The farm is believed to date back to the 17th century, and the surrounding landscape hasn't changed much in all that time. Lace up your hiking boots and follow any number of footpaths that pass right by the front door. Lake Bank pier is just ten minutes on foot and is perfect for summer swims, canoe launches and paddle boarding.  Alternatively, head north to Coniston Boating Centre for boat hire and trips on the beautifully restored Victorian steam-powered Gondola.

Situated on the shores of Lake Windermere, it has wonderful views and an acre of garden, as well as several balconies. There’s a terrace for dining and relaxing, as well as a jetty where you can moor a boat or kayak. The interior of this home is impressive too with its designer furniture and ski lodge feel. A home cinema and a games room with a bespoke 8-foot pool table will keep everyone entertained. And all the bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows – two also have oval baths overlooking the lake. This place has been designed with total luxury in mind.

This charming apartment is located in the heart of Ambleside, the gateway to the Lake District. It boasts stunning views of the surrounding town, mountains, and lakes from every window, and is just a short walk from the shops, restaurants, and pubs. The apartment won’t suit those seeking a modern, sleek holiday home but we think the slightly dated style adds to the charm.

Outside, there’s a decked area for lunches in the sunshine and an enclosed garden for four-legged friends. Inside, the living area is kept warm with a wood-burning stove. If we had to be picky, we’d say the bathroom could do with a refresh, though it functions fine. The Cambrian Way passes by the front of the home, making the place ideal for walkers. Plus, the bustling market town of Ulverston, which holds a twice-weekly market, is a ten-minute drive away.

There aren’t many places that really embrace the away-from-it-all feel of the deepest darkest Lake District, and this one is housed on an estate once owned by the son of William Wordsworth. Fields fringed by drystone walls and hillsides dotted with sheep are home to walking and cycling trails right from your doorstep. The River Rothay flows right past the garden where fairytale-esque stepping stones connect you to the other side of the bank. Following the riverside walk, you’ll end up in the pretty village of Ambleside in twenty minutes where shops and cafés abound and watersports on Lake Windermere are on offer. The home itself is an eco getaway, housed in a circular stone building designed to blend into the fells behind it. Make the most of countryside views from the terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows. The open living room, kitchen and dining room is flooded with light during the day and the high-spec kitchen is a cook’s dream. Plus, there’s underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove to keep things cosy warm. At sundown, there’s no better place than the furnished patio for a tipple or two as the sky streaks orange and pink.

This classic yet contemporary home is just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Ambleside and perfectly placed to capture a picturesque glimpse of the steeple of St Mary's Church rising above the trees. And when you return from the day's adventures, stroll down to one of the country pubs for dinner and a restorative pint of ale, or simply flop down in that spacious living room.
