It boasts Edinburgh Castle views from the entrance and a private outdoor space, complete with a gas fireplace and sofas. It's the perfect place for pre-theatre drinks or a wee dram at the end of the night. You may even be lucky enough to see one of the fireworks displays light up the sky around the castle.

Inside, it's been freshly renovated by one of Scotland's leading interior designers. A lot of attention to detail has been lavished on this home. We adore the custom wallpaper, designer accessories, plush velvet seating and drapes, as well as the contemporary artworks by Scottish and New York artists. All in all, this creates a sumptuous, five-star boutique suite feel. There’s even a secret extra outdoor room furnished with tartan throws and puffin cushions – the ideal spot for reading a book.

The location is as impressive as this apartment. It's a three-minute stroll to both Princes Street and the Lyceum Theatre, while Usher Hall, which has hosted concerts and events since 1914, is a mere one-minute saunter. No trip to the city would be complete without visiting Edinburgh Castle – it's around ten minutes on foot.

There’s plenty to see and do closer to home too, with the Saughton Rose Gardens a seven-minute walk away, and the Water of Leith eight minutes away on foot. Sports fans will enjoy the proximity to Tynecastle – home of the Hearts – and easy access to Murrayfield.

With this Buckstone cottage, you get the best of both worlds. Edinburgh city centre and all its landmarks are only a twenty-minute drive away, but you'll have excellent walks, the Seven Hills viewpoint, and leafy parks practically on your doorstep. Better still, a private front garden here will surely be a hit when the sun is out. It's the perfect spot to wind down in the evenings, though the light-filled living area is also a fine place to relax. The bedrooms are a little snug, but we think it does the job for a laid-back stay on the outskirts of the city.

Inside, the palette of greys, blacks and dark wood give the interior the sort of character and warmth you envision from a home in the Scottish capital. Two large sash windows in the living space invite in natural light and there are several lavish touches in the interior design, from the ornate furnishings and the patterned wallpaper to the subway tile bathroom. We’d normally start with the fantastic West End location, but let’s talk about this luxurious apartment first. There’s a stylish open-plan living space with a modern fireplace – the perfect place to relax after a busy day. The main highlight, though, is the opulent bathroom which provides a spa-like oasis with a Jacuzzi and walk-in shower. This home also has a front patio – ideal for a bit of fresh air. Now, what about the prestigious address? Well, many of the city's most iconic landmarks are within walking distance, such as Deans Village, Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, Princes Street, and more.

Scottish Opulence

Sitting within one of Edinburgh's many Georgian buildings, this loft apartment doesn't have the period features you might expect from the handsome exterior, but it's still easy on the eye nevertheless. Ideally, it could do with another bathroom, but that's nitpicking really. One thing we especially like is that the neighbourhood is a little more residential than the touristy centre, but you're still within walking distance of many of the city's attractions – the castle and old town are both around half an hour's walk, for instance.

Though we doubt you'll need it with so much waiting on your doorstep. 

Get off to a flying start at the National Museum just across the street, famed for its natural history wonders. Then walk in the footsteps of Scotland's ancient kings and queens at Edinburgh Castle (six minutes on foot). 

And when it's time to escape the crowds for a while, head to Edinburgh's volcano, Arthur's Seat (forty minutes on foot), for the very best views over the city – it's worth the hike.
