The Old Chapel is a beautifully renovated home set in one of the area’s prettiest villages. It’s perfect for couples looking for a quiet, romantic retreat or young families with one or two small children. There are plenty of great walks along the Kennet & Avon Canal, just minutes from your door, as well as the Ridgeway and Savernake Forest, just a thirteen-minute drive away. The Wootton Rivers village is within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so you’ll really be spoilt for choice with so much to see and do. Evenings are best spent with a glass of wine by the fire or sitting in the garden watching out for the barn owl that often swoops by the Chapel – and it's certainly big enough for a dog too. Original features include a solid oak arch door, arch windows and an exterior wall clock, which give this home oodles of character and charm, meaning you'll enjoy cosy nights in at this home feeling the bucolic calm. But if you feel like stretching your legs, the village has a 16th-century thatched pub that you'll be able to walk to in around three minutes. For foodies there is a wide choice of excellent restaurants in the local area – we’d especially recommend Stein’s or Dan's at the Crown, both located a ten-minute drive away. And for those ticking things off their bucket list, the world-famous Stonehenge is a forty-minute drive from your comfy home.

Situated in the picturesque North Wessex Downs and just a five-minute from Marlborough's bustling High Street, this Grade II-listed cottage is an absolute charmer. Your hosts have recently refreshed the interior, going beyond the usual lick of paint and new carpets, going as far as to kit it out with a brand new bespoke kitchen complete with a stunning range – perfect for the home cooks out there.

That said, Marlborough is blessed with plenty of options when it comes to dining out. Top picks include Rick Stein, which serves up modern British fare – Dan's at the Crown offers elevated versions of the classics, plus the Michelin Guide recommended The Bell at West Overton, where you'll tuck into Mediterranean-inspired dishes just a four-mile drive out of town.

Continue a few minutes further along the road, and it won't be long before you end up in Avebury, home to Europe's largest neolithic stone circle. If that whets your appetite, then it's a forty-minute drive south to Stonehenge, the world's most famous and sophisticated stone circle. 

For a day trip to a historic location with a less mysterious past, the charming city of Bath is an hour away. With beautiful Georgian architecture, contemporary culture and astonishingly well-preserved Roman baths, there's a reason it's regarded as an obligatory stop on so many itineraries.

Come together for a meal around the dining table – prepared in the sleek kitchen – or, on warm days, enjoy an evening tipple in the garden while the kids let loose in the play area. From the moment you see the grand stone exterior and cobbled courtyard, you’ll know that this ever-so-charming home is steeped in history. It's a former malthouse that’s over 300 years old and filled with traditional features. When you step into the entrance hall, you’re entering through the large oak door onto the original cart-way, and as you start trying to choose which bedroom you want to lay claim to, you’ll be winding your way up a turret stairway with rope bannisters, surrounded by wooden beams and original fireplaces. The interior has been fully renovated, with a modern handmade kitchen, squishy sofas, and cute-as-a-button bedrooms. Sip your afternoon tea perched on the sunny window seat with a good book in hand (there's an extensive collection to choose from), while gazing at the expansive green views of the playing fields and village church in the backdrop. Elsewhere, the large 14-seater pine dining table will be the perfect spot to savour a slow dinner with the entire group. Although in the garden you'll notice a patio, complete with outdoor furniture, that’s ideal for wine and cheese nights – there's a large lawn and a range of outdoor games available too (including table tennis) for hours of early evening fun. You don’t have to go far to continue the historical theme, as the pub next door is one of the oldest in the country and has been the resting place for many a monarch visiting the area since the 15th century. The surrounding county town, Frome, just a fifteen-minute drive away, was voted one of the best places to live in the UK - explore the rich history, shop at independent boutiques, buy fresh produce at the local market or dine at one of the many eateries dotted around nearby.

Even before you enter, it’s clear that there’s something special about Faerie World. The high position of the cottage gives a heavenly view of the stream below, and you can hear the babbling water from the terrace, which is itself surrounded by flowers, and makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale. Once inside, the living room and bedroom don’t disappoint. The bedroom in particular, with its Farrow & Ball colours, stands out. The kitchen doesn’t have the same aesthetic charm, but that’s a small gripe, and shouldn't give you any cause for concern.

Situated on a historic private estate in the heart of Gloucestershire, this dreamy cottage is the perfect setting for your next family getaway to the Cotswolds. 

You’d be hard-pressed to find a cosier base than this – boasting a snug living room complete with soft throws and a toasty fireplace, this is the kind of place we all dream of coming home to after a chilly day in the English countryside. Warm up with a cup of tea on the sofa or head upstairs to the family bathroom for a relaxing bubble bath before drifting off to sleep in one of the cottage's quiet bedrooms.

The next morning, start your day with a breakfast of locally produced organic goodies from the local farm shop or – if the weather’s on your side – head out to the garden and soak up some sun. This is the perfect place for little ones and four-legged friends to roam but there’s plenty to explore in the local area if you fancy a change of scenery. One of the things that we like most about The Austen is the way that it has retained its sense of history. The building is over 250 years old, and the hosts have managed to keep many of the original features, including the wood panelling, fireplaces, and Georgian shutters. The home is also in the very centre of Bath. As in, less than five minutes on foot to the Roman baths themselves (and the same distance to the station, which while less glamorous, is also worth knowing). Even if it weren’t kept so well, it would be a good base for exploring the city, but as it is, staying here is simply a delight. 


The Austen

Avon Stream juxtaposes the old and the new oh so perfectly. From a Georgian façade and original fireplaces to modern furnishings and contemporary finishes – the home offers a contrast with elegance and style throughout. A lot of care has also been put into the quality of the furniture – we deem the mattresses to be a particular highlight. We also. love that the entire basement floor of this home is underfloor heated – blissful in the winter months when you can kick off your shoes and just unwind. Add into the mix, gig sash windows, high ceilings, and the central (yet surprisingly peaceful) location – and you've got yourself a pristine base from which to explore the picturesque city of Bath. Stroll just seven minutes to visit the historic Roman baths and explore the high street boutiques, cafes and restaurants that surround it. There's no need to drive or even use public transport here, as most of the city is within reach of a convenient walk from your apartment.

Spread out across three floors in this modern townhouse. Unique wooden furniture imported from India adds a touch of elegance to the minimalist, white decor. Get together for movie night in the modern living area (there’s Netflix on the smart TV). Breakfast can be made that bit brighter by throwing open the French doors and letting the sunshine in. Or, take the whole show out to the patio on a summer morning. If the kids tire of playing in the Wendy House in the garden, there’s a play park just around the corner. Locally you’ll find a convenience store, café and gym. Walk a little further for a major supermarket, pubs and restaurants. Or jump in your car (there are four private parking spaces at your disposal, you don’t have to worry about parking) and you’re in the bustling heart of Reading town centre in just 10 minutes.

A historic gatehouse on the grounds of the Shaftesbury Estate in rural Dorset, this petite one-bed lodge has recently undergone a loving refurb by one of the estate owners, Lady Shaftesbury. She obviously has a great eye for design, as her palette of delicious apricot and duck egg blue stylishly updates this vintage cottage into not just a twenty-first-century home, but a home with charm and character. There are plenty of thoughtful touches we found exquisite, from soft dressing gowns to the complementary breakfast hamper – and everything, from Egyptian cotton bedding to the plush sofas, is of boutique hotel quality. The hosts are attentive, meticulously committed to making sure your every whim is met. All in all, this cosy country hideaway is perfect for city escapes, with nearby the great beaches of the Jurassic coast, the New Forest, the National Trust property of Kingston Lacey, cities like Salisbury or Portsmouth and traditional seaside in Bournemouth. And while it feels like one of a kind, a twin lodge and two maisonettes in a neighbouring cottage are also available, so you can bring your friends too (although you might want to keep this little secret to yourself).

Want to recreate a passionate escape à la Bridgerton - just on a much smaller scale? Then we think you'll fall in love with this home in a 400-year-old former gatehouse lodge. Part of the glorious 5,500-acre St Giles House estate, it's been personally and immaculately renovated by the estate's owner (real-life nobility Lady Shaftesbury) to stunning effect. The natural and historical character - original lead windows, log burner and dove grey stone slabs - pack a punch, but it's her Ladyship's keen eye for style that has elevated this home into a truly romantic stay. We're talking about bold splashes of colour (a vibrant coral in the living room and soothing forest green in the bedroom) plus beautiful illustrated artwork and the highest quality Egyptian cotton sheets. This rural location is the perfect place to hide away from the rest of the world, but if you tire of each other's company, the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, the New Forest and the classic British seaside resorts of Poole and Bournemouth are all within a short drive away.

A lot of time and thought has been put into converting the historic chapel that is now The Burrow. Nestled in a tranquil spot of countryside surrounded by rolling hills, the space feels authentically rustic but still comfortable and elegant.
