Come evening, retire to one of many lavish lounges inside, or gather in the banquet-sized dining table. Kids and big kids will enjoy the games room with its pool table and retro arcade games and if you’re hosting a special celebration, there’s a function room that can seat up to 50 people in grand surrounds. This is one of those spots where memories are made.

The Country Slicker

Housed within a restored Grade II listed Georgian building in Clitheroe, this elegant ground floor apartment puts you in an ideal spot to explore the Lancashire countryside, including the Ribble Valley and the enchanting Forest of Bowland. We love the plump blue sofa beside the pretty shuttered picture window, as well as the modern abstract art that gives the room plenty of stylish character. The sleek kitchen invites warming homecooked meals to be enjoyed at the beautiful round table, while both bedrooms have been carefully curated to ensure you get a tranquil night’s sleep. With a shared courtyard garden to enjoy – whether in the morning over coffee or the evenings with a sunset glass of bubbly – you’ve got everything you need for a comfortable stay. Outside of your home, the ancient ruins of Clitheroe Castle are a three-minute walk away, while the Forest of Bowland is a five-minute drive (or just under forty minutes away on foot). Factor in the walks along the River Ribble and the charming shops and pubs right on your front door, and there’s no end to the enjoyment this perfectly positioned home provides.

Yorkshire Gem

This Casterton cottage has lived many lives in its rich history, most notably as the school Charlotte Brontë and her sisters attended in the 1800s. To stay here is to stay in literary history. Recently renovated, the cottage has a new life as a home where high ceilings meets joyous splashes of colour and comfortable furnishings. All the home comforts are here, and the cottage is hugged by a charming little village. A five-minute drive away lies the historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, where you're sure to pick up charming souvenirs and fresh local produce. Further afield, take to the water at Lake Windermere, a half-hour drive from your front door. 

Brontë Schoolhouse

Set in a tiny hamlet above bohemian Hebden Bridge, the location of this home is everything.  Thick with artists, crafters, beekeepers, and people who like to do things a bit differently, HB must be one of the most unique villages in England. That quirky, independent spirit carries through into this cottage, with its eclectic mix of furnishings. Think classical with touches of the Middle East, craft crockery and striking wall art. The tree-filled garden is just the place for a morning chai latte, before browsing Hebden Bridge’s independent boutiques, watching an art-house film at the 1920s Picture House, or making a literary pilgrimage to Sylvia Plath’s grave in the ruined churchyard across the road. If you’d like an outdoorsy interlude from all that arts and culture, the surrounding countryside is prime territory for hiking. Come back to your small but perfectly formed base for an evening of love, laughter and stories around the firepit. 

Counting Stars

Walking into this beautiful cottage, you’d probably not be able to tell that it is over three-hundred-years old, or that it has a fair amount of experience as a coaching inn. Save for the exposed beams, brickwork, and basic structure, this home’s undergone a complete makeover that’s turned it into a very hospitable, little home. We, of course, love historic touches and found that the ones present here add a bucketload of charm to this home, and the choice of furnishings only further serves to make this space comfortable and inviting. Sink into the plush velvet sofa – by the way, we think the blue around the house brings a brilliant luxe contrast to the space – with the fire crackling at your feet as you catch up on your reading. 

Reading that can also be done outside when the weather is just right. Head out with a cup of coffee and embrace the peace and quiet, enjoying the view of the cathedral when you’ve put your book down for a quick break. 

Back inside, the kitchen – which features a beautiful aga cooker – connects to a dining room by the way of a conservatory, which makes even cooking a social affair as some guests can get breakfast ready whilst others bask in the light streaming in from up above. 

As if this home could get much better, it’s also very close to the famous Peak District National Park and a day out there, admiring the lakes and moors as you hike the round hills, is an absolute must. When you return too tired to cook, head to the local pub or chip shop for a quintessentially British end to your day.

Tideswell Cottage

Quintessential English living meets countryside tranquility in this beautiful stone cottage. Nestled in the quiet village of Foolow in Derbyshire, you'll feel at one with nature from being surrounded by miles of green fields. Whether you want to go out and wander around them, play games with the family, or just stay at home admiring the scenery from afar, you're sure to enjoy the surroundings either way. The garden of this home is particularly special. The outside seating area is tailor-made for enjoying an evening tipple. Why not sample the local Lindway Brook champagne and toast to making wonderful memories? When the light starts to fade, head inside and put your feet up in the lounge while the wood burner glows away.

Being situated in the Peak District, this cottage is in an ideal location to make the most of one of the UK's most beautiful regions. Get the boots on and hike one of the many trails here, or jump on two wheels and cycle to a nearby destination. We recommend the seventy-minute cycle to Buxton – a lovely town dating back to the Roman times that's known for its natural thermal springs. Soak your tired muscles before heading back to the cottage for the evening.

Green Fields

Within a mile of Sheffield's city centre, this contemporary home makes a good base for your adventures. Broomhall is home to tree-lined streets, coffee shops and pubs, two universities, and Sheffield Botanical Gardens. It's quiet yet still close to all the action. Back home, you can enjoy sunny days in the private garden or spend chilly evenings getting cosy in the living area. In addition to the three comfortable bedrooms, the lounge features a sofa bed for one guest. Desks are available for digital nomads, a sleek kitchen is ideal for home chefs, and pets are welcome to tag along for a fee.

Broomhall in Bloom

Ground yourself at this bolthole cottage squirreled away in the sprawling 3000-acre estate of a sixteenth-century manor house in the Yorkshire countryside.

Trotting about the grounds, spotting wildlife and birds along the way, you could feel a million miles from civilisation. Yet the picture-perfect market town of Skipton, lying in the foothills of the Dales, is just an eight-minute drive away.

Though you may find you have all you need back at home. Brave the river for a spot of wild swimming. Admire the imposing historic hall lying at the heart of the estate. Or give forest bathing a whirl - just one of many wellbeing events organised on the exclusive estate. 

Should thoughts turn to food, search out the estate's bistro in the walled garden - also the setting for your complimentary free breakfast each morning. Or follow the woodland path leading to a gastro-pub (seven minutes on foot) for hearty upper-crust grub.

When it comes to the evening's end, this cottage is a delight to return home to. Cosy up beside the fire with your loved ones and a good book. Or on balmy evenings, take things outside into the enclosed cottage garden as the birds strike up their evening chorus. There's plenty of space for little ones and furry friends alike to run amuck, while you kickback with a sundowner. 

Take a Leaf

Nestled in Sutton-on-the-Forest, just 8 miles north of York, this charming 18th-century cottage welcomes you in with open arms. Perfect for families, the generous country kitchen will quickly become the place where everyone gathers, spilling out into the walled garden for alfresco dining in summer months. The owners live next door and share the gravelled parking area, but you won't hear a peep from them unless you need their help. For those keen to explore the great outdoors, especially if your four-legged friends have joined you for your stay, cross the road and you can walk the ancient woodland of the Sutton Park estate. Further afield, the North York Moors are just a short drive away. 

The Woodlark

It's easy to fall in love with the landscapes that inspired one of the greatest love stories of all time, Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. This cottage, with its stunning views over the moors and Haworth, is a fabulous, romantic retreat. Enjoy the vistas with a glass of Prosecco (your lovely hosts provide a complimentary bottle, as well as strawberries and flowers). This place is perfect for couples celebrating an anniversary or those who just want to pamper themselves (and who doesn't?). We love the log burner, Yorkshire flag-stone floors and the four-poster bed. Have a luxurious soak in the freestanding roll-top bath after your journey – this opulent room has underfloor heating for toasty toes too. Your host Catherine really has thought of everything here.

When you're ready to explore, spend idyllic days roaming the countryside and moors right on your doorstep, like Brontë’s Heathcliff and Cathy. Or go for a ten-minute drive to literary mecca Haworth, and wander around its cobbled streets and the iconic parsonage.
