Moments away, you'll find whisky bars serving over 200 different drams, fully kilted pipers, and – in August, anyway – the magical chaos of the Edinburgh Festival. This apartment offers brief respite from all that, kitted out with a flat-screen TV for binge-watching, a generous kitchen corner for preparing tipsy laird pudding and a squishy red leather sofa to eat it on. Downstairs is the famous World's End pub – grab a pint and people-watch for a while. 

Timorous Beastie

Offering a simple, fuss-free interior with a compact but well-equipped kitchen for when you fancy a home-cooked meal, this fourth-floor apartment in Edinburgh really caught our eye because of its fantastic location. Step out of the building straight onto the Royal Mile in the capital’s historic Old Town, a short stroll from Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. If your trip is centred around some Scottish sightseeing, this home drops you in the heart of the action – fans of the Edinburgh Fringe, it’s perfectly placed for you, too. 

Old Town Heart

With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Gothic grandeur of St Giles’ Cathedral, this apartment is instantly impressive. We love the scenery, and we also love the location – walking distance from many of the most popular sights, and right in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. When you’re not sightseeing, souvenir shopping, or sampling local culture in a traditional pub, this one-bedroom apartment is a cosy and comfortable place to recharge your batteries. It has everything you need to feel right at home, plus that extra-special view, which might just be one of the best in the city.

 Thistle & Tartan

Situated a minute’s walk from the frenetic Royal Mile, this cosy apartment with neutral colour scheme and homespun furnishings is a welcome respite set back from the hubbub. Relax in the living space with a good book and glass of scotch or try your hand at cooking up Scottish culinary classics in the fully-equipped kitchens. On warm summer days, open the windows wide for a gentle breeze and the sound of bagpipes to drift through your abode. When you’re ready to take the city by storm, we recommend beginning with a history lesson at the iconic Edinburgh Castle, atop an extinct volcano, just a ten-minute walk away. Should you start to feel peckish, the countless indie cafes, restaurants and bars in the Old Town will see you right. And if you’re in the mood for a spot of shopping, Princes Street is chockfull of big-name stores.

Let The Bagpipes Play

Perfectly placed in Edinburgh’s New Town, this no-fuss apartment has the city’s best bits within easy reach. Poring over the works in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, just a ten-minute walk from your doorstep is an excellent way to start a morning. And when it’s time for elevenses, there’s a selection of trendy coffee houses on the other side of Queen Street Gardens. Shop along the famous Princes Street or take the twenty-minute amble up to the mighty Edinburgh Castle for a tour of the Great Hall and St Margaret’s Chapel. At the end of your jam-packed day, retreat to your homespun apartment for a relaxing evening with your loved ones. Get snug in the cosy living space as the appointed chef of your group whips up something tasty in the well-equipped kitchen. After an evening of swapping anecdotes over dinner and drinks, sink into the comfortable beds and drift off into a deep sleep.

Ginger Cake

Tucked away down a quiet mews street in Stockbridge, this architecturally unique converted coach house is the perfect place to begin your getaway in the Scottish capital.  It's a peaceful spot that's still within walking distance of the city centre – we think you'll fall in love with Edinburgh's rugged charm in no time at all. 

From the flagstone floors in the kitchen to the original stove in the bedroom, this home is bursting with traditional details to admire. However, there are also plenty of modern comforts – you'll love cooking up your favourite dishes in the well-equipped kitchen using fresh local ingredients. And, when it's time to relax, you can take a soak in the bath before slipping into the crisp white sheets. 

You'll also have access to private river gardens nearby at the end of the mews lane, where you can relax on sunny days or wander down the river into bustling Stockbridge. Beautiful Dean Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an unspoilt pocket of the city with ancient buildings and cobbled streets, just a ten-minute walk away. And, a twenty-five-minute walk will bring you through the New Town to the iconic castle and the Royal Mile. 

Artist's Muse

Just a few steps from Princes Street, the location of this Edinburgh apartment is spot-on. You'll be walking distance from a bevvy of restaurants and not far from landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Its central location makes noise likely, especially since floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the street. That aside, it's a cosy place to come home to after sightseeing. The leather sofa is a great spot to curl up with a scotch, while the desk and high-speed wi-fi are ideal if you're in town on business. Keep in mind that the first floor is only accessible by stairs and free parking isn't provided – not dealbreakers though if you're keen to be in the heart of the city.

Leather & Sterling

This home offers a contemporary sanctuary on the iconic Royal Mile. Inside, the layout has been thoughtfully curated for families and groups in search of a fresh city base. There’s plenty of space to socialise, unwind or catch up on work. Your host can help organise extras like cleaning and airport transfers. And while there is no private parking available, you will find everything you could need within walking distance. Outside, it’s just a short stroll to Edinburgh Castle, Calton Hill and Holyrood Park. 


Forever Fresh 

Just over a twenty-minute walk from the heart and soul of the Old Town – Edinburgh Castle – the New Town has quite a different vibe. You’ll find Georgian architecture nearly everywhere you turn, and historic tenement buildings lining the streets as you head towards Canonmills. While these stone structures might look similar from the outside, we can guarantee you'll find eclectic homes within. This flat is no exception. The owner is a local artist, whose creative interior design choices are evident throughout. You’ll find her charming, abstract artwork on display in various rooms, as well as brightly-coloured walls, quirky tablecloth prints, antique furniture, and unique lamps on ornate cabinets. Our favourite spot has to be the lounge – this yellow room is full of character and old-world charm. Light up the fire and gather everyone round for a board game on a rainy day in this sumptuous space. Or at dusk, it could equally serve as a plush pad for an impromptu whisky-tasting session. While you sip on single malts, have the host arrange for a private chef to come over and handle dinner. You are on holiday after all.

An Seòmar Buidhe

Just minutes from Princes Street and historic landmarks, this apartment in Edinburgh’s West End is a haven of maximalism. Set in a grand Victorian townhouse, it features stunning period details, skilfully mixed with bold colours and prints – and yes, an impressive collection of curated antiques. Truly, it's a delight for any fan of interior design, but if you're just staying for the location, then that alone makes it well worth it. Museums, galleries, restaurants, and shops are just a stroll away, so you'll be able to soak up everything Edinburgh has to offer. Additional guests can also be arranged with the host – they'll sleep on a sofa bed in the main bedroom.

Edinburgh Maximalism

Ideally located just a one-minute walk from Edinburgh’s Haymarket train station, this beautiful Georgian apartment in the city’s West End district is an ideal base for a comfortable, relaxing stay. Elegantly curated in its decor, the living room is a plush affair with its corniced ceilings, parquet floors, large windows and inviting sofas. The kitchen, meanwhile, is lovely and luminous with a stunning Scandi table ready to host hearty breakfasts while feasting on fourth-floor views and intimate dinners while you watch the city’s lights twinkle. Both bedrooms are pared-back and equally sophisticated, providing a cosy canvas for a dreamy night’s sleep. With a separate office room on hand as well, you’ll have no trouble catching up on work from your stylish home base. Outside of your home, you’re a twenty-minute walk from both Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street’s shops and a fifteen-minute stroll from bucolic Dean Village. 


The Haymarket

The Royal Mile stretches from the hilly city centre, right down to the even larger hills of the Crags and Arthur’s Seat (Edinburgh’s very own extinct volcano). And just six minutes from the edge of this ancient parkland, this modern home is a rather delightful contrast. The interiors are very industrial, but you’ll still find little touches of luxury. We love the lighting fixtures in the lounge and bedrooms, a web of black cords and hanging bulbs which cast a soft glow. Matching this are black metal frames on the door, shower, and bed, as well as dining chairs in the living space. Overall, this flat has a warehouse vibe which feels minimalist yet cosy, ideal for coming home to after witnessing a city steeped in history. Wander uphill after your morning coffee and stop in for some brunch on the High Street, just seven minutes away. Keep on heading to the top of this iconic mile to reach Edinburgh Castle. At just a thirteen-minute walk from home, your descent should include a stop at a traditional pub for a dram of whisky or a pint.
