With vast arched glass windows, cool and contemporary spaces filled with natural light, original wooden beams everywhere, and an indoor pool so luxurious it belongs in a Bond villain's home, you'll want to spend your whole trip at this retreat. The lounge has sweeping views for when you want to relax with a film between glances at the stars, and the dining space is the perfect place to serve an elegant dinner spread or a lazy round of coffees. Explore the national reserve and its diverse landscape on your doorstep, and take a hike to Midsummer Hill - a walk or quick drive away. Bathe in luxury in either the huge shower or the sleek bathtub - the best way to wake up on a getaway.

Tucked away, off a country road close to Ledbury, this charming little home comes as quite a surprise. With its rural surroundings and nearby grazing sheep, its bold industrial styling is a real statement, with deep hues on the walls and lots of reclaimed wood. Vaulted ceilings, exposed brickwork and wooden beams add plenty of character but it's touches like the vintage radiators, scaffold pole headboard in the bedroom and the exposed copper pipework in the bathroom that make this place really sing. 

Somewhat upside-down in its layout, the main living space is on the top floor, with direct access to the pretty garden – a private sanctuary. Lounge on the leather sofa, cook in the stylish kitchen area or eat at the table in front of the patio doors. For extra snugness, there's a second lounge on the lower floor, complete with an electric fire for cosy film nights. And while we love the bedroom here, with its sumptuous mattress and faux fur throws, it's the bathroom that stole our hearts – its copper bathtub is a real showstopper.

From here it's a just four-minute drive to the pretty town of Ledbury, and keen walkers will be in their element with the Malvern Hills, the Cotswolds, the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean all within an hour's drive. If you're here during the autumn, you can ask for access to the neighbouring orchard, where you can help yourself to some seasonal fruit, and you can even treat yourself to a private yoga lesson – your host is an experienced instructor.

Hygge of Herefordshire

As the name the suggests, this beautifully converted home used to be a dairy, or to be more accurate, a former cheese press. Fully modernised with reclaimed timber floors and underfloor heating throughout, it's now a cosy and comfortable retreat. French doors lead from the sitting room to a flower-filled private garden where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sun go down. As an added bonus, you can pre-order delicious meals from your host during your stay. With plenty of walks and pubs close by, it’s the perfect base for exploring the unspoilt countryside – Bredon Hill and the Malvern Hills are especially lovely. A little further afield are the popular destinations of Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham, both under an hour’s drive away.

Retire to the charming reading nook in the burnt orange armchair at the top of the spiral staircase, one that adds even more character to this home. Take a five-minute stroll into the picturesque town of Bredon for a local pub lunch and a pint of beer on days when you don't feel like cooking. Dive into Worcester's legendary past, which is just under a half-hour journey away – visit Worcester Cathedral, considered one of England's most interesting cathedrals, especially architecturally. Before leaving, admire the River Severn. The Cotswolds are a must-see – if you enjoy hiking, take The Cotswold Way, a famous walk that boasts over 100 miles of scenic strolls and panoramic views of the countryside.

If you're looking for a boutique hotel-style destination with the privacy and comfort of a real home, look no further. The garden backs onto fields and you're a short walk away from Bredon Hill (a popular cycling destination), while a great local pub is just a quick fifteen-minute bike ride away, or closer by car. The cottage itself is modern and thoughtfully decorated, with bright skylights, roomy bathrooms and yellow and blue walls that create a relaxing space. After working up an appetite in the pool, gather around the wooden table for dinner before unwinding by the fire with a bottle of wine. We have just the ticket if you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a small family escape. This secluded Malvern Hills lodge (handcrafted by your host, Richard) is surrounded by rolling countryside. Relax in the wood-fired hot tub with a glass of local cider, or simply admire the panoramic hilltop views from the terraced gardens. The garden is on three levels with beautiful Cotswold dry stone retaining walls, hornbeam hedges and rose-planted borders. In the summer, picnic on the lawn or unwind in the oak-framed, covered swing seat. Then cook up a feast in the outdoor cooking area with its barbecue and wood pellet pizza oven.

Every detail has been carefully considered – even the furniture is individually crafted. Spend the evening snuggled up by the log burner, then get a good night’s sleep in the comfy bedrooms. We love the recycled wood panelling here. In the morning, wake up refreshed in this tranquil haven and see the light streaming through the bedroom’s roof light overhead.

After breakfast, go for a stroll in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or explore the Victorian spa town of Malvern. Other places of interest include Upton upon Severn, Ledbury and Tewkesbury. Alternatively, the Forest of Dean is only a half-hour drive away. Or for a pub lunch, the nearest pub is a 200-yard stroll through the fields.

This charming cottage, dating back to the early 1800s, is tailor-made for two. We love the traditional features in this home, with steep winding stairs and beautiful old beams – just mind your head as you explore all the nooks and crannies in this cottage. Outdoors, there’s a cosy decked area that invites you to relax with after-dinner aperitifs, and a hot tub to ease aching muscles after a day of exploring. Nestled next to the River Avon, locally you can enjoy dinner at the oldest pub in Tewkesbury, or visit museums, dog-friendly cafes and shops.

With a gothic spin, this stone-built cottage has become a Worcester favourite for a unique, romantic trip. Tiny but beautiful, it's bursting with period charm and features arched windows, exposed timbers, a statement fireplace and a luxurious clawfoot tub alongside quirky decorative touches. This grade II listed Georgian House in Ludlow is everything we look for in a quiet village getaway. Rebuilt and lived in by former glove makers from the late 1600s, this home is steeped in history, dating back to the Civil War – and doesn't it show. There are heaps of original features to these cosy digs. We especially love the handmade oak doors, wood beam ceilings and intricate fireplace that have been professionally restored by master craftsmen. While these period features add interest, the comfy living room is our favourite spot, with its realistic optimyst stove and large L-shaped sofa. Toast up those toes in front of the fire with a good book and a glass of wine in hand – you'll feel all warm and homely in no time at all. Step outside of this 17th-century building and explore one of the loveliest market towns in England that's positively brimming with listed buildings, medieval castles and striking churches. Take a short twelve-minute walk up Corve Street to the town centre and explore this historic place for yourself.

Converted from a hayloft in a Victorian stable block, original features like the wooden beams and porthole windows give the space a unique and rustic character. But you’ll still find plenty of modern comforts – the master bedroom features a walk-in dressing room, there's a charming Juliet balcony that opens the living room up to the treetops and there's a new log burner for staying cosy no matter the weather. Spend your days exploring the area – the city of Ludlow is only a short ten-minute drive away and boasts a castle and charming market, and there are plenty of hiking trails through the hills to add to the itinerary. When you arrive back home, run a bath fed from the local spring and put together a meal in the sociable kitchen. There's even a private cobbled courtyard to sit out in on warm evenings. If you're lucky, you'll catch sight of the swifts and swallows that nest in the area.

This home consists of two adjacent half-timbered properties situated in an idyllic rural holiday setting near Pembridge. The house is perfect for large groups of up to 15 guests, with ample space in the dining room when booked together with the cottage. The property features seven well-appointed bedrooms and four bathrooms, including a ground floor shower room. Guests can enjoy endless entertainment provided by the games room, luxury hot tub for six people, croquet, boules, Xbox One S, Bose SoundLink and a good selection of board games. There is also a tennis court available at the owner's house nearby. The property is pet-friendly, welcoming up to two well-behaved dogs (four with prior agreement from the owner) for a small additional charge. The location is ideal for exploring the picturesque "black and white" village of Pembridge as well as other nearby attractions such as Berrington Hall, Croft Castle and Dunkerton's Cider Mill.

With the flexibility to sleep up to 24 people, this magical country house is all set up for special events, gatherings of friends and family, activity holidays and more. With views across the Wye Valley, it's set on five acres of pristine land and has nine bedrooms for you to choose between – either in the beautifully restored and extended 17th-Century farmhouse or the stunning new guest annexe. 

Lovers of interior design will have a field day here. It's been impeccably put together by its owner Kari, a professional designer, with nods to traditional country chic, contemporary cool and even Antipodean modern rustic – Kari grew up in Australia. The main house having been extended, the old stable unit was transformed into an architect-designed annexe with a series of split-level suites that wouldn't look out of place in a boutique hotel in Shoreditch.

The huge, 40ft kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need to cook for your group, with an incredible four ovens, five hobs and two dishwashers, or you can take the hard work out of it by hiring a private chef. You'll have four main living spaces with enough room to get together as a large group or enjoy a bit of privacy, and there are all sorts of outdoor seating spots – including a fire pit area, dining terrace and an Aussie-style shack enjoying views across the valley.

Built for entertaining, you'll have a games barn where you can play table tennis, work out on the gym equipment and grab some garden games, as well as a room perfect for group activities. There's even a wood-fired hot tub, a children's natural play area and private fields for you to explore.

Just a few miles from the book town of Hay-on-Wye, it's easy to explore the Welsh border from here, and hiking, cycling and canoeing are all popular local attractions. And if you fancy an action-packed break, your host can put together a unique itinerary for your group. You're bound to make memories that last a lifetime.

But our favourite bit is the four-poster, king-size bed which guarantees a luxurious night’s sleep. just what you need after a day tackling some of the best hiking routes in the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds Way runs right by the cottage and walks around Sudeley Castle are just a few miles away.

After many years unoccupied, this former barn was treated to a complete revamp in the late 2010s. Today, a remarkable home awaits guests visiting rural Oxfordshire. Huge glass walls and stark white walls mean that the space feels immediately bright and inviting, while there's a superb mix of modern touches and more homely furnishings — bold pieces of artwork and the sleek grey kitchen sit quite happily alongside deep red rugs and picnic baskets repurposed as coffee tables.

Out through the glass doors, there's a charming walled garden complete with a lawn, patio and neat plant beds. Bat boxes and an owl loft have also been incorporated into the property to help the local wildlife. If you fancy a little more nature-spotting, there are plenty of walking routes throughout the surrounding Blenheim Estate. The city of Oxford takes around twenty-five minutes to reach in the car, too.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.


The Cotswold Cedar

Rolling countryside as far as the eye can see and quaint villages tucked into the valleys of Monmouthshire on your doorstep – this converted stone barn is an idyllic getaway. It’s a six-minute drive to the centre of Raglan where you can explore castle ruins, pop in to one of the cosy pubs or stock up at the traditional butcher and the local village shop. Further afield you’ll find the charming market town of Monmouth a fifteen-minute drive away. The home is blissfully quiet, with nothing but the occasional bleat of sheep or whinny of a horse in the surrounding fields. Out here, away from it all, you can see the canopy of stars from the private garden. During the day, this spot is perfect for a family barbecue, with dining on the patio. Inside, it’s open-plan living made cosy with a wood-burning stove set in the old stone wall of the living room. Period features like the old timber frame and arrow-slit windows have been retained, showing off the age of the building. The Aga and Belfast sink in the kitchen keep that farmhouse feel, perfect when paired with farm-fresh produce from the hole-in-the-wall farm shop just down the road.
