In a former life, this cottage was home to railway workers back in the early 1900s. Since then, it's had a complete transformation into a romantic hideaway, while still retaining much of its traditional charm. The kitchen echoes this home's industrial past, with polished concrete worktops and burr elm shelving giving it a historic feel, while the Edwardian table is a fantastic place to gather and share a homemade meal. Outside, you'll find a private garden and wooden deck, where you can fire up the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco feast as you gaze over the Insh Marshes across to the incredible landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park. Don't forget your binoculars, because you also have a great view of both the nearby RSPB bird reserve and the train line – both birdwatchers and trainspotters will be delighted. There are several paths of varying difficulty close by, meaning that whether you want an invigorating hike or a gentle stroll, there's a trail to suit you. Explore the wild landscapes from rivers to moors, mountains to lochs, before returning to the welcoming glow of the wood-burning stove, and perhaps a wee dram of whisky. 

Cairngorm Charm

Escape to the Scottish Highlands and experience the beauty of nature at this modern cottage. With underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove, there’s no better place to hunker down than the living area. But when the weather’s fair, we recommend taking advantage of the decking area and garden that stretches down to the River Slatach. You’ll even be able to spot the famous Jacobite steam train passing nearby. While your host provides essentials like tea, coffee and sugar, if you need to stock up on other provisions, Fort William is the closest town, a thirty-minute drive away.

Highland Harmony

Set in a historic Edwardian castle estate stretching across 2000 acres of glen walks, forests, beaches, lochs, gardens and waterfalls, this bonnie cottage is poised to provide you with an endlessly romantic, back-to-nature stay. Located in the heart of picturesque Portpatrick – one of Scotland's prettiest seaside towns – you'll have the long beaches and tidal rushes of Dunskey Glen a short stroll from your cosy home base. We love the bohemian aesthetic and eclectic interiors, especially the rose petal wallpapers that give an air of stately grandeur from the get-go. Dreamy chandeliers and plant-themed prints fill the spaces with a homely touch, while the pink velvet sofa and grand upholstered bed make a striking impression with spades of glossy glamour. After a day exploring, curl up in front of the wood-burning stove with a good book and a tipple of whisky. On warmer nights, step out onto a private courtyard boasting an outdoor bathtub nestled among shrubs and flowing vine – this is an ideal spot to relax while admiring your woodland surroundings. Outside of your home, Dunskey Golf Course and the Portpatrick Harbour are two minutes away (on foot), while the Dunksey Castle is a twenty-minute walk up the craggy Scottish coastline. 

Highland Heather

Set on the banks of the Kyles of Bute, this home offers a peaceful retreat on Scotland’s wild west coast. Most rooms frame sweeping sea views, while an open fireplace adds a cosy touch for evenings in. Outside, a large dining table on the patio sets the scene for family feasts or special occasions. Stroll into the charming village of Tighnabruaich, or take a scenic thirty-minute drive to explore the stunning landscapes of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

The Highland Harbor

Nestled in Kingussie within the Cairngorms National Park, this charming home is perfect for large group getaways in the Scottish Highlands. Set across three floors, there’s plenty of space to spread out here and enjoy some quiet time with a good book. But for us, what really caught our eye is the location. Entertainment abounds in the local area – visit the Highland Folk Museum for an insight into local history, peruse the art on display at the Iona Gallery, take a whiskey distillery tour at nearby Dalwhinnie, or visit the Highland Wildlife Park, unbridled fun for all the family. However you spend your days, memorable moments are guaranteed. 

Highland Welcome

Offering stunning sea views across Loch Ryan near Kirkcolm in southwest Scotland, this garden cottage is the perfect country and coastal retreat to get away from it all and immerse yourself in beautiful, pristine nature. The home is part of the 18th-century Corsewall Estate surrounded by twenty acres of woodland and gardens – all for you to enjoy. From snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells in the winter and spring to a riot of colourful rhododendrons and azaleas in summer, you’ll be instantly struck by the vibrancy of your locale with countless walking and cycling routes around them to explore. Inside your home, a picturesque living room is arranged around a wood-burning fireplace, ideal for curling up with a glass of wine and some board games. The sunny kitchen, meanwhile, is all set to get mornings off to a hearty start over breakfast or afternoons snacks courtesy of the homemade brownies, milk, bread, jam, butter, tea and coffee provided. We love the country bedrooms with their floral touches and large windows proffering views across the gardens and towards the Loch, while the en-suite tubs invite long, luxurious baths after a day in the great outdoors. With a private garden equipped with a barbecue and croquet set, you can spend lazy afternoons having fun in the sun, or head to the nearby woods where a campfire beckons ghost stories over toasted marshmallows under a blanket of stars – your host even provides a tent and roll mats should you wish to snooze amidst the trees (all you need is your sleeping bag).  Factor in the estate’s dedicated play areas that offer a zip-wire, a climbing frame, swings, and a trampoline and there’s more than enough fun for the whole family. Boat Bank Beach is also a short walk down the estate’s drive and Lady Bay – a shell collector’s dream – is a ten-minute drive away.  Further afield, the charming fishing village of Portpatrick is also only twenty minutes away by car. 

Gaelic Stone

Tucked away in a quiet position surrounded by fields and nature, this holiday home is a charming escape in Scotland. It’s close to Loch Ness, a short drive from Fort Augustus, in an excellent spot for hiking, mountain biking, and enjoying the Great Outdoors. The modern cottage has a large garden that boasts panoramic views of the countryside, perfect for a picnic lunch or a sundowner after a long walk. Inside, you’ll find a comfortable home-from-home with an attractive open-plan living and dining space at its heart. You’ll have everything you need here. 

Highland Mist

What could be better than spotting red squirrels, lapwings, house martins and geese in your private garden? Well, spotting them from the bubbling warmth of a hot tub for one. This 18th century home sits in glorious Perthshire countryside in the hamlet of Monzie. It’s a seven-minute drive to the nearest shops, pubs and coffee shops in idyllic Crieff. The surrounding countryside is home to winding walks (some from your doorstep) where you can spot deer and red kites, cycling trails, fishing and golfing. Though you may just want to stay in your secluded country paradise, playing croquet on the lawn, soaking in the hot tub or enjoying a barbecue in the sun. Inside, you’ll find several spots for the group to spread out – curled up with a book in the sunny conservatory, perched by the crackling fire in the main lounge, playing table football in the games room or perhaps even tinkling a tune on the upright piano in the dining room. The kitchen is the heart of the home, where a four-door Aga purrs with endless warmth. Homely touches like kids’ drawings framed on the wall and a selection of books and board games elevate this spot beyond your average holiday home. 

Lapwings & Deer

Juxtaposing the old with the new, the rustic with the elegant and medieval with romantic – this 16th Century castle is a magical force to be reckoned with. Perched in a quaint Scottish village amidst the ancient landscape of Kilmartin Glen and 8,000 years of history – you'll be located off the beaten track and in one of Europe's most archaeological areas when staying here.  From ancient forts, burial tombs, rock carvings and standing stone – unspoiled Scotland awaits your discovery. With its restoration complete in 2019, the castle itself retains tons of original character, alongside modern home comforts and stylish designs throughout. Each of the five guest suites features its own ensuite bathroom, underfloor heating, walk-in wet rooms, luxury bedding and there are three delightful bathtubs to fight over. Around the castle, you'll find plenty of nooks, window seats and comfy corners to cosy up in with a hot drink in hand. At the heart of the home, the grand hall provides the perfect place to gather around the fire in the evenings. We love the quirky designs here – from the artwork to the antique furniture pieces the castle is brimming with elegance and personality. Over in the dining room, enjoy a delicious locally sourced home-cooked meal under the original stone barrel-vaulted ceiling for a truly majestic experience. Beyond the castle walls, the extensive gardens include a large outdoor dining table alongside a barbecue, pizza oven and a fire pit for alfresco dining. You'll find everything you need in the outdoor kitchen – it's fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, cool boxes and hot running water. There's even a wild swimming pond for those brave enough to take a dip in nature, and an outdoor bathroom with a wood burner. Set off on blissful walks to discover what the hosts call "an outdoor museum" as Kilmartin Glen has the largest number of historical finds within a six-mile radius. Whether you're into paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, photography, distillery tours, eating out or even island hopping – the village of Kilmartin Village, just a three-minute walk away quite simply has it all. 

Castle Gold

Sitting on the southwest coast of Scotland, this home provides the perfect escape for families and friends. Think squashy sofas, a cosy cottage-like kitchen and a crackling fireplace to unwind with a wee dram at the end of the day. The woods immediately beside the lawns close to Corsewall House and just a few minutes’ walk from the cottage are a dedicated children’s fun zone. The private garden provides a lush playground for children (and adults) complete with an 18-metre zip wire, a climbing frame, a slide as well as three swings. It is the perfect spot for parents to relax with a spread of local foods and perhaps a drop or two to drink while the kids play – picnic anyone? And if that wasn't enough, the kids can also bounce their hearts out on the 14-foot trampoline by the edge of the lawns. There's even a campfire area in the woods for toasting marshmallows. Beyond the site, the local area also offers plenty to keep the whole crowd busy, from sprawling coastlines and colourful fishing towns to aristocratic homes – your most difficult decision will be choosing where to visit first. 

Forest's Edge

Situated on a working farm and sporting estate in Perthshire, this refurbished Victorian home is a great option for larger groups wanting to explore the Big Tree Country. Due to its elevated position, you'll get stunning panoramic views across Aberfeldy, Ben Lawers, and the surrounding hills. There's a cinema and games room to enjoy here, as well as a private hot tub to soak in as the sun goes down. The large fenced garden has plenty of outdoor seating, as well as BBQ facilities for alfresco dining in the warmer months – and a fire pit for cooler evenings. We suggest hiring a car so you can discover the dramatic landscape of this county with ease.
