The garden backs onto fields and you're a short walk away from Bredon Hill (a popular cycling destination), while a great local pub is just a quick fifteen-minute bike ride away, or closer by car. The cottage itself is modern and thoughtfully decorated, with bright skylights, roomy bathrooms and yellow and blue walls that create a relaxing space. As the name the suggests, this beautifully converted home used to be a dairy, or to be more accurate, a former cheese press. Fully modernised with reclaimed timber floors and underfloor heating throughout, it's now a cosy and comfortable retreat. French doors lead from the sitting room to a flower-filled private garden where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sun go down. As an added bonus, you can pre-order delicious meals from your host during your stay. With plenty of walks and pubs close by, it’s the perfect base for exploring the unspoilt countryside – Bredon Hill and the Malvern Hills are especially lovely. A little further afield are the popular destinations of Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham, both under an hour’s drive away.

Or why not jump in the car and explore the Regency town of Cheltenham? It’s only a twenty-minute drive away. Set in the village of Laverton, this home promises a relaxing rural retreat. Ideal for a family, there’s plenty of space here with a charming garden and room to spread out across three floors, with whoever bags the bedroom stretching across the entire top floor able to enjoy the sweeping vistas. Sure, you have to climb a fairly steep staircase to reach the room and you’ll need to watch your head on the sloping ceilings, but we think it’s worth it for the sunsets over Bredon Hill alone.

After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.

We love the views of the steeple from the bedroom windows, while the shared garden boasts panoramas of the rolling countryside. There's a lot to like indoors, too. The cosy sitting area boasts a wood-burning stove and quintessential wooden beams. Consider yourself to be the chef of the group? You'll have everything you need to rustle up something tasty in the kitchen. When you're ready to venture out, you'll find Chipping Campden, Stratford-upon-Avon, Winchcombe, and other chocolate-box hamlets within a thirty-minute drive.

Set in the heart of Winchcombe, where walking trails will allow you to fully absorb the natural beauty of your surroundings, try the Sudeley Castle Circular for a more leisurely stroll before taking on any of the harder routes. Stop off at one of the stand-out restaurants for lunch and then return home to where understated comfort awaits.

The homeliness mostly comes down to the mix of old and new – find the exposed beams overhead, the brick walls and statement fireplaces, and then sweep your eyes over the glass conservatory and curated art, the furnishings and beautiful colour palette. The entire home has a rustic touch that makes it feel like an elegant farmhouse. 

Pick a spot and get cosy – whether that be in front of the wood-burning stove, in the bright conservatory, or outside where you can enjoy a book and cup of coffee on the manicured lawn.

The castle and gardens, which you'll have complimentary access to, will keep you busy. Or mosey into charming Winchcombe with it's local inn – just 200 metres from your door.

Only a mile from Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle, this pocket-sized hideaway is a perfect fit for two. We love how cosy and bright the living space is. Whether you're preparing breakfast in the mint green kitchenette, unwinding with a glass of wine on the comfy sofa or snuggling up in the sumptuous bed adorned with a William Morris duvet, you'll feel right at home here. And the views aren't too shabby, either. In the morning, savour a cup of tea and listen to the birdsong on the private patio, overlooking the tree-lined paddock. Evenings call for charcoal barbecues as the sun goes down, followed by glasses of wine under the stars. 

Ramblers will love this rural spot. Public footpaths lead through the rolling countryside towards the Cotswold Way and along the River Isbourne, and with pubs and restaurants in Winchcombe, you'll have everything you need just a stone's throw away. If it's the magic of the Cotswolds you're after, take an afternoon drive to Bourton-on-the-Water – it's twenty-five minutes away.

If you'd like a change from the picture-postcard villages, then the charming town of Cheltenham is just eight miles away, while the beautiful cities of Oxford and Bath are a little over an hour's drive.

It’s worth noting that the downstairs living space is compact and will feel particularly cosy if you have two dogs in tow. We love how the stone flooring and original features are softened by the floral decor,  antique rugs and old china filled cabinets that will have you feeling all warm and comfy from the get-go. It's a sociable open-plan living space with plenty of seating for the entire group. Bring the family together for a feast in the grand dining room with punchy-red walls and a lovely wooden table that's fit for any occasion. Through to the bedrooms, where the converted hayloft is the real highlight – this fantastic use of space means the children can bunk in together. If you can ever peel yourself away from this idyllic setting, the nearest town of Tewkesbury and its charming Abbey is less than a fifteen-minute drive away, while Cheltenham's Pittville Park (only 8 miles away) makes for a great group day out.

With The Cotswolds being one of only forty-six places awarded this coveted accolade, this lush countryside region certainly matches its description. But just as you thought it couldn’t get any more outstanding, how does staying on a castle estate sound? Just a twenty-one-minute drive from the bustling city of Cheltenham, this apartment offers a regal base to come home to after a day at the races.

While you could spend all day perusing Sudeley Castle and its ten gorgeous gardens (which you can do as much as you want, with free entry as a guest of the cottage), you’ve got history to discover closer to home. Your cottage is set in an old paper mill, where you can admire original timber beams and exposed stone walls throughout.

Within these cosy interiors, the lounge exudes a certain warmth that feels unique to rural England. Recline on a chequered chaise longue with a glass of champagne, or cook up Sunday roast to serve on the wooden dining bench. And make sure you put those fabulous sash windows to use – your river views offer the most calming Cotswolds scene.

The Canopy of the Forest

How’s a 15th-century castle that once housed King Charles I and Lady Jane Grey (to name a few) sound for a neighbour? It’s just footsteps away from this charming Cotswolds cottage –⁠ originally part of a paper mill on the vast estate. It’s worth noting there’s only one family bathroom here. And if we were being picky, the outside shared courtyard isn’t the most inspiring space. But with five award-winning gardens and a castle to explore (you’ll have complimentary access), we don’t think you’ll mind. After a little more bustle? The quintessential Cotswolds town of Winchcombe, with its traditional inns and tearooms, is an easy stroll away.

Tucked along a tree-lined lane on the outskirts of Winchcombe, this sweet cottage is as cosy as it looks. The red brick exterior exudes a simple country charm, but step inside and you'll be surprised by the sophisticated living space and contemporary comforts.

From the honey-coloured rug to the blue velvet sofa, pops of bold colour are everywhere you look. The roomy kitchen is a dream for home cooks – it's stocked with bakeware, crockery and everything else you'll need to rustle up family suppers to share around the dining table. Another surprise is the private sun-dappled terrace. It calls for barbecues and sundowners in the fresh air, while the shared pasture is perfect for dogs. But our favourite part is by far the decadent bathroom. End the day with a bubble-filled soak in the freestanding tub – a glass of wine in hand – or if you're not one for baths, the rainfall feature in the walk-in shower is just as lush.

Outside, Winchcombe's medieval charms and rolling countryside are begging to be explored. Don your comfiest shoes and set off towards Sudeley Castle or the Cotswold Way – there's a public footpath just off the lane that connects to it – followed by a pint and pub grub at the local taverns in the village. For a change of scenery, Cheltenham, Bourton-on-the-Water and many other chocolate-box Cotswolds villages are within driving distance.

And luckily for you, there’s free entry to the castle and award-winning gardens included in your stay. It’s worth noting that if four of you stay, the living space will feel a little snug. However, there’s a private courtyard overlooking the woodlands to spill out into for alfresco mealtimes. Don’t fancy cooking? Winchcombe’s charming inns and tearooms are just a stroll away.

Named in memory of King George III, this 18th-century forge may come with a lot of history, but it also has everything you could need for a cosy retreat. From the snug rooms and garden views to the shared terrace, it’s easy to settle in and make it your own. Children’s amenities can be arranged on request and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you for an additional fee. Plus, you can enjoy free admission to Sudeley Castle and Gardens during the open season. It’s also extremely well located, with the town of Winchcombe just five minutes away and hiking trails – including the Windrush Way – on your doorstep.

Located a stone's throw from the famous Fleece Inn, this delightful cottage is the definitive answer to that longing we get when driving past all those charming thatched roofs in the Cotswolds (though it's actually just over the border in Worcestershire). Your hosts have worked tirelessly to deliver interiors that feel both modern and historically charming at once – the greatest example of which being the upstairs bedrooms. Both are tucked under beams and eaves but still maintain an atmosphere of luxury through high-quality bedding and furniture. Start your day by tucking into breakfast in the bright conservatory before heading off to explore nearby villages – picturesque Chipping Campden is a twelve-minute drive away, while Bourton-on-the-Water is half an hour away. If cooking during your country break is not on the cards, the Fleece Inn is steps away and serves traditional English favourites, or you could arrange a private chef through your hosts. Then, at the end of a long day, return home to enjoy a quiet night in by the TV or watch the sun go down from the cushioned window seat.
