a blank canvas against which the colourful cushions and hand-painted kitchen chairs really pop off. As well as that, the modern grey kitchen and pristine bathrooms are a world away from the back-to-basics country cottages that pepper the map in these parts – the rolltop bathtub in particular is sure to make a lot of guests very happy.

When the weather's on your side, there's a private outdoor space with an alfresco table and barbecue, but it's also lovely to wander about the shared parts of the site. The hosts run a private stud and breed native ponies, so if you're lucky, you might see a foal or two during your stay.

The home is blessed when it comes to location, sitting almost equidistantly between South Downs National Park and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – as you might imagine, there's a wealth of walking routes to embark upon that start straight from the farm or just a short drive away. The seaside isn't too far away, either – you can get over to Worthing in just over half an hour in the car.

In the area, you'll find quaint pubs, rural vineyards, and the South Downs National Park.

Inside, the living area is packed with colour and comfort. Upstairs, you'll find stripped-back floorboards and antique furnishings. There's no denying that this home has been restored beautifully, but it's eco-friendly too. 

After strolling along the bridleway, bake a shepherd's pie in this vibrant kitchen and gather your family around the many-hued dining table. Feel free to rummage through the bookshelf and light the log burner, or see what's new on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

There's a barbecue on hand and spare wellies here too – so you can enjoy country life in all winds and weathers. Across the beloved courtyard, don't forget to challenge your loved ones to a match on the old Bonzini football table in the games room.

This is a place where you can reconnect with nature. Ponies are bred on this farm, so you might even be lucky enough to spot a foal. There isn't much light pollution around either, which means you can see starry skies on clear nights.

Set on a farm in West Sussex, this charming cottage is the perfect couple’s retreat or solo getaway. The interiors are bright and fun, with pops of block colour punctuating each room. Downstairs there’s a cosy living area with a wood burning stove, which you can put a log on and curl up in front of a film in the evening. The modern kitchen is well stocked for cooking up homely meals, or on warm days fire up the barbecue and enjoy lunch alfresco at the wooden table outside. Look out the kitchen window and you might spot Nellie and Maggie, the shaggy Shetland ponies whose paddock is twenty feet away. Feel free to give them a carrot or two! 

The cottage is on a farm run by your hosts. You are surrounded by the great outdoors here, and you’ll have direct access to footpaths and bridleways which take you through the farm and out into the picturesque countryside beyond. As you walk out, stop by the Stud house, where you can say hello to the native ponies in their stable. The village of Billingshurst is a four-minute drive away, where you’ll find a supermarket and some local country pubs. Pay a visit to the Nyetimber vineyard, a fourteen-minute drive away, and pick up some of their excellent sparkling wine. After a day of exploring, there’s nothing better than enjoying a glass of bubbly back at home as the sun sets over the fields.

In winter months, the traditionally English interiors of the vast sitting room and dining area create a delightful homey feel, and the mighty double aspect fireplace will keep everyone toasty. 

A home perfectly suited for large group getaways – four of your guests can spill out into the old diary next door, reimagined into a smart guest annex for that extra privacy. And over in the main house, the bedrooms can only be described as suites, with each boasting a sitting room and en-suite bathroom.

When it's time for a change of scene, take a stroll into Kirdford (twenty minutes) to pick up a paper from the village shop and grab a swift pint at the local gastropub. Or jump in the car to the charming market town of Petworth (a ten-minute drive away) for a mosey about the shops and cafes.

This former bakery has plenty of character and charm, making it a solid option for an escape to West Sussex. Built in the 1800s, it's been well maintained, renovated to a high standard and tastefully decorated throughout. We loved the original features (like the sash windows, fireplaces and bakers’ oven); good-size modern kitchen, with a central island for chatting over a glass of wine; king-size beds with crisp, fresh linens; and the sweet courtyard garden: a real little sun trap. The home's location, right in the heart of the town of Arundel, gives easy access to coffee shops, pubs and independent shops – particularly for those who love browsing for art and antiques – as well as stunning views over the famous castle as well. You’re just a few minutes drive to great spots on the South Coast – less than 20 to Worthing; 40 into Brighton – making this a great spot, whether you're into sightseeing or just atmospheric and cosy places to stay.

Located right in the heart of Arundel, this Grade-II listed Victorian townhouse has stunning views over the castle and the Gothic cathedral on top of the hill. Originally designed and built by Joseph Hansom (the architect behind Arundel Cathedral), there are plenty of traditional features inside to admire. Modern gadgets like a flat-screen smart TV and slick wine fridge are seamlessly incorporated into the decor alongside original fireplaces, windows and chandelier-hung ceiling roses. We loved the mix of furniture, with individual pieces specially selected to fit each room, as well as the charming courtyard garden. Overall, we felt the home was warm, inviting, comfortable and very clean. Add in the location – just a two-minute walk from the high street – and it's a winner. Arundel is quaint and charming with pretty shops, art galleries, pubs, coffee shops and a fairytale castle to discover. Right by the river Avon and near to excellent walks in the South Downs, you're also close to great spots on the South Coast – it's less than twenty minutes to Worthing and about a forty-minute drive from Brighton. This is a lovely option for a family looking to linger for a while and enjoy a slower pace of life, within easy driving distance of the seaside.

Relish long, lazy mealtimes in the light-filled orangery dining room, flowing through to the family room and kitchen. There are cosy nooks to hunt out too for some 'you time' – the study with storybook armchair and the obligatory wood burner has our vote. When the great outdoors finally calls, you'll find a world of unspoiled natural beauty awaits in the South Downs, with rambling walks right on your doorstep. Despite its secluded location, you're just five miles from the perfectly preserved market town of Petworth – lined with charming cafes, classic pubs and plenty of antique shops. In fact, it's been crowned 'Best Antiques Town' and draws interior designers and serious collectors from all over the country, so you better start clearing some space.

Situated on a small family-run agricultural nursery, we think this luxury lodge is the perfect place to switch off and recharge. Not only is the location excellent – the idyllic South Downs are practically on your doorstep – but the attention to detail here is second-to-none. Rainfall showers and eco-friendly toiletries in the bathrooms, Netflix on the smart TVs and a panini maker in the kitchen are just a few of the things we love. The design is impeccable with blue velvet, dark greys and lots of wood. It's the perfect blend between rustic, country living and contemporary comforts, with chic furniture handmade by host Lucca. Speaking of, he'll leave a welcome hamper brimming with goodies for you to enjoy, and depending on the season, it'll contain fresh Italian fruit and veg grown on their farm. 

Days start and end here out on the deck, enjoying alfresco breakfasts in the sun and evening dips in the private hot tub. In between, set off and explore the local area – just walk out the front gates and you're on the National Trust South Downs footpath, leading towards Highdown Hill. A fourteen-minute walk away is the local pub, a few eateries and shops in Ferring, and it's only a five-minute drive to the beach. And with Worthing, Chichester and Brighton all less than an hour by car, you'll have plenty of options for adventures around West Sussex.

Idyllically situated in the beautiful countryside surrounding the historic Arundel – this classic English thatched cottage has fabulous views over the rolling hills of the South Downs, towards Arundel Castle. Later, relax in the sun on the sun loungers with a glass of wine from the complimentary bottle in the welcome pack.

We love all of the character features in this home – it's the perfect weekend retreat for a family or group of friends, as it's just over an hour away from London.

Situated in the picturesque hamlet of Wepham – this cottage is ideal for bird watchers and walkers – there are plenty of country walks right on your doorstep. Tucked away behind the old schoolhouse in the peaceful village of Angmering, a handful of pubs and shops are a few minutes walk from the front door. We're not exaggerating when we say this home is seconds away from the seaside. Perched next to East Preston's shingled shores and a short walk from the village's shops and eateries, you're no more than a five-minute stroll from everything you'll need. Furry friends and little ones will enjoy the sprawling garden at home. Complete with an alfresco dining table, a tyre swing, and lots of space to run amuck, it's an excellent option for post-beach hangouts. Inside, it's bright, cosy and roomy enough for the whole family. Most bedrooms are upstairs, and the ground-floor bunk bed is only suitable for children. Although this three-storey home was only built in recent years, much of the interior design takes inspiration from retro trends. Many of the furnishings are mid-century in style and there are 1970s flourishes peppered about in the form of overhanging metallic lamps and swirly feature walls in the living rooms. That being said, the pristine white kitchen is as modern as they come, as are the bathrooms. Outside, guests get the benefit of not one, but two terraces, with space to cook, eat and relax. The location gives plenty of options for excursions in the great outdoors, too. It's possible to get on a footpath running alongside the River Adur in less than a minute on foot which is a great base for kayaking and paddleboarding, and leads to a 37-mile long track through the South Downs National Park. Shoreham Beach is a mere ten-minute walk via the high street which boasts an abundance of pubs, restaurants and shops, and the Brighton seaside only takes twenty-three minutes to reach in the car.

The historic home boasts an open fireplace, a cosy snug, and a large garden with an alfresco dining area – perfect for enjoying locally-sourced treats from the local farm shop (a two-minute drive away). And if you want to explore the surrounding area, the nearby South Downs are ideal for hiking or mountain biking.

Set just opposite Worthing Beach, this period apartment certainly delivers on location. It's seafront living at its finest, and it's no surprise that the views here are second to none. The best spot to enjoy them is on the private balcony – especially when the sun rises – though the living area also boasts panoramas worth writing home about. While two guests will sleep on the sofa bed, with scenery like that to wake up to, we don't think they'll mind.

This address might look effortlessly stylish on the surface, but look a little closer and you'll find that all the home comforts are present and correct. In the living room, for instance, there's a log-burner that you can get crackling while you loll about on the plush sofas facing the warmth. Up in the master bedroom — itself painted in a sultry tone of navy blue — there's an eye-catching copper bathtub that will have you scheduling a long uninterrupted soak into your itinerary. The rest of the house is dotted with house plants — especially in the light and airy kitchen-dining room — but if you want a bit more horticulture, head out into the private patio space, which is lined with flourishing beds and potted foliage. There's plenty of seating out here for taking full advantage of bursts of unseasonable weather, as well as a barbecue in case you're truly lucky.
