You'll feel a little like Alice in Wonderland as you walk around the rooms - things seem to get more curious as you go (in the best way possible, of course). Out in the garden, things stay very Lewis Carroll - we love the candy-floss wisteria and bluebell woodland for the backdrop of a leisurely stroll. There's also a heated swimming pool and a private tennis court, plus a Par 3 golf hole, an outdoor fire pit, a boules court and a football field, so you really will have everything needed for an endlessly fun-filled stay here. A former coach house, this charming home benefits from high vaulted ceilings with wooden beams and exposed brick walls, as well as a cosy fire in the living room – the perfect spot to gather around on chilly evenings. But it's the owner's personal treasures that make this place truly special, with art objects collected from their travels in Asia, including vintage artwork and a horse's muzzle. The location is fantastic too - Lacock is a picturesque National Trust village and is often used as a filming location – any fans of Downton Abbey or Harry Potter? It has a host of cafes, delis and traditional pubs nearby, while further down the road you’ll find beautiful Bath in less than thirty minutes.

Nestled in the secluded Wiltshire countryside, this rural cottage will inspire you to unplug and unwind. We love the original blue sash windows downstairs, but the real showstopper is the master bedroom, which is bright and cosy. Sink into the cushy armchair in front of the windows with a good book and cup of tea or relax with a soak in the roll-top, clawfoot bathtub. When the sun goes down, rustle up a meal in the quaint country-style kitchen – best enjoyed around the antique table set for two – then snuggle up in front of the wood-burning stove for a cosy night at home. Set on an organic farm with countless nature walks on your doorstep, this is a great spot to switch off and get in touch with nature. But if you're in the mood for a change of pace, Bath is just a twenty-minute drive away.

The owners live just down the hill, but you’ll have your own private garden where you can relax in the wood-fired hot tub (available for an extra fee) or if you prefer staying indoors, there's a roll-top bath. Dressing gowns are provided for extra comfort (just bring your own slippers), and the little kitchen has everything you could need for light bites and drinks.

Even before you enter, it’s clear that there’s something special about Faerie World. The high position of the cottage gives a heavenly view of the stream below, and you can hear the babbling water from the terrace, which is itself surrounded by flowers, and makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale. Once inside, the living room and bedroom don’t disappoint. The bedroom in particular, with its Farrow & Ball colours, stands out. The kitchen doesn’t have the same aesthetic charm, but that’s a small gripe, and shouldn't give you any cause for concern.

If you’re looking to experience the historic heart of Bath, this traditional Georgian townhouse delivers the perfect solution. Set across four floors, the rooms are well-suited to family gatherings with two cosy sitting rooms, a sociable kitchen and dining area as well as a small courtyard. There is no private parking available here, but there is a carpark nearby and you’ll find everything you could need within easy walking distance. It’s worth noting there is no garden here, but you will have a sweet little balcony and plenty of lounging space across the living room and bedrooms. Stroll just seven minutes to visit the historic Roman baths and explore the high street boutiques, cafes and restaurants that surround it. There's no need to drive or even use public transport here, as most of the city is within reach of a convenient walk from your apartment.

Speaking of exploring, you’re on a working farm here and your hosts are more than willing to show you around and a few country walks are on the cards with an Iron Age fort just next door. The cities of Bath and Bristol are only half an hour’s drive away, the perfect distance for a day trip.

We're completely hung up on this home in the Cotswolds, a dreamy apartment that's part of a stunning converted barn. Even arriving here has an ethereal charm, driving past miles of rolling green fields to a home that's a true countryside escape. Opening the front door, what first enamoured us were the high ceilings and French doors – the natural light of the farm outside hits every pocket of the living areas. But this home is more than just its light. It's a mix of rustic cottage and manor house in one, where grand stone fireplaces meet ridiculously comfy armchairs. Upstairs the bedroom is stunning and ornate, its large wooden bed living under vaulted ceilings and hugged by baby blue walls. As part of a working farm, the soundtrack to your stay is the cluck of hens and baa of sheep. Immerse yourself in life here, and you'll likely leave an aspiring farmer.

Decorated and previously owned by a superyacht owner, the space is all about glossy polished finishes and bespoke designer details, from the Andrew Martin furnishings to the main bedroom’s cushions by Westwood and McQueen’s former textile designer. More luxe additions include a boiling water tap in the kitchen, the bathroom’s freestanding tub and Egyptian cotton bedding. What’s more, you’ve got access to a beautiful communal garden –  a reminder of the former orchard here tended by the Abbey’s Benedictine brethren.

This modern country escape on the outskirts of Bath is built on an old horse stable site, overlooking the gorgeous Somerset countryside – if that doesn't scream out sweet rural whisperings, then we don't know what will. It would make a great stay for a family or large group of friends eager to explore the UNESCO World Heritage centre of Bath – a twenty-minute drive away – as well as Bristol (20 miles), Stroud and the countryside around Charlcombe, where you can walk in the footsteps of Jane Austen herself – under half a mile from your estate. Return home after a blissful day spent sightseeing, walking and basking in the sunshine. Stepping in to look around the decor, you'll notice a uniquely designed home with five bedrooms, a slick marble-topped island kitchen and an open-plan living quarter with huge sofas and views over the fields beyond – courtesy of the stylish floor-to-ceiling and black framed windows. Outside, you'll find a private patio, complete with garden furniture – we can think of no better way to start the day, than with a sunny breakfast sat out here. Gaze into the rolling green fields as you work from home at the dedicated office space. Come evening, sit down for a slow feast with the entire group in the chic dining area. No effort nor expense has been spared in creating this retreat that feels fresh and contemporary, while still holding onto its idyllic country roots.

One of the things that we like most about The Austen is the way that it has retained its sense of history. The building is over 250 years old, and the hosts have managed to keep many of the original features, including the wood panelling, fireplaces, and Georgian shutters. The home is also in the very centre of Bath. As in, less than five minutes on foot to the Roman baths themselves (and the same distance to the station, which while less glamorous, is also worth knowing). Even if it weren’t kept so well, it would be a good base for exploring the city, but as it is, staying here is simply a delight.

This penthouse apartment is part of a converted Grade II listed Georgian chapel, originally built in 1795. It’s a stylish home-from-home, with neon signs, a turntable and vinyl, and a cocktail-making station. The living space and main bedroom both lead to a balcony, where you can unwind after a day of sightseeing in the city centre – it’s only a ten-minute walk away.
